i recently attended a foodie meetup at toni's, and what en experience! we were welcomed with delicious margaritas, not too strong, not too tart, just the way i like it!
toni "managed" our table herself, entertaining, recommending, describing her delectable dishes as they arrived. she created a unique experience for us, but it seems she does that every night for her guests.

her regulars she greets with a hug, creating a family atmosphere in her restaurant. she even makes all the desserts for all her restaurants herself! her own special touch can be found everywhere, in all her dishes.

back to the food... we were treated to salads and focaccia as starters. the salads were amazing! so tasty, each ingredient complementing the others perfectly! not just a bunch of lettuce and a few toppings either! you can taste the quality of the ingredients used! my favourite focaccia was the caramelised onions and blue cheese! yum!

on to the pizzas, you can create a half and half so you get to taste more than one pizza.greatidea to order a few half and half pizzas and share amongst the table, there is such a variety to choose from. something to suit everyone's taste buds and preferences! they have yum pastas on the menu too!

to end off, we had the most decadent desserts! chocolate pizzas, homemade nougat, brownies and ice cream, all very tasty, and then the chocolate mouse... this deserves a special mention, as dreams are made of this choc mousse! it was unlike any other mousse i have ever tasted! so thick and creamy, you just have to taste the mousse!
i am told that there are dessert milkshakes too, including adult ones which have a bit of a kick.

thank you to toni, the experience and food were amazing! we enjoyed every minute we were there! from your great, personal hosting to the food you create! an amazing experience we will surely be back for again soon!

pretoria is known for being the hub of continental food. pretoria has many hidden secrets and the other night i was exposed to a very different take on pizzas. a rustic, warmly lit restaurant like toni’s, i was very pleasantly surprised. so for those who want a different take on the traditional pizza, toni’s is the place for you.
this small restaurant had a very warm european evening feel to it, the simple décor allowed the food to be the centre of attention. the restaurant customers and waiters buzzed with energy and excitement. we were fortunate enough to meet the owner toni who was as amazing as her food.
we started with an insalta con pollo (chicken salad) and a house salad. the first salad consisted of chicken, cherry tomatoes, olives, feta, lettuce, toasted almonds, onion, and peppadew pesto. both salads were very delicious the flavours worked together very well and the different textures complimented each other.
for the main course we had the option of 14 different pizzas. all of them equally as exquisite in taste and colour as the next. but of all the pizzas that i tasted the ones that i enjoyed most were the insalata (garlic, chilli, avocado, rocket, grana padano, toasted pine buts, olive oil), the cipolle (with a tomatoe base, mozzarella, caramelised onion, brie, toasted almonds), the oxtail pizza, and the pollo pizza (with a tomatoes base, mozzarella, tandoori, chicken, feta, olives and garlic). the insalta was a different take on the traditional pizza because it did not have the traditional tomatoes base and it had a crunchy base and smooth avocado with a bite of chilli, you wont go wrong with this choice. the cipolle, one of my favourites was very interesting to me because of the savoury crunch of the almonds which complimented the sweet caramelised onions. the oxtail pizza was very tasty as well, the meat cooked to perfection and not too tough and just the right amount of seasoning. lastly the pollo pizza, which was not just pleasing to the eye but untee will definitely be to your pallet. all the dishes were executed in a very different way making it a feast for the eyes and the stomach. the large sizes were very big and the pizzas very filling, prices varied but this place has so much to choose from you wont go wrong if you decide to eat here.
the desserts were equally as impressive. we were served a chocolate mouse, a home-made nougat, a chocolate brownie with ice cream, and a hazelnut and chocolate marshmallow pizza and lastly to top it all of a cookie monster milkshake. if you have a sweet tooth like me toni’s will definitely satisfy it. the chocolate mouse was very thick but the rich taste of dark chocolate was soothing. the chocolate brownie was the perfect consistency between chewy in the middle and crunchy on the outside and the ice cream complimented it. the nougat was also very sticky and sweet drizzled with honey and was packed with thinly sliced and toasted almonds, which was delicioso! the cookie monster was an oreo milkshake and it definitely exceeds its name with an oreo in the middle of the shake. but the real star of the dessert show was the chocolate hazelnut marshmallow pizza, which was simply divine. i could have easily sat there and eaten a whole chocolate pizza to myself.
the food was delicious and upon meeting the owner and chef one can see that she is just as crazy and passionate about her food and this is definitely a feature that she portrays well through the food. it is obvious to see why toni’s is such a busy restaurant because it has the whole package ofgreatfood, greatpeople and just an overallgreatatmosphere.

last night i was fortunate enough to attend a foodie meet up at toni's, and i must say i'm so impressed with the place. i really cant fault it at all.
from the moment we walked in, we were treated royally and with genuine smiles. my first drink was a frozen margarita which was just the way i like it, not to weak but just the right kick. food was flowing the whole night and i really loved it all, the salads were so good that i've made the decision to go back there just for a salad feast. during all this we were fortunate enough to meet toni, not at all who i expected but wow, what an amazing soul.

the pizza was so great, i had a few pieces but my full belly wouldn't allow me to try them all. dessert was so amazing, im not usually a dessert fan but the nougat was amazing!

all in all i loved it, im still smiling! what agreatplace!

the pizzeria has very interesting combinations on their pizzas, but it works. a classical italian feel with colourful wood burning pizza ovens. however, i feel rocket is not necessary on each and every pizza. the ice cream and chocolate sauce pizza isgreatas a dessert, but make sure you share as it can be a bit much.

what a treat to celebrate a friends birthday at this very pretty little restaurant. pizza's was amazing as always, keeping the franchise name high. we frequent the menlo park branch more and this was our first visit to this particular toni's. unfortunately the evening ended in a major disappointment. after having paid the bill we were confronted by another server regarding what we thought of the service. now this is a pizza joint and receiving more than the associated service is always agreatprivilege, so we were content with what we received! our waiter, a gentleman in his mid twenties dressed like a street beggar with no sense of personal space, did what he was paid for, took orders, brought food to the table and provided us with a bill at the end of the night. nothing more, nothing less, however, being in the service industry and knowing that everyone has to make a start and particularity what people are paid has never been the bases of gratuities, except in the most incompetent cases. thus we rounded the bill and made my payment. the very untactful server, whom inquired about the service, asked that if service was okay why we only tipped 2%. shocked i realized that i had the total wrong and indeed only tipped 2%. we corrected this however made a point to inform the server that the monies can maybe invested in a hair cut and shaver, at which point she retorted, its not that it is fuel.

the mistake was mine, there is no dispute regarding this and we corrected it, however the point blank confrontation, assumption that 10% must be tipped, untactful handling of the matter and embarrassment, left a damper on the evening. the 10% service fee is for good service, not just service and i think the toni's waiters need to reevaluate this. the idea is not to do nothing and get something, was this their outlook on life a career in government should have been what they were aiming for.

it is unfortunate as we have always enjoyed the toni's food, the menlo park restaurant has always warranted their 10%, if not more and the service has never left me wanting more! toni's rietfontein can take a feather out of their sister branch!

toni's never disappoints here - this is the original and it is grand!greatvibe but not in a pretentious way. the service is great, they have a good bar selection and as for the pizza... exotic but somewhat homely flavour pairings. you can expect a surprise or two and i dare you to be adventurous. i once went there and didn't feel like anything on the menu so i called toni herself and said "surprise me" and she did! the most scrumptious pizza i've ever had. worth the trip every time for any occasion.

i have always loved toni's. from the first time i went, when they were still in 18th. the quality is always really good. the last time we went we had a witty waiter that had agreatsense of humour and loads of personality. the smoking area is a little cramped and our smoke seemed to bother the diners inside, which was a little unpleasant for us and them. apart from that, excellent.
