disgraceful arrival experience. having received a gift of a picnic for two, we arrived excitedly to gather our basket and head off to find a quiet, private corner. instead, we were greeted by an increasingly rude attendant who couldn’t find our booking, refused to check the system (initially) and claimed that the “burden of proof was on us” and a failure to provide evidence of payment (reminder: gift), would require us to leave. disgusting service culture.
eventually, the attendant checked his system and confirmed that, yes, we did in fact have a booking. simple, quick and would have avoided our stress and frustration, which set the tone for the remainder of the day.
we asked if we could remove our bottle of wine from the handle, to replace with two coffees. no refund requested, simple exchange. direct response: “of course, but you have to pay for them”.
on average, the food was mediocre in the hamper.comofried chicken was really tasty, but salad was covered in oil and quiche was inedible. recovered by the scones and cakes, which were great. $14 bottle of shiraz charged at $60. clever sales tactic, shocking reality.
the gardens are pretty and concept brilliant, let down by horrible service and cheap, poorly presented produce.
in all, a very expensive experience that doesn’t live up to expectations. perhaps at $35pp including wine would it make any semblance of sense. at $90pp this is a disgrace.
shame.
