the silver dollar

what service?. the first time i went to the silver dollar i loved it. it's located right down the street from my house and it's an historical building in the heart of clifton where i grew up so it was right up my ally. we ordered fries and onion rings, which were great.servicewas pretty decent that day. the 2nd time we went, we were seated right away and the hostess brought us glasses of water. 20 minutes later, we were still waiting for our server. workers kept walking past us, looking at us and walking away as if someone else was taking care of us. they were not. we ended up leaving and headed up the street to sol aztecas. boo, silver dollar, boo.

everything i have had had been at least good if not fabulous. my only complaint is that the wait staff gets a little overwhelmed and theservicewhile polite and courteous can be very slow and intermittent. last night i ordered a margarita, a water and a beet and pear salad. water and salad out in 10 minutes but the margarita was almost 15 minutes after that and no one checked in between. i have on other occasions asked for a check because i needed to leave and waited and asked repeatedly for 20 minutes. other than that great place.

great bar. fun atmosphere and great drinks. always had a great time, especially with a large group. avoid the food and sitting at a table. tableserviceand food are less than underwhelming.

perfect. my fiance and i went her for lunch one saturday and it was great. the food and drinks were great and theservicewas top notch.

fun and relaxing restaurant. it was hard to find much about the silver dollar that i didn't like. theservicewas helpful, friendly and attentive. their drink menu has scores of bourbon options as well as beer, wine and mixed drinks. the place is known for the bourbon selections, however.

the menu is fairly simple with a southern flair. there is something for pretty much everybody, however.

our group had onion rings and fried pickles for the appetizers. i'm not a fan of fried pickles, but they were good. the onion rings were lightly battered and had a great flavor.

the entrees came in large portions. two in our group had the chicken pot pie and one could probably have fed the entire table. they both enjoyed their meal and had plenty to take home with them. i had the brisket and it was excellent: very tender and tasted great.

if i had to say one negative it would be that we were seated near the door and every time someone came in or went out, we got hit with a blast of cold air...but that's just being picky.

it's a great place to go to enjoy a drink and a meal in a laid back atmosphere. i'll definitely go back.

great for date night. my experience at the silver dollar was amazing! theservicewas friendly, the drinks were refreshing (ladies, you must have the 'forever june!' its divine!) and the food was delicious. i had the pork sandwich and sweet potato fries... the dipping sauces were fun and the food was very satisfying... portions are big too... almost too big... but worth the price. the ambiance was a great place for a date and i look forward to going back.

trendy but tasty. decided to try this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. theservicestaff was friendly as well as helpful. i ordered the fried oyster sandwich with sweet potato fries at my bartender's suggestion and loved it. filling, fried crispy and not too oily. i definitely suggest trying it with a side of their habenero sauce, i'll be going back myself to try the rest of their menu.

i came in for brunch during a weekend visit based on a recommendation from the chef at proof. i enjoyed the honky tonk atmosphere. not crowded at 1: 00 this saturday (probably because everyone is at "thunder"). i got the cornbread pancakes & hashbrowns with homemade ketchup. the food was delicious, & theservicewas impeccable.

since this is right around the corner from my house i like to take advantage if its proximity. there isn't much after 10pm. the food here has always been amazing. the wedge salad, black bean soup, pulled pork, and brisket are mouth watering! it's just always a hassle getting the food. i will say i've never eaten here. always carry out. i wouldn't want to either. there seems to be more concern with "cool" music, gossip, and drinking than actually trying to serve people food. i've never felt as though my business was wanted there. i've also never had an accurate order whether i called or walked in. if i didn't live two blocks away i wouldn't eat here once or twice a month. on the other hand the food is good so kudos to the chef but the front of the house downgrades this place.

sunday breakfast. maybe we just caught them on an off day or maybe a couple of servers called in sick, but we visited on a sunday at 11:00am and theservicewas terrible and the food overpriced and just okay. the shrimp grits were passable, but not worth the 14 dollar cost. we had to ask three different people for a coffee refill (which we never got). i paid $3 for about 4oz of coffee. i won't be going back. so the total bill was $40 for a meager breakfast--- and very little coffee.

who doesn't have catchup?. this place was bad. we go with a group of 8. no tv! no catchup, no cranberry for a vodka cranberry, they make their own juices! ugh!!!servicewas terrible. they wine list were some awful wine that apparently the the chef gets a local deal on. i ordered the chicken and waffles. the chicken was a kids portion and they actually didn't serve the whole waffle. there was maybe $1.50 worth of food and they charged me $18. dont ask for catchup for your fries. the dont have it. they have something terrible they make. they were 0-8 with our group. no one said they would go back.

meh. my friends raved about this place.servicewas better than indicated in other reviews. food was okay. the fries were fresh and hot (burned my mouth), but the chicken i ordered was cold. took forever for the food to come out, too. my husband got a burger and fries -- it was the most we've ever spent on a burger and fries! the one good part of the visit was the chocolate chip pecan pie. it was extremely delicious. if i go back, which my husband doesn't want to, it will only be for dessert!

granted ive only been here late at night, but i find theserviceslow and drinks overpriced. ironically, best onion rings in town.

the food was good but, oh my gosh, theserviceat the bar was awful!!! even before it began getting busy, i felt completely ignored. the staff all congregated at one end of the bar completing oblivious to the needs of customers. too bad because the food was good but theservicetotally turned me off to the place.

flawless!!! (on a monday). i went with a group of family to celebrate my sis in laws b-day. after reading some of the negative reviews i was braced for the worst....and my fears were unfounded. our server was on top of his game.....other staff would 'fill in' and replenish drinks when he was busy with other patrons. the food was.....wow!! out of a group of ten, everyone was pleased with their selection.

i do think that the layout of the converted fire station presents some challenges to the servers and bartenders. this was a monday and it was busy but not 'slammed'. you can see where the juxtaposition of the (really nice) bar to the dinning area would makeserviceflow difficult on busy nights. the server stations are in cramped corners that can barely accommodate two average sized staff members....so that has to interrupt flows on a busy evening.
