overcooked. saturday night for 2. mixed grill and turkey roast plate.

difficult to find this place if you are not a local, as there is absolutely no signage in front of the restaurant. however once inside you could get the sense of the history in the building. service was fine, but the food took a longtimeto come out which was a surprise, as the restaurant did not look completely full.

food: one word describes the experience: overcooked. and to be honest that is indicative of a poorly managed kitchen i feel. i'm no michellin chef but even i know not to overcook bacon to the extent it turns super hard (or is that what yukon bacon is suppose to be? hard and unpalatable?). the 100% beef pattie was dry and overcooked. the turkey was dry and overcooked. the reason this grates on me so is they are all cuts of meat that are not hard to cook well. it's not like trying to cook tender chicken breast, or fish that is just right. the portions were huge, but having huge portions of poorly cooked food doesn't make the food any less poor.

tip: if you do go - get something stewed. at least then there's no way it'll be overcooked.

sadly this icon of the northshore has fallen to the state it is now. once upon a time, when the father ran this fine restaurant the level of food quality was much higher. that and the service was second to none. that being said you won't find that now. these days you find high prices and reduced meals.  many years ago, the yukon breakfast was known for taking on the challenge of trying to finish the meal. now it is a just  average over priced meal.  seems the son, and his children don't have the passion for the business. might betimefor them to close the doors, and return those fine artifacts to the natives who are the rightful owners.  so don't waste your time, or money eating here. there is many finer places to spend your hard earned dollars.

disappointed. we drove 40mins to check out this place, we've heard rave reviews about the food, which looked delicious. unfortunately the experience was disappointing in that i didn't want to eat a lot and it was not an option to have an extra plate to eat off of unless i wanted to pay $5.50 for it. they have a no sharing policy they strictly enforce. so if you order a large portion and can't finish it - don't allow your pals to share it with you, you'll get charged. i can understand there is a sharing charge if i wanted to split a dish and have equal portions hashbrowns etc and the kitchen has to put thetimeand energy into splitting the dish- no problem i'll pay. but 'you're not allowed to share and divy up the food yourself' policy. i guess the establishment doesn't make enough money to spend the extra 25cents in the broader picture- to have the dishwasher clean the extra plate and set up cutlery, so that the customers dining experience is a pleasant one.

food for thought!

the burger itself looks like any other run of the mill burger, nothing standing out and taking my breath away. the patty is 6oz of "100% premium certified organic ground beef from the blue goose cattle company!". based on this, one would think of nothing but the highest quality of patty, but i wasn't able to take anything unique away from the patty itself. the patty is served on one of their "special baked buns" which, again, left a bit to be desired. it had a bit of crunch and you could tell it was fresh, but the burger was served cut in half and whoever did the cutting had mashed the bun like a bug causing it to already be half way through the disintegration process by thetimei first picked it up. prep and presentation of a burger are paramount, and i enjoy a burger that is pristine and untouched when i first spy it slowly making its way to my table. so, when you take it upon yourself to not only cut my burger, but press it down to the point of breaking apart the bun and squeezing

just had the worst dining experience today. same situation with 2knight but thistimei have my 4 year old daughter with me which made the situation much worse. we were even asked to make a choice of leaving or waiting...

the manager, laura, who greeted us and placed us on a waitlist. after a looooong wait, we were finally seated at 11:45 am, then we asked for the lunch menu... yep, the same dim witted blonde waitress, explained the same policy, was not even looking at me while explaining the policy ( she was speaking to the walls)., we have to leave the table while she spent 5 minutes explaining, which gave us 10 more minutes before the dreaded 12 noon policy. we stood up, with my kid fretting coz she was that hungry... then i told brianna, the hostess, why we were not told of such policy, and brianna asked laura to let us just sit and laura answered an indignant no! brianna explained to us that she was just new in her job but laura just stood there and instead of showing some empathy, she said, "well, you can either leave or wait". with a 4 year old kid getting hungrier, we waited.

brianna made an effort to give us table , and we were given a table at 12:20 pm. nevada, the server, the saving grace of the day, was all smiles, we asked her for kid's lunch menu, she immediately served my daughter's vanilla shake, however, it took about 30 minutes for our food to arrive,

the food was okay. however, it was marred by the service.
nevada, apologized when she got to know what happened and was empathetic to my daughter.

bottom line- never again

a dive of a dining experience. we were interested in checking out this restaurant because it was featured on the tv program, diners, drive-ins and dives. this restaurant was definitely a "dive" and should never have been featured on this show.

there was a bit of wait to be seated. so, we waited patiently out in the lobby. once we were seated at 11:45 pm, we informed the waitress that we would like to order lunch. the waitress then informed us we would have get up and leave our table and go wait out in the lobby again because the lunchtimesitting was at 12 pm.

this was completely ridiculous! with only 15 minutes before lunch could we not sit at our table and wait to order? no, this was completely out of the question according to our dim witted waitress.

so, we got up and waited in the lobby for yet a 2nd time, so we could be served "lunch". however, when 12 pm rolled around we were still waiting out in the lobby. it wasn't until 12:20 pm before we were seated again. while other customers who arrived after us were seated before us.

we were once again seated at the same table and had the same dim witted waitress who told us to go wait in the lobby earlier. the waitress then gave us the "lunch menu". our dim witted waitress seemed to have blacked out any memory of earlier encounter and asked us if we would like to order breakfast or lunch? (not the sharpest knife in the draw.)

once we got this finally sorted out, we ordered our lunch which took an extremely longtimeto cook and definitely was not worth the wait. the food was very greasy and tasted horrible.

i then excused myself and went to the men's washroom which was a tiny dirty, smelly, pit that looked like it was cleaned on very rare occasions. also, one of the toilets was clogged but none of the staff were particularly concerned about this.

we were happy to finish our greasy meal and get out of this place and never come back.

i don't know why this restaurant was featured on this tv program? the food was awful, the washrooms were a pig sty and the staff that works there (from the manager to the dim witted waitress) don't seem to give a damn.

the worst service ever!!!!. my wife and i went to the tomahawk in feb 2012 and had a good experience. we went back begining of september, what a mistake. we sat down and waiting for a while to get a drink orders put in and then waited to get our drinks and order dinner. the waitress took our orders and that was the lasttimewe saw her for a long time. five tables that we seated after us were brought their food. are you kidding! we sat for nearly 45 mins with nothing. our order was so simple, a cheese burger and a clubhouse. easy right? apparently not. the waitress comes over to our table after she noticed that we didn't have our food yet. then she precedes to inform us that she lost our order. for some crazy reason we decided to resubmit our order and stay. our food finally comes and the burger i ordered was smaller than a mcdonald's cheeseburger and cold and mushy. the thing that really made us mad was that the owner is standing at the cash register with one hand on it waiting for money from the customers. he didn't once walk around his restaurant to ask how everyones meal was or how things were going. i can't believe they can keep the doors open with service like that. terrible. don't go, costs a fortune and you will get the worst service you have ever seen.

i haven't been to the tomahawk for a longtimeand i had good memories about it. however i was very disappointed this time. the service was appalling as we had to wait upwards or 45 minutes for our breakfast. no real explanation was given and the server didn't seem to care that much. we were talking about leaving when the food finally arrived. it was pretty good but not worth the wait. i don't understand what happened as this place must turn a lot of tables. we weren't the only ones that waited a long time, so i think management needs to take note. even paying the bill with visa was a hassle as you have to line up at the cash where there is barely a 3 foot opening between the lobby and the reataurant, ridiculous! there are a lot of breakfast places around.... i don't think we'll be back to the tomahawk.

my wife and i have been to the tomahawk several times over the past few years, and eachtimethe service has been a bit worse, the wait has been even longer and the food has been even less satisfying. this past saturday was the straw that broke the camel's back. i expect to have to wait a while for the counter or a booth...it's to be expected when you go to the tomahawk. once we were seated we got one drink, had our order taken and then were summarily ignored for over 40 minutes. our waitress disappeared...literally...no one offered to get either of us another beverage, and our food never appeared. finally after suffering these indignities for long enough my wife announced to the nearest waitress that we were leaving and was told that we had to wait so she could talk to her manager. incensed, we dropped our change for the one glass of pop we had on the table and stormed out. i have never experienced such horrible, shoddy, unprofessional, uncaring service in my life and i will never recommend this restaurant to anyone i know or meet.

what a disappointment.

i found myself in north vancouver last night, and after years of hearing about this place, i finally decided to try the tomahawk. i love a good burger joint, so i was looking forward to it. what a mistake.

now, let me start off by saying that our waitress was really quite good. there was nothing wrong with the service.

even though it was dinnertime, my friend had an omelette. and although wildly over priced for what it was, she said it tasted good. honestly, you can find just as good at a number places in town for half the price that they charged. maybe even 35 to 40% of what they charged.

i had a burger. my burger came with cheddar, tomato, lettuce, and the secret sauce. i didn't particularly want cheese on it, and on the menu they charge almost $2.50 for cheese. so i asked if i didn't get the cheese, if the price would drop by $2.50. the answer to that was no. i wasn't really surprised by that. i opted for mozzarella instead of the cheddar. the burger came with fries, and i asked for them to be nice and crispy.

when the burger arrived, it was visually very disappointing. the price for it was somewhere around $10, maybe a little bit more or a little bit less, and it was about the size of a quarter pounder from mcdonald's. the meat patty was horribly thin, and when i bit into the burger it was both dry and almost a little bit cold.

i had to send the fries back, as they were hardly crispy, and was told that when someone asks for crispy fries, this is what they get. i don't know how you can call soft fries crispy fries.

but as far as the burger goes, it really was a joke. it was one of the most tasteless and flavorless burgers i've ever eaten. it was so dry, i had to take a mouth full of water everytimei took a bite of the burger.

i don't know what else is in north vancouver for burger choices, but i will never go back to this place again. for the same price, i can go to modern burger on broadway and get something that is twice the size and five times as good for the same price.

another legend that doesn't even come close to living up to its name.

disappointing. we drove over an hour to go to the tomahawk after seeing it on both 'you gotta eat here' and 'diners, drive-ins and dives' for lunch. we were seated after a little wait at 11:45am and given breakfast menus, when we asked for lunch, the waitress told us 'they didn't turn their fryers on for 15 more minutes' so we couldn't have lunch! we asked if we could wait to order and were told no. after a few minutes she came back and said if we really wanted we could leave our table and go wait in line again to have lunch. being almost 8 months pregnant i didn't really want to go stand for another 15-30 minutes so we decided to try the breakfast. by thetimefood actually arrived they had started serving the people around us lunch items!! the breakfast was ok, not that great considering the $15 you pay for an omelette with cold toast. we won't be going back. and i was so excited to go there! what a let down.

i had the chief simon baker and, i'm so sad to admit this, but i've never tasted beef in a burger like i did here. burgers nowadays are so processed, diluted, over-cooked and mishandled that the taste of the meat is usually missing, lost in a sea of toppings, but here, at the tomahawk, i tasted beef in a burger like beef should be in a burger. put some perfectly sauteed mushrooms, that amazing yukon-style bacon and cheddar on top and you've got the perfect finish to a nice long-weekend monday afternoon. i'll get you nexttimeyukon breakfast!

it's breakfasttimeagain and this was no exception, we're driving a good short distance for this place lol. you see, we live closer to north van than we do to richmond, so this drive is even closer and faster for the both of us. and yes, we both drive fast for this route, i mean c'mon….who needs super cars right !! lol and we always have to call whose driving and today colleen beat me to it. =) tomahawk restaurant 1550 philip ave, north vancouver bc tel#: (604) 988-2612 so when we decided on trying out a new place in north van we decided on this famous place that i've never heard of before till today. lol the outside appearance is pretty cool. the inside is a bit tinier than what i thought it might have been, i mean, we got seated in a booth that's like edge of elbow to elbow. the decor inside is very cool and i'm sure creepy at night, look at those tiny sculpted heads! creepy at night in the dark for sure. lol the paper place mat
