our friend was visiting for the weekend, so we obviously had to hit up a boozy brunch. not having tried the twisted tail just yet, i booked us an outdoor table for sunday brunch. an added incentive? the boozy champagne popsicle cocktails i've been seeing all over instagram! . champagne cocktails aside, this headhouse square hotspot is a southern-inspiredbourbonhouse and juke joint, with plenty of american whiskies and bourbons on offer. you can dine al fresco and enjoy the sights and sounds of the headhouse square farmer's market or listen to live music as well.

bestbourbonselection around!. saturday night on south street and we were surprised this place was not packed! once the world finds out about this little treasure, we'll be fighting for a table. the four of us each started off with a different bourbon, so we could taste the broadest range of bourbons. there selection is the best around including bourbons you can't usually find around philadelphia. we started off with the mussels appetizer which was flavorful and cooked well. we continued with an order of the chef's special chicken shank, two pork belly entrees, and the beef cheeks. everything was so delicious that we shared all our plates! we had another round ofbourbonand even tried the fudge brownie (super rich!) and shortcake desserts! our service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. we will be back!

on one of our many recent rainy weekend days, we stopped by the twisted tail for a late brunch. they just opened in headhouse square and in addition to food and drink, offer live blues music and open blues jams, for those of you inclined. they're also abourbonhouse so they've got quite the array of liquors! they also feature a charcoal grill in their kitchen and cook most of their food over open heat, whenever possible. of course, they also have beer. the restaurant is really quite big, especially the downstairs. i did not get to check out the upstairs, where the music happens. it's decorately quite tastefully, even with all of the curly tail motif everywhere. it's warm and masculine, with a slightly rustic touch. here's some complimentary bread, one which was a corn bread, and one which was abourbonbased bread, i think. see the curly q of butter? yes
