th stockyards lousy food. visited with freinds just before the dinner rush period. the ribs were stone cold, the pulled pork sandwiches were tasteless, and the fries were soggy and cold. the place was also dirty. overall i give it barely a pass, maybe 5 out of 10. maybe commercial succes has spoiled this possibly once genuine operation.

burgers/sandwiches = $$$. the food is good, but overpriced. i recently tried the cubano sandwich (because they ran out of pulled pork) without fries and a drink, and it cost me 11 bucks plus tax. that seems to me as a little ridiculous. it's not a place that a student would be able to go to often, as there are many cheaper choices around where one can grab a burger/sandwich. if it was a more reasonably priced place, i would probably go there more often.

i went to the stockyards smokehouse & larder over the weekend. i seen a review on the internet so decided i have to try it out since there were so many good reviews. at first me and my friend wanted to try the beef brisket sandwich but sadly it was all sold out. we got there fifteen minutes before dinner even started. don't understand how it can be all gone already when dinner wasn't even opened yet. man it must be good so we were pretty disappointed since we couldn't get that sandwich. we decided to order the special of the day which was the pastrami sandwich. apparently they used to have this on their menu regularly but the waitress told us since they couldn't keep up with the high demand they had to remove it from the regular menu and offer it as a special instead. it was good but a bit dry. i think the pastrami at centre street deli is way better. it's much more tender and full of flavor. here is the bbq pulled pork sandwich with apple and hickory smoked pork shoulder topped with c

i gave the stockyards a "what a treat" rating on my burger blog. this is a cool bbq place but not the best burger place. they have a great burger but the best places put everything into their burger.

when you walk in you get greeted by a very friendly staff member. you place your order and have a seat. you then watch as they place your burger patty on the grill and squish it with a weight. when done they serve you your burger in a cast iron pan. rough and rustic is the best way to describe the stockyards.

the burger is no doubt good. it falls apart as you eat. the kind of greasy burger you crave after a rough night. the deep fried pickle on top adds a great crunch and flavour i haven't found elsewhere. my coworker is sitting next to me raving about the cheese stuffed inside but i have trouble finding much. it could be inconsistency in the back but i don't know. i want to love this burger like my co-worker but just can't get there. the bun is really lacking. the owner is outside chatting with us and even he says the same thing. other then the juicy lucy it doesn't seem there is any other real options to top your burger. i think they could be an elite burger place but that isn't what they are going for.

prepare yourself when you goto the stockyards for the following: a wait, things that run out on the menu, comfort southern cuisine and the guilty feeling of eating way too many carbs and calories!

great fried chicken. this place was packed on a friday night at 7pm.. we couldn't get a spot in the restaraunt so we decided to get take out... and it was just as good! (although i ordered a jug of limeade for $13 and they forgot to give it to me -- forgot to check for it too. so i called them back and they took my name so now i have a $13 credit for my next visit! incentive to go back!) they gave us extra bbq sauce (even though we only paid for 4 of them.. and were given about 10!) and it was great! their chicken was so juicy and wasn't dry at all! their ribs were great.. meaty and it was the "dry" kind.. we also ordered a potato salad which was extremely great! loved their fries too!

great ribs, won't order the coleslaw again. i had a half-rack of ribs. they didn't come with any sides so i order a limeaide and some coleslaw. the coleslaw has a nice crunch but there is some seasoning in it (caraway seeds maybe?) that i do not like personally. i would not order it again.

that being said, the ribs were delicious as was the sauce it came with.

the limeaide was also tasty, but a bit sour. i tasted a hint of mint but i could have had a bit more mint flavour.

st clair's smokehouse. i love it. the food is heavy. smoked meats, fabulous burgers and interesting twists on sandwiches. homemade limeade, wow!!
wonderful presentation everything is served up in cast iron pans.
when you don't feel like doing the whole "dinner out" thing this is a great place for good food on a casual night. a great addition to st. clair west.

a slice of good on a slab of wood!. mouth-watering smokehouse flavour invades your senses from the moment you walk in. we sat at counter & chatted with the cooks as they made our savoury sandwiches, served on a slab of wood! i had pulled chicken from heaven! just having opened, the engaging server made us coffee even though they weren't set up for it yet! fetch yer appetite and high-tail it on over to the stockyards!

best ribs in gta. i've been wanting to go there for quite a while well, the food is fabulous: the ribs are the bst in the gta - hands down. i also had a taste of the pastrami which was amazing, and the onion rings and cole slaw were also first rate. thisis essentially a take out place, so if you want t eat there be prepared to sit at a counter.
more: portions are huge and prices good: $13 for a large half rack - not some anemic baby backs, but huge spares - the real thing. note: i bbq myself, and make my own ribs and pulled pork, etc., so i know of what i speak. go there, take some home and enjoy.

great bbq. we have been on a bbq binge lately and stockyards meets the top standard. bit on the expensive side, but worth it. all fresh ingredients, the brisket was tender, had a great smoke ring and was a large sandwich. the fries are fresh cut, but a little on thin side (1/4") for my liking. once they cooled off they are crunchy. the big disappointment is the seating, virtually none, so we ended up taking it home.

you need to try it! plan on take out.

stockyards is smokin!. wow, it took me a while to make it to the stockyards, but man was it worth the wait!

the buttermilk fried chicken is sublime; most certainly in the top 5 of fried chicken i've tried (and it's something of a passion with me). service also amazing; friendly, quick, cute, etc.

i saw someone above whining about cost. the fried chicken is currently $13. four man-sized pieces, a mountain of fries, and awesome slaw. frankly, i would have paid more.

i look forward to trying the rest of the menu, especially the pastrami and ribs, however it'll be quite a while before i can move off the chicken...
