after you’re done checking in and have your room situated, it’s lunch time. a great place to start your paso robles food experience is at thomas hill organics bistro and wine bar. debbie thomas had been in the high-stress advertising world in los angeles and wanted to slow the pace down a bit. debbie had vacationed in paso robles and knew this is where she wanted to retire. in 2003, it all started with a farm that began to produce more fruits and vegetables that a family could eat themselves. they started giving away produce to their friends. eventually, debbie and her business partner started a csa (community supported agriculture) program along with thomas hill farms which had grown to 900 trees and various row crops. with this success and abundance of produce, the organic restaurant route was the next venture. the restaurant has grown with recent expansions of a courtyard patio dining area and wine bar entrance from park street. along with organic produce and locally raised ingredients, they also have unique water glasses made from the bottom half of wine bottles. the top half is used as a votive candlelight disperser on the bar and tables.

first time in paso robles and walked in 15 minutes before closing and apologized and said we'd be back later but the insisted we come in. we were expecting leftover type quality buy everything was done fresh and from scratch and oh so delicious. appetizers , main course and desert. all fabulous. so good we made reservations for the next evening.

we wanted to love it. our group of four has been looking forward to eating at thomas hill for a long time. we went today for brunch and couldn't be more disappointed. the wait staff was good, but that's the only compliment we have.

we ordered quail salad. the tiny quail was tasty, but after those 4 bites were gone, the lettuce was wilted. we ordered two burgers. one was ordered well done and came out medium rare. the cheese combination overpowered all the other flavors. neither one of us finished our burger, even after returning the burger to be recoooked. the pork belly sandwich was okay, but not worth saying, "yum," over.

none of it was worth waiting an hour for. we were told they were short-handed in the kitchen.

restaurant owners, beware! there is a lot of competition in your industry. if a customer is willing to spend 50 dollars on brunch, treat them well. if there's a glitch, give them an incentive to return.

we were inclined to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt for the wait, but to follow it up with mediocre food? we won't be back and will never recommend it.

running a quality restaurant is hard work. no wonder most restaurants don't last long.

yes bad food and bad service still exist in paso.

for over a year and a half i've traveled through paso weekly and have had nothing but amazing food and service until i had dinner at thomas hill organics. we started with an appetizer. our main dish came out 50 min later....yes 50! our fish was split like was asked however the fish was cold, skin soggy, and plate hot. brooke (our waitress who had avoided us for the past 45 min) took back our food and didn't return. we waited 5 min and our fish came out however it looked a little familiar...it was the exact same fish! they didn't even attempt to make it look like a new piece. when asked about it the waitress brooke seemed like there was nothing wrong with this. we sent it back again and then asked to speak to the manager adam. as we were walking back to our car we heard the kitchen staff talking about us and yelling "get the f#%k out". talk about making us feel great. we won't be back to thomas hill organics

no longer affiliated with the organic farm!. as owner and farmer of thomas hill farms, the organic farm that tho originated from and is named after, i need to say that the bistro has not sourced my organic produce for quite some time. the farm is no longer affiliated with the bistro in any way because they have chosen to go in a totally different direction. we here at the farm wish them all the best as they travel down this different road. i hope this clears up some of the confusion that has arisen.

wildly original food. we tried the black lentil tacos that were made of pureed carrot, cashews, coconut and watermelon and to our surprise they were quite tasty. for dinner i had the bengali spiced black cod and it was served over pickled watermelon with roasted beets and strawberries and it was also very good. service was slow in the beginning because my server got many tables at one time but after the beginning it was fine.

amazing food, horrible service. hard to rate this one....great menu...food was top notch..loved the summer fruit salad, chicken confit siracha wings...waiter took order and 10 minutes later was told that entrees were not available...ordered burgers...they were good. asked for a wine list to go with burger...waiter stopped after meal and mentioned that he forgot the wine list...the place was not that busy. slow, slow and basically incompetent service...so sad as the food once it arrives is quite good. i am hoping the owner and chef see this review.

always a surprise - always delightful. we are lucky locals who choose to eat here often because the food is consistently delicious and the service is spot on! chef julie creates combinations that i never in a million years would think of and we are have never been disappointed. for a small town, we are blessed with many great restaurants but this my favorite!

favorite, hands down. love this place. we are lunch/brunch goers here and have never been disappointed. welcoming, friendly service and delicious food. i just love getting my own little french press of delicious jobella coffee. appetizers are fabulous. the ahi tuna tataki is my personal favorite. the whipped lemon yogurt in the summer and roasted cauliflower dip in cooler weather are so satisfying; served with warm, soft pita bread. if you're hungry you can't go wrong with the pork belly sandwich. for lighter meal, we'll split an appetizer and each order a salad dish. the gifted chefs subtly incorporate amazing flavors into their dishes with farm fresh fruits and veggies, grains, herbs and spices that make us want to lick our plates clean everytime.

bad service. made a reservation then were asked to move it earlier by half an hour, which we agreed to. when we arrived were told we had two hours to eat and leave. ordered appetizers and left. boo for customer service on the night of my friends' bachelorette w prior reservations.

the caramel sauce was super sweet, but the pomegranate seeds were tart and they balanced the whole treat. in conclusion, if you go there, expect fresh, organic ingredients from the farm, but not an extraordinary meal!

one of our favorites. we live in foodie heaven here in paso robles and thomas hill organics is one of our favorite spots. the food is delicious and interesting and the service is outstanding. the ambiance is relaxed and friendly and the noise level is low so you can actually have a conversation. if the terrace is open, it's delightful.
