thumbs up for thumbs up. the only time i ever crave breakfast is on sunday morning, and thisplacecertainly hits the spot! it is the perfect combination of old fashioned southern cooking and upscale,. eclectic dining in a retro setting at an affordable price. whew, if you think that was a mouthful, wait till you see the menu!
there are so many things to choose from here, from traditional eggs and bacon, fluffy waffles, and huge omelettes to fried catfish, steak and eggs and the ultimate breakfast skillet. check the blackboard-the daily specials are fab as well. head's up on a few things:
don't skip the homefries/hash browns-they are cooked en mass on the griddle with heaps of black pepper, sweet peppers and onions and are truly yummy-they could be a meal unto themselves, and are the starring ingredient in the skillet meals.
vegetarians have much to choose from here: there is great soy sausage and several veggie specific choices here, along with a vegetarian board special daily.
go early: they work on first come-first served here and on sunday, especially in the 4th ward, the line starts at 10am...it moves quickly, and they have newspapers for your waiting pleasure...besides, it will take you that long to decide what you'll have when you do get seated.
most importantly-go with friends! there are so many good things on the menu here, you need to go with friends, order lots, and share!!! you can easily have your own brunch buffet here with just a few selections.
if you are solo-sit at the counter, engage in conversation with the cool ones around you (that's where the really cool regulars sit)and just take in the scene...and finally, ladies: ask for the waiter with the dreadlocks...
