pricey dinner, but lunch a bargain. the lunch special is a fantastic bargain for the best mexicanfoodin the ogden area. you get two entrees for 7 bucks are three entries for 9.
the chile verde is implemented very well. very flavorful. i also recommend asking for habanero salsa. it makes a great addition and flavoring to your meal.

i may have just been unlucky and walked into this place on a very off day. the service was friendly and attentive. some of thefoodwas exactly what i hoped for other parts were inedible. i ordered a combo plate and the pork was amazing. the chili relleno however had me throwing up later that night. i only ate a few bites of it before giving up and it was the only meal i had eaten away from home the entire day. if the service had not been so friendly i would likely have given a lower score.

my favorite mexicanfoodrestaurant. i first went to sonora last valentine's day, and i fell in love with the place immediately. very cool decor and professional/efficient staff. they have a terrific menu with lots of items you don't see too often at other mexicanfoodplaces. they have a nice alcohol menu that is not too expensive, and i love their chips and salsa appetizer. i was proud to take my family here when they visited me, and they ordered a wide variety of entrees which they still have not stopped talking about. their service is always terrific as is the food. order one of their specials and you will not be disappointed!

best utah mexican? no.. sonora grill isn't your average mexican restaurant. the experience and price point is similar to the chevys restaurant chain but the analogy is inexact. chevys is more about cheap drinks and the party atmosphere while sonora grill is more about tweaking the flavors and more southwest u.s. mexican than straight up mexican. even so, we left with the feeling that the menu descriptions were more promising than thefooditself.

this may be the best mexicanfoodin ogden for lack of competition but despite the hype it sure isn't the best mexicanfoodin utah. the best mexican in utah would probably be frida bistro in salt lake (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/54/1498362/restaurant/central/frida-bistro-salt-lake-city), which is in different league, the same league as cactus in seattle (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/1/1130/restaurant/madison-park/cactus-seattle).

note: sonora grill is flagged as romantic. at the right time it might be. but often there will be too many families and children offsetting the rather nice interior design.

ok.. i left this restaurant feeling rather indifferent. thefoodwas neither bad nor good. nice atmosphere, but nothing too special. the agua fresca was delicious, but as far as "authentic mexican" food, i'll go to the taco stand down the street.

best mexicanfoodin ogden, hands down. sure, this place is on the expensive side and as pretentious as it gets. some of the servers are downright snobs even. but, thefoodis some of the best mexican around. it's not the boring cheese, cheese and more cheese dishes you get everywhere else in utah. this is cooking with flavor. unique flavors you just won't find elsewhere in utah. all of those housemade salsas make my mouth water just thinking about them. and their chile relleno is easily the best i've ever had. two massive chiles covered and stuffed with the most delicious mexican white cheese. everything they serve here is fresh and delicious. now if only their table manner matched. at least the manager was very kind. i'm not sure why he hires such arrogant help.

we miss sonora grill. we recently moved to north carolina and my family misses sonora grill. it is by far the best mexican restaurant. thefoodis good and fresh. the servers are always nice and fast. my favorite thing on the menu is the carne asada tacos (get it with the green sauce) and the grilled corn on the cobb. whenever i go to sonora grill i have dreams about my leftovers and have to eat them for breakfast because i can't wait anymore. i hate that i live so far away and can't enjoy the wonderfulfoodand environment of this restaurant, as much as i want.

awesome beyond comparability. my husband and i had an occasion to celebrate recently so we decided to try something new and go to sonora grill. i had heard a lot about it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. thefoodwas the best mexican i've ever had. the atmosphere was a delight, and the service was perfect! i really enjoyed my experience and will be eating there many many more times in the future.

pretencious and good. it's probably the only place in ogden where you can find fresh mexicanfoodmade with quality chicken. however, it is inexcusably expensive.

medium please. i felt as though i knew my way around during my second visit to sonora grill. emboldened by two of their incredible margaritas, i ordered the mango habanero shrimp "dangerously hot." i could have had it "medium" or "hot" but, thinking this was based on the utah standard of heat, i felt comfortable going all out.

when that beautifully prepared dish arrived i took one sniff and realized that i was in way over my head. each bite was a treacherous expedition to new frontiers of pleasure and pain and it was, without a doubt, the hottest entrée i have ever had. i was able to eat it all - due in large part to strategically timed bites of my wife's seafood chile relleno (which was delicious) and a loaded corona - this despite my watering eyes and fiercely running nose.

if you like fine mexicanfood(and margaritas!) you cannot go wrong here. be forewarned that when it comes to heat they keep their word.

best mexican in ogden. my husband and i love mexican food, but have had a hard time finding a great mexican restaurant. we don't consider cafe rio or costa vida authentic mexican. . my husband actually lived in mexico for two years, so he is pretty picky about it. sonora grill is definitely the best mexicanfoodin northern utah. you can tell they use fresh ingredients, thefoodis great, the presentation is always nice and the atmosphere is awesome. their table side guacamole is to die for! we also enjoy tacos al pastor (my husbands favorite and we haven't found them anywhere else, we usually have to make them), and chile verde to name a few. make sure to get one of their desserts - all are yummy. you won't be disappointed!

good mexican in ogden?. i am from ogden. i grew up on the likes of el matador, javier's, fiesta mexican, etc. then i moved to san diego for some time and found out in old town what real mexicanfoodis all about. i've been back home for a while now and had heard a lot about the sonora grill at the junction. i heard things from "it's the best mexicanfoodin ogden hands down" to "it's ok, but way too expensive for what you get."

my friends and i decided to give it a try. my first impression walking in the door was good. it's like an "out of ogden" experience; upbeat, very big with modern mexican decor. the huge chips and colorful salsas were great. a nice selection of margaritas, something you don't find anywhere else in ogden. (that i know of) i had el hefe (the chief).. it lived up to the name. i would recommend a 1 1/2 oz pour as a standard instead of offering it as an upgrade (i mean it is a $9 margarita why not pour what the state now lets you?) anyway it was good.

we ordered the tableside guacamole, because apparently you have to... that's what i was told anyway. it was made right in front of us.. very fresh..very yummy. i will be using the recipe at home. i would go back just for the guac and margaritas.

for dinner i ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. they were served in soft warm corn tortillas (made on location, you can watch the young lady pressing them from your table) with a pineapple salsa over top. the avocado creme sauce on the side was a nice touch. the fish was tender and the tacos did not lack for flavor. i was impressed.

i have to admit sonora grill nailed what i would look for in old town san diego or anywhere for mexican food; and to think they are right here in ogden. i have def. found my local mexican restaurant of choice and highly recommend it, especially in comparison to what else ogden has to offer.
