love the yard! best grilled cheese sandwiches that i have ever had in my life! great beerselectiontoo. this place is a must try if you want some comfort food!

when for a weekday lunch. nice menuselectionand portion size. i had crabby patty sandwich which was pleasantly different. service a little on the slow side.

i had poppin my collar which was one the best grilled cheese sandwiches i've ever had. really goodselectionof sandwiches. tomato soup was ok. fries were really good but they don't give you as much as stack'd. a bit pricey for amount of food they give but overall a really good meal.

i went here for the first time last night with my fiancé and our friends. we were really excited because we had heard good things. let me start off with the positives: the service was good, and the poutine was amazing. they have a largeselectionof beer, and my friend liked her adult cream soda beverage. now for the negatives: the caprese salad did not taste as fresh as we would have liked it, especially since the restaurant claims to use local foods. there was hardly any basil in it. now onto the grilled cheese. i got the wang chung tonight. i didn't taste any cheese on it, and the pork seemed like chicken. generally, the bread should be thinner, and have a little more butter on the outside to get it nice and golden brown and crispy. i eat grilled cheese for the cheese, and i don't want 2 slices of thick bread to mask the star of the dish.

the desserts were fun and decadent. my friends loved the donuts, and they ordered them just plain.

i would go back for the poutine, and to have some drinks, but that's about it.

after recently visiting melt in cleveland, some friends recommended the yard in shadyside. the yard is described as an american gastropub for gourmet pub food & craft beer. the attraction at the yard is their beerselectionand gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

going in and looking at the menu their were a couple items that sounded good but, when i came across “yinz guys hungry?” i honestly couldn’t pass up an item so closely associated with this blog. yinz guys hungry is basically a primanti’s style sandwich with provolone / steak / cole slaw / french fries / tomato. the bread the ingredients are sandwiched between is great, i’m guessing homemade but not sure about that. the sandwich itself let me down, i can only describe it as a poor man’s primanti’s sandwich that lacked a lot of flavor. the plus side to this sandwich was that it wasn’t as monstrous as a primanti’s sandwich but the

...i really do. it's a few blocks from my house, classy appearance. i've given it the ole college try - eaten maybe 6-7 times there, and that's only because i really want to like it. anywhere else it would've been 1 and done. a couple of the grilled cheeses were good, sometime really really soggy. a few things not to try-- garlic parm wings (congealed mess of thick whitish buttery discharge without a hint of garlic spread across cold wings); the burger was not very good either, bread was untoasted and mushy. the good: the beerselectionis by far the best in shadyside. the over-arching issue, however, is just how terrible the service is. i really have tried to make our relationship work but it's so hard when she treats you so badly. examples: someone spilled 1/2 glass water at table, no napkins in sight. look for waiter, any waiter x 5 mins, none around the entire dining room. go to bar, they say, well you're on the other side, ask for your waiter. all we needed was a stack of napkins or a rag. example 2: bar at 12:30 on a sat night, 30+ people in bar area, 2 people behind bar. numerous people trying to order or pay tabs. female bartender: "oh i'm just back here but i'm not working here anymore, you'll have to talk to the bartender but he's busy." example 3: trying to pay at a table... have not seen waiter in 20+ mins, everyone has their dirty dishes in front of us. unsuccessfully waving down other staff. our waiter came back with markedly slurred speech and bloodshot eyes... someone else pointed this out in the reviews and i've not been one to call someone out for this but wow, she was right....never once have i seen a manager/ ass't manager anywhere on the floor or helping out. this kind of poor service is definitely a top-down issue -- i worked as a waiter, bartender, host, expo for several years and this would've flown in places with poor management but not where we had strong managers. please get it together, yard, or else you'll have to go the ways of so many other shadyside restaurants

$10... that's amazing. i went to the yard last night. the thursday night special was a beer and their signature burger for $10. it was great. i got a draft, craft beer and a burger cooked to order. the beerselectionwas so big, i got a second draft. my bill was $15. the staff was very friendly. great atmosphere. i think it is a good location (slightly off walnut, across from william penn tavern). i tried to take a picture for urbanspoon, but the app timed out twice.

to the owner: post some pictures. you have good stuff.

great new spot!. awesome new place in shadyside. what sets it apart from the rest of the walnut st. bars is:
1. focus on good food
2. amazing specials
3. ridic beerselection30+ on draft (maybe 40+?)

so for example, tuesdays sliders and flights are $5 sliders and $5 beer flights. my wife and i added in $4 sweet potato fries (crispy and amazing) and boom, dinner and drinks for ~$40 total. absolutely cannot beat that on walnut street. we'll definitely be making this our go-to spot.

great new place. came in saturday night for their opening weekend and loved it! food was great and draftselectionis the best in shadyside. i got the pulled pork sandwich which was better than down anything i ever at down south and my wife got the caprese salad & cheesecake which she loved too. they have flights & yards of beer which i thought was cool & unique for the area. will definitely be back!
