my experiences were positive. after seeing this place featured on both "diners, drive-ins & dives" as well as "you gotta eat here", my girlfriend and i decided to try it out. we've been back several times since.
i've read a lot of not-so-good reviews here, and all i can think of is that obviously both the service and quality of food can be inconsistent.
the times when we went, the older woman who was on with guy fieri was doing the cooking, and everything was cooked properly and tasted very good. i've had the steak and mushroom pie, the prime rib, thebeefdip, and a couple different burgers. i can only speak for myself, but i enjoyed each and every one of my meals - the meat in the steak and mushroom pie was amazingly tender. same with the prime rib.
service/wait times seems to have been an ongoing complaint on these boards. in our case, we went early for our dinners - usually around 5pm on a weekend night. it's before any sort of dinner rush, plenty of room, no waiting to be seated, and food came fast and hot.
i guess if i had to make a complaint or two - they undercooked the veggie side dishes a bit. a little too crunchy, could've used a few more mins in the water or steamer. and the top/crust of the steak and mushroom pie was a little dry on its own (but perfect when eaten with the meat/gravy). but that's really about it.
i'm not a stuck-up food snob, but i grew up eating rich, flavourful european cooking, so i do like to think i know legitimately "good" from "poor". i'm not hard to please, but i won't eat greasy crap that isn't properly cooked at a basic level.
so if you've seen the shows and want to try this place out, set yourself up for a good experience. don't go during a busy time, or during a breakfast/lunch changeover. this isn't a 5-star restaurant, but the number of bad reviews on here certainly doens't match my experiences over the past year (2012).
