the senate sports tavern and eatery

first time, it won't be the last.. i had to show a friend around town and we decided to eat somewhere in the market in the evening and the senate was definitely the right choice!

the staff were great, especially over the phone when i called in to make a reservation.

but the most impressive part about the senate is its perfect combination of atmosphere and food. my friend and i love how cozy theplacefelt, a perfect balance between privacy and openness (especially for game nights). i ordered the turducken sandwich and it was delicious. perfect seasoning, nice texture and generous portion size. the fries were perfect as well, not too salty. my friend ordered the pea-nut butter & bacon with apple slaw and she really enjoyed it. an eye-opening combination for people who have been shy to try something new.

overall, i am very pleased with the food and atmosphere of the senate. with its friendly staff, delicious food and generous portion size (for a very reasonable price), i will gladly bring all of my friends here.

i have eaten at thisplacetwice and very pleased with the food i ate. i first ordered the buffalo chicken wraps, which i very very spicy, a little too much for me to handle. the second time i got the bbq burger which was a great choice too

this is my favourite spot to watch a game in ottawa. not as busy or overpriced as real sports. as a jays fan, i love the fact that they play all the jays games and many of the patrons are regulars and true blue fans. the food is decent for pub fare and the prices are modest. my only complaint is that it's a little small and the set-up is not conducive to large crowds which can make watching a big game problematic if theplacegets busy. i suggest coming in early if there's a hot game on.

beware of false advertising. we were drawn into thisplaceby a sign in front of the restaurant advertising 1/2 price nachos during the canada world junior hockey game. we went in and ordered the nachos and drinks. when the bill came it had the nachos for full price (14+ tax). when we asked about the 1/2 price nachos the waitress told us that the owner changed his mind, but when we left the sign was still out front advertising 1/2 price nachos. disappointing that they use this type of false advertising to lure people. beware.

i moved to ottawa about a year ago and live close to the market. i regret not finding thisplacesooner. i've visited a lot of the pubs in the area and this one is at the top of my list. the decor is warm and inviting, the service is incredible and the food is much much much better than the standard pub fair. you can tell they take pride in their menu. the coca cola candied ribs are a must try. can't wait to take a crack at the turducken !!
will be giving them all my business going forward

extremely impressed. i flew into ottawa from halifax on monday around supper with 2 other co-workers, and we decided to check out the market for a goodplaceto eat. we were quite happy to stumble upon this very, very clean and great looking sports bar.

we found right away that the service was amazing with smiles from every waitress and we were quickly greeted and served very tasty beers (beau's on tap...say no more!). we ordered our food, which came to us quickly. meanwhile, we were able to take in 3-4 different hockey games on the very well positioned flat screen tvs. i ordered tequile pulled pork, and it was amazing.

eventhough we were only going to be in the city for two nights for work, the second night we didn't even have to think about it and went right back to the senate! again, we had a repeat of the night before with everything being terrific. i switched it up and went for the reuben sierra and was not disappointed. awesome experience, and will be back for sure again, and again....and again!

a real sports bar. the best sports bar in ottawa. if you are a sens fan, this is theplaceto go.

great location, nice place, gorgeous waitresses, very good service, many good beers, very good food in big plates. and if you want to watch a sens game, that's definitely theplaceto go. enjoy it! and best luck to the owners!

warm, friendly and fun.. i’ve been twice with a group of friends and had a great time the service was fast and the food is very good and the beer is cold. it’s a greatplaceto go to watch a game. their prices are very reasonable for a downtown pub. i’ll definitely be going back soon and telling my friends to check it out.

check thisplaceout. i must say, what a great overall experience. the food, staff, atmosphere, everything was terrific. only thing missing was hockey, but i don't think thisplaceneeds it. i ate the rueben, it melts in your mouth. our server, katie told me, "it isn't even our most popular sandwich!", i beg to differ. my wife had the quinoa salad, which she said, "was delicious and was a nice change of pace for a sports bar." i have a new sports hangout, and my wife doesn't mind joining me, best of both worlds. aplaceworth checking out.

a great find!. i recently went to the senate for lunch with some friends from out of town and thanks to the recommendations from our server we tried some items that are normally out of our comfort zones and it turned out to be an amazing lunch, so good in fact that after we finished our afternoon of shopping we returned for dinner!
i had the grilled cheese with grilled apples and candied (i think they were candied...) walnuts for lunch and peanut butter bacon burger for dinner.
definitely aplacei will be returning to again and again.
