authentic, fun, unusual. loved the fun retro coffee house feel. had the blue corn waffle boat with seasonal berries, and lavender whipped cream. it was great and super filling. all for $4! my partner had the huevos con carne, fried eggs one top of a pile of their house made, very hot, carne adovada and beans, papas, and a grilled torilla ($5), with red chile. the red was like my grandmother used to make; meaty, deep, and hot. i had a great latte and my partner had the fresh-squeezed rose water lemonade, which seemed slightly indian.

they only have counter service and thefooditems are served in baskets or to go.

tia betty's is an odd an fun place; retro 40's new mexican foods, a coffee house vibe, super fast lunch and prices that seem like they are also from the 1940's. what a treasure.

tia betty's has to be one of the most frustrating dining experiences in burque. thefoodis delicious and consistency is not. 3 out of 5 drive thru/pick up orders have been made incorrectly or missing food. sunday morning running errands, beautiful morning, place a call in order at 9:15 since i hadn't been to my neighborhood splurge in a while since my order is always wrong....order isn't ready until 9:40....driving home thinking this is really going to be worth the wait. bacon forgotten!!! how can you forget the bacon?! i sure was charged for it. so annoying. called the manager and he offered to pay for my breakfast next time. honestly, i doubt i will be back at this point. whenever my coworkers want to go, i say no let's do copper canyon instead....bummer to an almost perfect morning. womp womp. 😒 the flip side is the people are generally very nice and thefoodis freaking good but starting to question my patronage. my recommendation: shut the drive thru down if you just can't get it right. 👌🏽consistently and service can ruin some tasty grub!!

tia's was one of our favorite, five star locations until recently. we were incredibly sad to discover that tia betty blue's no longer dedicates a waffle maker to their gluten-free waffles. as my partner has (is) celiac, this is a huge deal. this was one of only two places he could safely get a waffle. theirfoodis great and he especially loves the azteca coffee, but it is no longer worth driving across town now that the waffles aren't safe. :(

if you don't have to worry about cross contamination with gluten, this place is amazing. the prices may seem high, but the quantity offoodyou get for those prices is extensive. everything i have ever tried there was tasty.

i want to like this place, really. first, thefoodis good, but we came on a sunday morning for brunch and there was roughly a 45 minute wait to get our food. normally not a deal breaker, however, the patio is literally swarming with flies. once we got our food, they were out of silverware and coffee, also normally not a problem, but with no table service and a huge line, we weren't able to flag anyone down to remedy this. good food, but brought down by a bad overall service experience.

very good homemade food. how do these guys do it? thefoodis very good and it's cranked out of this small, exposed efficient kitchen. the menu is classic yet adventurous and even healthy if you feel so inclined. great collection of classic new mexican ingredients and fun delicious combinations. one of my favorites is the carne adovada on the savory blue corn waffle with an egg on top. good coffee and a fun collection of bottled sodas too.

april 13, 2015 by kristin satterlee leave a comment the big burrito stuffed with calabacitas and smothered with red and green this is another one of those “i can’t believe i didn’t share it earlier” reviews. tia betty blue’s opened about three years ago on a neglected stretch of san mateo not far from gibson, in a two-story building that used to house a cleaning business. it was a surprise to see someone try a restaurant there, where one of the most notable nearby landmarks is k-bargain plaza, a derelict strip mall. of course, the location of michael thomas seemed equally strange when it first opened on a similarly unpromising section of carlisle, and look how that went ! perhaps the benefits of the two spots are as similar as their downsides, because both are sandwiched between residential neighborhoods hungry for tasty options nearby. i know i appreciate both of them being within walking distance of my house. in any case, though i appreciated tia betty blue’s tastyfoodwhen they opened, that was around the time when i was developing the achalasia that made it hard for me to swallow – and spicyfoodwas particularly challenging for me – so we didn’t go there much. since my surgical fix, though, i’ve been having regular cravings for red chile. (odd, since i’d always been a green-chile gal before.) particularly, i’ve been wanting to eat at tia betty blue’s. tia bb’s – as we call it at my house – calls out to me with a siren song of delicious, plentiful new mexicanfoodin a quirky, retro-hipster atmosphere. the menu hangs on the wall to the side of the register on huge laminated sheets, and can sometimes be hard to see around the line waiting to order at the counter. there are take-out menus by the register, which may be easier to read if you can reach in and snag one. there are a lot of choices, so it’s nice to be able to take your time with the menu. tia betty blue’s does a great job with classic new mexican food, like their $4 breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs,

singing the blues. sorry to be singing the blues about this restaurant. it is my first not-so-exuberant review, but i feel this must be said. you stand in line to order and pay, neither of which would be a problem if they kept proper track of your order. the order taker was on the phone taking an order when it was our turn at the front of the line, and it turned out this was an important factor in the service we received. our first hint of problems was when thefooddeliverer attempted to deliver at our table, based upon the order number on the order plaque we'd been given and was standing on our table. but thefoodwasn't ours, instead was thefoodat the next table, people who had sat down after we had sat down. then the waiter took our number plaque!! he showed us the take-out order that appeared to have mixed things up, and then he gave us a new order number plaque. we assumed he'd run to the kitchen and tell them to do our order immediately since we had not been duly served. apparently not so...we waited and waited. finally my husband went downstairs. there was no one in line at all and he talked to the woman who had taken our order in the first place. she said "oh, are you the ones who ordered take-out and then changed your minds and ate in?" absolutely not! finally, the server brought ourfoodup, apologized, brought more coffee, and after we had finished eating the big plate offoodhe offered to buy us dessert. sorry, people, we've heard that one before: offer something at a point after which you'd never accept anyway. thefoodwas great, but we won't go again because of the service. there are too many other options out there.

this is excellent made-from-scratch new mexicanfoodwith a friendly staff and comfortable setting. we had breakfast and loved the carne adovada; the red chile rivals our family recipe, delicious.

bad service, gross food, and horrible ambiance! my sister and i decided to try this place for the first time. we ordered on right after the other. we waited about 30min to get myfoodand another 20min to get her food. when i got myfoodmy order came out wrong. i sent it back and continued to wait another 30min. their blue corn tortillas and flower tortillas are store bought and their chili's are far from delightful. bad food, bad service, and horrible ambiance.

took a chance - glad i did. last minute decision to stop and try this place out. both my daughter & i thought it was, "just another mexicanfoodrestaurant - like we need one here." i was pleasantly surprised. staff are hip, urban, patient and upbeat. indoor/outdoor seating. slightly busy, but not a long wait time. not your typical burrito joint. everything made fresh - from fresh ingredients. they even make their own granola! had the asparagus sandwich and a dry cucumber soda. thefoodwas very tasty & filling. i am a big fan of their potato salad. soooo good!

new mexican food....fast --not!. the ew place, new decor and new signs got my wife and me to try this place since we were in a hurry. the big blue sign on the outside says, "new mexicanfood... fast." the line only had 3 people in front of us when we got there... but took 10 minutes to get to our order. got our fountain sodas (vice the high-priced bottles) and immediately noticed they were flat and over-saturated with the flavoring. the gal in the kitchen took them back to refill them after she changed the co2 bottle. 5 minutes later she came back and offered a bottled soda because they were out of co2. ok, not so bad. however 30 minutes later, we still had no food. i stuck my head in the kitchen and asked where our order was and she said it was up next (despite having the people that were 5 folks behind us in the line already eating their meals). so, i asked for it to go. 5 minutes later, we finally got our food. i dropped her off at work and i went back to mine and wouldn't you know, my wife sends me a text saying she must've grabbed myfoodcause she got what i ordered... nope, i got mine... they just made 2 identical boxes offooddespite my wife special ordering completely different with their gluten free chili and no cheese. so, there... i tried it and will never be back. 50 minutes is not fast and the only flavor in thefoodwas the fritos and overpowering paprika of the carne asada.

found it by accident. we dont come to albuq too often. we were heading out and saw a man with a sign. its a little hole in the wall but a big surprize. thefoodwas great and at a great price. the chili actually had a bit of heat to it. loved the big band music but not crazy about the mixed atmosphere is it a swinging place? or a dia de los muerdes/wrestlemania place? oh well its still good and we will go back

a neighborhood jewel. thefoodis excellent, fresh and delicious; the red chili is particularly good. the menu is full of inventive, quirky and attractive choices and although i've only tried the breakfasts, there are numerous, tempting sandwiches and wraps on the lunch list. service is quick and friendly and the vibe is an interesting mix of hip and homey. i really like this place and will return often.
