looks can be deceiving and that is exactly what the stables of como is. a beautiful cafe with appalling service (in the worst way). also, if you’re planning to come here on a sunday, prepare for a 40 minute wait for yourfoodand them not warning you :-)
food: we ordered the french toast and the eggs royale. in terms of flavour, both dishes were done excellently in terms of flavour. the french toast was delicious and a reasonable portion, the coconuts were a great crunch and flavour addition to the soft and pillowy french toast. the eggs royale’s salmon and hollandaise was fabulous but unfortunately, the egg was well done :( and this was after a 40 minute wait so it was slightly disappointing but the flavours of both dishes were great.
service: appalling and horrendous to levels i cannot explain. first things first, we asked about our dishes status’s 2 times and were told that it was on its way but we weren’t aware it was going to be that long or even pre-warned. then we asked for butter and we had a server take our request and when she came back, she realised it didn’t come. and here’s the final kicker or what honestly made me feel.. disgusted and confused how someone with this kind of attitude could be hired. when we went to pay, a cashier or server called meg came and we showed our entertainer’s voucher and she snatched the phone from me and then slammed my phone on the counter. the eggs royale was $21 but the bill came to $25 and when we asked why the unusually unproportionate to menu price, she tried to argue with us that we ordered tomato sauce which we did not. we absolutely did not and she told us, in the rudest manner imaginable, that we were wrong and only when we said, we can ask every server who served us whether we had any tomato sauce did she let it go. then it was still $23 so we asked why is it $23 and she went on to tell us that there was a surcharge (to give a context - i saw the menu and i was telling my sister “oh look there’s only surcharge on public holidays! we’re lucky! spoiler alert - they had a surcharge) and my sister asked me whether there actually was a surcharge and this waitress goes on to say to me “there is a surcharge and i would definitely know because i work here” in a really aggressive manner which prodded us to just want to know why she is speaking to us so rudely which she cuts us off by yelling that it’s loud. oh, by the way, we told the manager and all she could say was “oh i’ll talk to her”
this cafe serves good food, long waits and awful service (and a surcharge for the service on sunday lmao). honestly, there’s so many better cafes in melbourne that could serve amazingfoodand amazing service while at it. i’d be more than willing to pay for service if the service was pleasant and not rude. too bad a cafe so beautiful is succumbed to a group of servers who can’t match up to
