amazing food but service could be better.

we went here a few weeks ago and walked in to put our names down for a seat as to book online you'll need to provide credit cards details. we were called after 30 mins and given a bar table seat. during the night, we had 3 staff attending to us. the service wasn't consistent as 2 of the staff was abrupt and forgot to bring our dessert after requesting for it a few times.

we really enjoyed the food as presentation, flavourings, and freshness was on point. unfortunately we won't be coming back as the restaurant wasn't covid safe either. staff didn't check vaccination and most was not wearing masks. we don't mind sitting at the bar table, but we were not social distance from the customer sitting next us who was less than an arm length away. he was coughing and blowing his nose the whole time we were there close to our food and cutleries and drinks preparation equipment.

the food were good, but i won’t come back due to the poor service. the attitude of the waitress (the one with dark hair and tattoo on her arm; not the blonde girl) was extremely rude and inappropriate. we’re not asking her to smile and be friendly, just at least provide us an adequate service. there are many instances where we felt disrespected:
- when we were taking orders, we confirmed the order among ourselves for a bit and then she immediately left.
- placing the food & cutlery harshly repeatedly.
- we were taking pictures of the food, and then she blocked the camera when she placed down the rest of the food even though half of the table had a space without saying anything.
- when she was placing another order and needed space, instead of saying things such as ‘excuse me’, she grabbed my hand and put it away.

understandably, some of these actions resulted from her not feeling good or was just a misunderstanding. however, grabbing my hand instead of asking me to give her space for the food and interrupting while taking a picture are inexcusable. these cases are scenarios that she could have handled so much better, even if she’s not feeling well. it is not hard to say ‘excuse me’.

we had dinner at tipo this week which is a bit of a melbourne institution for authentic pasta. the dishes aren’t really my style of food, (duck gnocchi, rabbit tagliatelle etc) but i selected the scallop risotto after seeing some comments on instagram raving. it was flavourful and well executed as i expected for $42 but nothing exceptional.

i enjoyed the burrata entree and the panacotta dessert though my husband chose poorly in the bomboloni which had a ricotta filling that could not be detected post they frying treatment. controversial opinion but not somewhere i’d personally rush to return to

been here twice and just adore the pasta here. the flavours are really original and not the typical you'll find in the usual joints. the polenta sticks are also quite tasty. a bit pricey but the quality of ingredients and the flavour makes it well worth the value

finally was able to get a booking here and it didn’t disappoint! it was all delicious and the ambience was great!
i was really looking forward to the squid in pasta and and i wasn’t the biggest fan, but the gnocchi was hands down the best gnocchi i’ve ever had! amazing

finally got to dine here after hearing all the good things about this place. pasta was fresh and delicious, well lived to their reputation. but the entree was pretty average which was the let down part.

only been here once. loved it.
we had the chef choice.
loved every dish. especially the squid ink pasta.
friendly staff.

i would love to always eat here, but booking is just too painful (gotta book way in advance) or you just have to rock up late (which was how we got to try it the first time). hence, scoring in now. who knows how long the next experience is gonna be.

i wish they would open up a larger restaurant.

what can i say the food in melbourne rocks. this is the best italian i have had ever! they are always super busy. the staff are like ballerinas dancing around the restaurant in an effortless fashion. and the food you can do no wrong. i have yet to have a bad dish. do yourself a favour and have the chocolate caramel tippomisu concoction

always, always, always a delight. we have come here at least 3 times a year for the past few years because you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. come in winter and you get to have truffle risotto :)

usually pretty busy but if you go after the peak lunch and dinner hour, the place is half filled and quite pleasant. i ordered the squid ink taglionlini and really enjoyed it.

maybe i expect too much resulting the experience is not that as impressive as i anticipate. the service is good though. and it did attract many foodies. it represents one of the best pasta restaurant in australia i think they should deliver better dishes.

lingua- okayish
tagliolini al nero- good but way too salty. kinda tasted like seawater
tipomisu- great

well.. was okayish altogether but maybe i expected too much 😂

got in really early to avoid the queue. this place can get really busy on weekend nights! ordered a bottle of red, calamari, and two spaghetti dishes. the calamari was a bit bland. everything else was pretty good. and the tiramisu was like really really good!

well sorted menu, cozy atmosphere, nice dinning experience, but not one of the best squid inked pasta i have tried so far. tips: booking is highly encouraged or come early to be seated.

came here for a dinner on a saturday afternoon. we thought at 4pm, we won’t have to wait - but we definitely thought wrong! the food was well worth the wait- definitely one of the best pastas if not the best pasta we’ve had in melbourne. the squid ink was delicious!
