terrible noise from restoration project- this should be mentioned on the stables website
2 of the wines we ordered were not available
we all decided in pizza to then be told they were not on the menu, very poor response from staff when it was suggested they might have for-warned re menu and drinks
overall a poor experience

great food and great place to enjoy nature while you're having breakfast or lunch. i would recommend you to have the salmon fritters (which in the picture) and the moroccan lamb with couscous :)
let me know if you want to visit the place, so that i can join too ❤️

set in what i feel is one of the most beautiful inner city locations, the stables of como provides you with that really warm and welcoming feeling you usually get from being out in the country. it’s beautifully rustic and provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city...

high tea was more like no tea for mother’s day. firstly, they didn’t have our booking, then forgot our kids drinks (we never got them) and our tea (brought out when we had stood up to go home) & dry, tasteless excuses for high tea. over $200 for what was in this photo. over priced and underwhelmed. we left early and would not recommend. worst mother’s day meal in history! service was apologetic albeit a bit late.

average service. meals, drinks and serving sizes seem to have changed for the worst since my last visit. salmon was served without the side of cream fraiche and by the time it had arrived most of our party had finished their meals.

stables of como rumbled eggs with pancetta & truffle pecorino on griddled dr. marty's crumpets this brunch dish from stables of como is one of the best things i've eaten all year. these pictures are from a brunch we had quite a few months ago, and the menu does seem to change quite regularly, but luckily the rumbled eggs have stayed.

> corn + zucchini fritters with smoked salmon, smashed avocado + horseradish crème + poached egg <

the stables are always an incredible place for brunch or coffee. it is quiet and relaxing and i love the fresh produce garden because it really ties the whole experience together. the staff are very efficient and calm, which complement the atmosphere. these fritters are very large and super dense. there are corn chunks, which add to the overall texture of the meal. the smashed avo complements the fritters really well as they are both quite creamy. the smoked salmon is really fresh and gives a contrasting flavour to the dish. the poached egg popped over the top of the fritters just melts in perfectly and really enhances the flavour. the portion size of this meal is quite large so it will definitely keep you full until dinner!

we ordered the stables brekkie – poached free-range eggs, grilled bacon, fresh avocado, wilted baby spinach, confit cherry tomato on sourdough toast with added cured salmon ($25.90), smoked salmon bruschetta, dill cream fraiche, pickled fennel, avocado, crispy capers + frisee leaves ($17.90), twice cooked pork belly, fennel puree, pork croquette + apple salad ($21.90), hot banana cake with berries, mascarpone, caramelised banana + toasted coconut ($16.90), smashed avocado with marinated feta, chilli, avocado oil, baby basil + chard lemon on multigrain toast with a poached egg($19.00), several coffees ($3.50-$5.00) and a fresh strawberry milkshake ($7.50). what a massive order!! although we were all envious of the pork belly because it was so delicious and tender, we were all more than satisfied with our choices. my only criticism would be that my stables brekkie was a bit boring and lacking flavour compared to the other dishes. i would've preferred some added spices, chilli, lemon or even having smashed avocado rather than just half an avocado put on the side. the milkshake truly lived up to its "fresh" title, made with real strawberries.

came here the other week for something different. i had always wondered what was behind that white fence whilst driving past. little did i know it was a cute little area with delicious food!
we had to wait initially for about 20 minutes which was fine. we just looked around the area and sat in the garden. we opted for sitting inside as the weather didn't look all that crash hot. i'd have to say, it is a bit loud inside but cosy nonetheless.
i ordered the salad caprese and my fiance ordered the chicken pot pie.
food didn't take too long to come out. my salad caprese was lovely and fresh and best of all it was served with a generous serving of the buffalo mozzarella! delicious!
i tried a bit of my fiances chicken pot pie. the flavour was nice n comforting although i think it lacked a littlw bit of salt. over all not a bad dish.
would definitely be back. it looks like you can book for bigger groups so it would be nice to take my family here one morning!

set amongst the lush surrounds of the heritage-listed como house and gardens in south yarra, the stables of como brings a surprisingly relaxed, country-style space to one of inner-city melbourne’s poshest suburbs. the cafe itself occupies the old stables of the gardens; a light and airy, white-washed space that sprawls out into a plush green courtyard and manicured greens.

don't ever bother trying to book a function here. the cafe team are rude and very very unhelpful. the events organisers obviously don't care about customer service. three emails and no response. after calling the cafe to get some help all they could say was "were not associated with the events". there are a lot of cafe / function places in melbourne so you would think they would attempt to have good customer service. don't ever waste your time!!
