i have heard the name uruka, from some of my friends, and i thought it would be like some assamese thali ,servedby other assamese restaurants. but when i went there, i was shocked. i mean the reception, then the quality of food and most importantly type of food was awsome. i especially liked the fish, vedailota curry, liver fry. and finally the desert was awsome. i felt the price was quite low, according to the standards of the food. i personally feel, every assamese should once try this.

location:(5/5) situated in the heart of guwahati city, uruka is easily located as it is in right beside the main road of silpukhuri. there is place for car parking.

ambience:(5/5) beautiful and spacious interiors with large accomodating capacity inspired by assamese culture and traditions.

food:(3/5) this placeservedbuffet of assamese food. the welcome drink is thekera tenga sherbet which i loved. in starters there are food items like local fish fry, chicken pakora, paneer pakora (loved this), prawn pakora, veg pakora, fresh corn salad with 3 different ethnic chutneys. there is endless supply of starters. the mains had 3 sections. first is the condiments which had various chutneys and achaars and salads. second part consisted of 2 dals, all the bhaajis, torkaris, pitika, xaak(greens), fried rice with fish innards, khaar. and the last part contained the proteins local fish with mustard, chicken curry, dalir bor tenga, and chicken with koldil. dessert consisted of all things made of jaggery curd with jaggery, jaggery coated khurma and sooji halwa. although i liked all the food items, my favourite was dalir bor tenga and chicken with koldil. and i also feel they could improve their flavour profile a bit. as an assamese myself i am very critical in this matter.

service:(5/5) the best part is their service and hospitality. one of the few eateries in assam which is entirely operated andservedby women. all the women are clad in beautiful assamese attire. there are also 2 assamese woman robot serving food. very cool. everyone was constantly asking whether we wanted anything more or less even though it was peak lunch time and the place was almost full.

value for money: (4/5) per person rate was almost rs. 500 which i am willing to pay for such a relaxing and feel good lunch. so value for money is really high.

absolutely the best concept with best ethnic assamese food. be it the different chutneys to curries, all tastes like home food. guys you can have a pretty good time with your family and friends in this restaurant. and i really want to point out about the owner(including his family members) who is so down to earth and took really good care of us. also shout out to all the ladies whoservedus. their outfits, attitude everything was so nice. p.s: they only provide buffet system and no à la carte and it's pretty good. buffet price : 490(including tax)

also the main attraction is obviously "palki" the human robot who will serve you the welcome drinks!

my experience in uruka was not extraordinary. i felt it to be a bit overpriced for the number of items and the quality of food they serve.

the starters were a let down. we opted for the non-vegetarian buffet. firstly we got a sour welcome drink. then the starters came pouring in. they gave us a street style american sweet corn, veg pakoda, paneer pakoda, chicken padoka and fried fish. the paneer pakoda was really tasty. the chicken pakoda was like the street pakodas you get these days. i felt that the number of starters were really less.

the main course was a let down. they had all sorts of typical assamese chutneys, curries but they lacked that flavour. and there was only chicken and fish curry available. no mutton or any other protein. i only loved the kosu jool and the pumpkin fritter in main course.

the desserts were yummy however. theyservedcut watermelon slices, curd with jaggery, sooji halwa and coconut balls. i loved them.

the service was a highlight. the staff comprised of only women in traditional mekhela sador and they constantly were asking us for refills and stuff. i really hope they can improve their taste and the quality. otherwise it's a very nice concept.

if you want great service with good ambience for family/friends get together, this is the place to be. but sadly, the food quality didn't measure up. so much that some of my guests had upset stomach the next day. i was happy to celebrate my marriage anniversary the first time but unfortunately the food didn't even meet my expectations of good assamese food. even though the menu mentioned lot of items, they onlyservedonly a few items in the buffet.

to the management of uruka, please reconsider the menu if you are going to serve assamese cuisine. we don't mind simple food if the taste is great. but brinjal with chicken parts is a bad idea. so is bhedailata maach with old fish that smelled. sad that you ruined an assamese delicacy.

wish your food menu was as great as the service that you delivered. hopefully you take this as constructive criticism and bounce back.

this is a place that has commendably coupled innovation with tradition. it provides an assamese buffet spread at a reasonable price. starting from the appetizers which include fried chickpeas, corn, paneer, (small local) fish fry, chicken to the main course, the essence of assamese cuisine has been vividly projected. the saucesservedwith the appetizers are not of the generic kinds and will leave you asking for more. the flavours of some of the dishes however have scope to be improved upon. one of my personal favourites was the bhedailotar maasor jul which was cooked to perfection. the crockery, including the glasses, is of kaah (brownie points).
we had gone there on a sunday. the hosts and their family were present. they were extremely polite and hospitality was top notch, starting from the moment we entered to the time when we left. they were personally attentive to the customers and offered various options (including a couple of off-the-menu choices) to a customer who was particularly choosy about her food. the staff is extremely well behaved and service is quick. however, they had to be occasionally directed to tables.
the restaurant is spacious and there is enough room to move about without congestion. parking may however be a problem during busy hours.

visiting uruka was a pleasant experience. i have rated the restaurant with four stars. however i believe it would be more helpful to the potential visitor and the management, if i provide an area wise breakup of the score. the rating would be based on an overall scale of 5.

innovation (4.5/5)
the restaurant has been genuinely innovative in terms of using many elements of western fine dining traditions and applying it to assamese restaurant industry. this incorporation is visible in the attire of its staff, the dessert tier stand, an assamese buffet. infact this is perhaps the first assamese restaurant to have a live grill on the table.

service(4.5/5)
a word in praise has to be said for the high levels of courtesy with which every customer is taken care of. the lady, probably the manager, was extremely courteous so were the rest of the waitresses and the waiters.

food(3/5)
the menu spread in the main course was satisfactory. but the spread of appetisers was under satisfactory. the chicken that wasservedwas batter fried and the style was more western than assamese. the prawn cutlet had less meat and more of the binding agent. in terms of the main course, as indicated the variety of choice is justified although there is great scope for improvement in terms of taste. the dessert section items among others included ‘suji ka halwa’ and ‘gur payokh’ which are not a part of standard assamese culinary traditions.

uruka is a relatively new restaurant which specialises in typical assamese cusine. i must admit the service, cleanliness and hospitality of this place is one of the very best in the city.
review
food-(4/5) they serve buffet lunch and dinner @₹490 (all inclusive) and they have some snacks and other items in the evening hours.
uruka serves essentially assamese cusine...home styled food items. buffet comprised of unlimited small fish fry, chicken pokora, prawns pokora, corn salad as starters.
main course comprises of a variety of chutneys and pickles, salad, chicken curry, fish curry, a variety of dal, and vegetables.
people who likes oily and very spicy items might find the food little bland...but overall food is quite good and fresh.
ambience-(4.5/5) the place is quite spacious and well decorated. the place is super clean and well lighted. i liked the ambience, however they could have placed few more comfortable seats. car parking in that area is a big issue.
service-(5/5) simply awesome service....i loved the way food wasservedand the way staffs greeted us.
i must admit the service is 5star in this place.

overall, this place is a good place to visit when you are really hungry for unlimited home styled foods with family and friends.

trip to 'uruka' was much awaited as i had heard about the outlet from many people including my mom. so this time, on my brief visit to guwahati i decided to try out the place.

the entrance to the restaurant was really nice with motion sensor doors , followed by a warm greeting from the staff which is 90 % female. these are two unique things which you don't generally come across a restaurant and that too in guwahati. we had the privilege of the meeting the owner miss priyanka who was very warm and curteos throughout the whole evening.

the ambience of the restaurant was a mix of modern and ethnic, with the concept of a live grill on the table and a buffet spread. the concept too was a unique one in terms of traditional assamese restaurants. the cutlery was of kaanh in assamese i.e. bell metal and was well polished.

coming to the food for starters they had mixed sweet corn , prawn cutlet, deep fried paneer tikka , deep fried chicken tikka , small fish fry. the fish and the chicken wereservedon the live grill and the rest wereservednormally. also these wereservedwith one mustard chutney and pudina chutney.

for the main course they had plain rice, yellow dal, mix veg , baingan bharta, fried brinjal, small potato fry, matar paneer, black dal, chicken curry with potatoes, fish in bhedailota saag. there were various other condiments like dry fish cutney, salad, mahor guri, bambooshoot pickled in bhootjolokia oil etc

overall i would say it's a decent place i.e. above average. the concept is good but a lot can be worked on in terms of food. an alacarte should be introduced with other variants of assamese food items as not everyone would prefer a buffet always. also in buffet we could have few more variety in terms of starters and specially in veg. also the pricing should vary i.e. for veg and non veg accordingly, people would prefer that.

all and all it's a good start and i would wish team uruka all the very best for their journey in the food sector. looking forward to new changes as well.

cheers !!
