every now and then you find a little gem of a cafe that completely surprises you and blows you away – like the wooden whisk in crows nest/st leonards. [ps: win 2 tickets to taste of melbourne on november 12th-15th! check out my instagram to enter!]. it’s not like the black stars or the bourke street bakeries that you hear about all thetime– it’s an understated little cafe on the north shore that kicks butt with its food. it’s on an unassuming street – and of course that means i made assumptions about it. but as soon as i walked into the wooden whisk i knew there was something different about it. first off, the menu was huge, with a whole list of specials on a blackboard as well. the second thing i noticed was how packed the place was – that’s a sure sign of a good place.

the staff here are very friendly - we were greeted warmly upon arrival and taken to our table. the food here is pretty average though. bothtimethat i’ve been here for food, their poached egg is terrible - overcooked and is basically a hard boiled egg...their coffee isn’t that great either unfortunately.

saturday morning brunch! finally made it after three weekends trying to visit on a sunday. beware- they are not open on sunday!

friendly service and promptly seated.
we ordered drinks first and food second.
food came super fast!! way before our drinks.
so by thetimei wanted to have my hot chocolate it was only luke warm.

the bacon wrap was stuffed with delicious ingredients.

the croque madame toaster was uber cheesy and very filling.

as per usual for sydney brunches/breakfasts/meals, portions were huge. i would recommend sharing two between three if you’re not that hungry.

the hot chocolate and the mocha were so so so good. love that chocolate hit.

can’t wait to be back again for another visit :)

i ordered the pulled pork eggs benedict and a cappuccino.

first the cappuccino!
my personal preference is i don’t like my coffee too strong and bitter. this cappuccino was perfect for me! the coffee was light and tasty.

the eggs benney!
i’ve had eggs benedict with sourdough, with hash, and now with pulled pork. it was delicious! personal preference is probably still sourdough, but the pork worked well with the hollandaise sauce, the red cabbage, and the green apple was actually such a good combination (firsttimehaving apple with my eggs benney).

definitely coming back to try some more!

oh my goodness, i think i've found my favourite brunch place ever! if only it wasn't so far away from me :(
this place was packed at midday on a saturday, but we were cheerily led to a table for two straight away. they have both indoor and outdoor seating so the wait wouldn't have been too long anyway.

we got the pulled pork eggs benedict and the beef / potato hash. both were sooo scrumptious! the flavours just blended together so well, my taste buds were having thetimeof their lives 😂
despite being so busy, the wait for the food wasn't long at all, and we were kept preoccupied by our mango passion frappe, which by the way was also so very tasty! best of all, the prices were reasonable with both of our dishes being $16-$18.

if the food and service wasn't enough to impress, the bathroom wall was nicely decorated and included a changing table for parents which i thought was so thoughtful - and rare - for a cafe.

having heard a lot of great things about the wooden whisk cafe, i knew it was abouttimefor me to verify for myself. stepping into the bright and airy space on this perky thursday morning, i was greeted by their lovely waitstaff to take a seat...it is one of life’s simple pleasures to sip on strong hot coffee whilst reading the paper. and this is exactly what i got to do for 10 minutes before chuck norris made its grand entrance.

healthy ninja!!

wooden wisk serves up cafe style food with an amazing healthy selections available.

my favourite was the "sticky pulled pork burger", "chuck norris tacos" and the "braised lamb shoulder salad" was delicious! my favourite dish was acutally the lamb salad, surprisingly it was really nice.

the location is abit out of place but its close to the station so its not too bad.
would love to cone back and try new dishes! also you must get the "mother of all dragons" smoothie!

until nexttime... keep eating!!!

really love this cafe. came here for the secondtimethis morning, and again not disappointed. greeted by the same gentleman as lasttime(i think the owner), we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated even though the cafe was packed. my ricotta, avocado, tomato and poached eggs on rye bread was awesome, would recommend. my friends said the eggs benedict were very good. everything i've had here has been great and service is attentive and fast. my coffee was a bit strong for my liking but just a personal preference. we live in surry hills and honestly the ww is consistently better than any cafe there!

the wooden whisk at st leonards is a cosy little cafe located just a stones throw away from the bustling office district closer to the train station. the cafe is popular and buzzing with activity even on a tuesday brunchtimewhen one would expect it to be relatively quiet. sautéed field mushrooms with garlic, truffle butter, marinated fetta, smoked pork, poached egg and toast

the firsttimei dropped in, it was only for cake and coffee. the coffee was not to my liking, but the cakes (salted caramel slice and chocolate brownie) were pretty good. the secondtimei dropped by was for lunch. we had the spiced lamb, the tahini chicken, and the brioche french toast. the food is great. all the dishes we had were pretty good but the french toast was definitely the highlight. thick cut brioche so it remained fluffy and a good fruit to toast ratio. i prefer to get most of the sugar via fruit as opposed to maple and there was a good amount of strawberries and bananas. a great feed and i'll definitely return when i'm next in the area.

st leonards, sydneywe were lucky enough to attend the wooden whisk café on the corner of albany & oxley sts st leonards.this café is exceptional. the takeout meals are just as appealing as the dine in meals and their coffee is one of the best brews we have tasted. their coffee is soul origin and is roasted over a 12 day cycle in our own surry hills in sydney. coffee is taken seriously here. this is apparent when you take the first sip. we would go out of our way to have a coffee from wooden whisk and from the number of patrons i observed ordering takeout coffee, we are not the only ones. upon arrival we were greeted by sean (the owner) who ushered us to a table. the atmosphere was cosmopolitan, warm and welcoming and at the sametimeenergetic and lively.  he gave us the menus and also explained the specials board. i ordered a mixed fruit juice made by sean while we pondered over the menu. there was such a wide choice.

such a gem!. i have finally gotten around to writing a review on this place! we have been here quite a few times and everytimeit is just amazing! even when it is busy (which it often is) the service is sharp and you are never left waiting long. the food is always amazing and incredibly reasonably priced for the portion size and quality ingredients. great atmosphere also.

fantastic!

it only gets better!. i have been a regular customer for over one year and everytimei go back the quality and consistence impresses me even more. the coffee is delicious as well as the food - my favorites are the 'breakfast grazing board' and 'the sautéed field mushrooms' , yummy! the service overall is very nice and efficient - there is only one staff member who i couldn't call the most friendly type, but nothing able to affect the great quality of one of my favorite brekky places in town.
