ugh. if you enjoy the frozen hamburger meat from kroger or a fried mass of overcooked liver that hae no flavor served with overdone greasy fries along with a 1/2 size glass for your $5.00 beer then this is the place for you.
does the couier journal get paid to give lousy resturants 3 1/2 stars? 5 thumbs down.

stomach full of yum. ive been to the silver dollar a couple times now and it has always been fantastic! the atmosphere is fun and funky and the food is amazing. i would recommend the spare ribs, the mac and cheese, fried ocra, and my last meal there, chicken and a waffle. be prepared for huge portions. they have a pretty nice drink menu with a good number of affordable options as well. my only gripe is that they don't offer options with sides included. i would happily trade some of the plate full of meat for a side or two included. my suggestion is to bring a group and share several meats and sides. go to the silver dollar hungry and expect a treat!

my girlfriend and i had been dying to try this (supposedly) great new place right down the block from our home. we tried to get in on a friday night around 9:30 (hour & a half wait...no, thanks!), but got in right away on the following tuesday night. service was average. food was awful. i had the veggie burger with a side of sweet potato fries (which were extra...no substitutions allowed). the fries were decent, kinda hard to screw those up. the burger was a mushy, textureless mess. it was nothing but a soft, clearly microwaved patty of black beans. i like black beans just as much as the next guy but when i order a veggie burger, i expect the patty to be made with several vegetables. my girlfriend had the beef empanadas. she described the beef as tasting re-hydrated. maybe we ordered the wrong things but i don't feel like i should have to pay upwards of $15 for decent bar food. we definitely won't be back.

we used to really like this place, but the service has gone to crap. a 45 minute wait for two bowls of chili is a joke. waiting 20 minutes after being seated to have someone take a drink order is worse.

maybe the staff should spend less time hanging out at the end of the bar and more time attending to customers. we won't be back.

dits8276@bellsouth.net. 3 of us ordered the 21$ red fish special .if we had put it all together one one plate it would have been an adequate amount. it was mediocre and not nearly enough. service was very poor .waiter disappeared for lengthy periods. it was loud but good food and service would rule ,may try again will not order over priced specials though.

great food,but service is under par. since opening my husband and i have eaten here several times and what keeps us coming back is the flavorful food. however every time we get a server that doesn't understand the basics of waiting on a table. one time my chips were burnt. i told the server and she said they are supposed to be that color. i knew this because i had them before, however the previous time they didn't taste burnt. she didn't offer to replace them, she just walked off. the most recent time our server never asked if we wanted another cocktail because she wasn't at our table for at least 15 minutes to even notice they were empty. when she finally came to our table again she brought our check and never asked if er needed anything else.that was at least another $20 the restaurant could have made if the server followed serving 101. again we love the food so we will be back, but the servers need better training or the buzz about this place won't last long.

i have been here 3-4 times, a few to have drinks and some to eat. i love the food here and havent once had anything bad. their bar snacks are well-priced and yummy. the beer is also well priced with a great selection. i had the braised short rib last time and it was absolutely delicious. we've also had really great service. i'm not sure how others have had such negative experiences, i love this place and return often.

over-rated. my girlfriend and i are adventurous diners and were looking forward to louisville's newest hot spot. the courier reviewed the place for great empanadas. very disappointing for anybody that knows what one should taste like. the meat was pureed and the crust was bland... better at havana rumba. the short rib entree was tough and flavorless. the only highlights of the meal came from the fried oysters.
the food, combined with the long wait, was definitely not worth the hype.

comfort food. the largest bone-in maple syrup drenched, crispy piece of juicy chicken you can throw an adjective at. on a waffle. but please owners michael rubel, shawn cantley, and larry rice (formerly of 732 social). can i get a few extra waffle pieces on the plate? also good: the mac and cheese.

the silver dollar has a strong start with a unique theme, great food, and rather high pricing. i can’t wait to visit this place again for a drink. i will visit, hopefully once the chaos has died down a bit, but i don’t know if i can wait that long for my next gold rush.

fun and yummy!. i have been twice...very noisy but did not mind...great atmosphere, food and concept. i had the shrimp, empanadas and the oyster sandwich. all food good. the oysters were the best i have had since new orleans. much better than doc crow's!!

annoyed. we were told that the restaurant was wonderful. my family and i found our food disappointing. my daughters hash browns came out completely black, which no chef should let leave the kitchen. overall it was very disappointing and needs improvement. also our spare ribs were full of fat and the meat was very tough and chewy, if you could get it off the bone. the fried fish was flavorless.

a disappointment!. after the (puffed) review in the cj we took 8 for a birthday dinner. our server was terrible, the clatter and noise level made conversation impossible, the extensive beer list had no non-alcoholic beers for two non-drinkers in our group, some menu choices were unavailable at 6:15 and the food was unexceptional except for the romaine salad and the molletes. by the time we ordered sides for our empty entree plates the total was astonishing. spend your money elsewhere unless you're just looking for a drink and a bar snack.
