every now and then you find a little gem of acafethat completely surprises you and blows you away – like the wooden whisk in crows nest/st leonards. [ps: win 2 tickets to taste of melbourne on november 12th-15th! check out my instagram to enter!]. it’s not like the black stars or the bourke street bakeries that you hear about all the time – it’s an understated littlecafeon the north shore that kicks butt with its food. it’s on an unassuming street – and of course that means i made assumptions about it. but as soon as i walked into the wooden whisk i knew there was something different about it. first off, the menu was huge, with a whole list of specials on a blackboard as well. the second thing i noticed was how packed the place was – that’s a sure sign of a good place.

tried this place for the first time, got the warm lamb shoulder salad, it came out very quickly. literally one of the best salads i’ve ever had. the flavours all compliment each other.

i will say thecafeis a bit pricey so couldn’t afford to go there all the time, but it’s a must try!

great cosycafein st leonards, came here catching up with friends over brunch. i ordered the beef burger and it came with a beef patty, bacon, leaves, cheese and tomato and a side of chips with tomato sauce and aioli. would recommend for a casual brunch!

such a great menu! forget about the generic eggs on toast, here's acafeto add some zing to your brunch with their friend chicken eggs benedict which comes served on a croissant, and their green bowl which comes with lots of green, but also a healthy dose of chorizo and umami flavours. brilliant flavours all around! only thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars rating was that our poached eggs were slightly overdone. bustling little cafe, overall would definitely come back again.

thecafeis just a few steps from ground level. coffee is decent, staff is friendly. the two salads we ordered, fried haloumi salad and lamb shoulder salad are nicely done, burrito and pasta was okay, not a wow factor but still nice.

the wooden whisk is a homely and cozycafein st leonards which offers a range of juices and smoothies and popular breakfasts and brunches. the service team were tidily dressed in dark blue aprons and the wooden tables and exposed brickworks held a relaxing atmosphere.

however, the food and coffee could be better. the flat white was served scalding hot with a larger proportion of espresso than milk. the eggs benedict with pulled pork was forgettable too. the pulled pork was dry and chewy and the hollandaise sauce was a little too acidic to coalesce the sourdough, eggs and pulled pork.

bestcafein st leonards hands down. an extensive menu for breakfast and lunch which comes out really quick whether dining in or take away which is great if you're on the go. great quality food and presented really well. the coffee is the best in the area and there's a variety of options as well. the service here is amazing. you're greeted within a second of entering thecafeand from sitting down all the way through to paying, the service is so good and friendly.

the wooden whisk is one of the better places to eat in st leonard's that offers a good menu of classic favourites andcafe'must have' dishes from chick burgs to smashed avo. i ordered the chicken burger, although it was very delicious - definitely wasn't the best chicken burger and could use a lighter and fluffier bun to balance out the generous chicken filling. overall, i was very satisfied and pleased with my meal and was full and craving for an afternoon nap to soothe my food coma urges.

i must say, they aren't too fond of split bill here (it's as though you've inconvenienced them gravely). so if you come in a big group - bring cash to avoid being ridiculed a "cashless gen y".

very busy for weekday lunch. what a contrast to the construction zone outside! it's cozy, welcoming & warm, it's one of thosecafeyou can just hang out there for ages. i got the sticky pull pork burger from the specials board. aside from being a bit stingy with the tiny piece of crackling, everything about it was great. interesting flavours with the kimchi slaw. it was a little heavy with the brioche bun. the accompanying fries were perfect. i also got the kale crave juice, which was refreshing offset to the burger. will definitely be back.

healthy ninja!!

wooden wisk serves upcafestyle food with an amazing healthy selections available.

my favourite was the "sticky pulled pork burger", "chuck norris tacos" and the "braised lamb shoulder salad" was delicious! my favourite dish was acutally the lamb salad, surprisingly it was really nice.

the location is abit out of place but its close to the station so its not too bad.
would love to cone back and try new dishes! also you must get the "mother of all dragons" smoothie!

until next time ... keep eating!!!

popularcafeamong locals. tried their sticky pulled pork burger with kimchi slaw, crackling crumb ($18.90) and served with fries - the burger was good but rather small and lacked the crackling... also ordered their ginger snap spice latte (with lemon grass, ginger & tumeric) for takeaway, which was an interesting take on the biscuit.
