while in pyrmont i capitalized on proximity and went in to visit @theqonharris for lunch before the summer rains hit.

classic cheeseburger: house made beef patty, cheddar cheese, caramelized onion, tomato and lettuce. plus i added crispy bacon and a fried egg 🍔

i can't believe theyre considering taking this off the menu 😲 great little cafe, and a choice between thick cut or crispy bacon! why not both even lol. thanks @clairemcpherson.cpm for the invite - great working with you ✌

an innovative cafe on harris st across from the powerhouse museum. the cafè has a trendy interior with a indoor seating and a courtyard out the back. there is an onsite coffee roaster and grinder with the owner importing his own beans from sulawesi and java in indonesia which make for very nice coffee. they were playing a relaxed music selection ideal for the brunch setting.

breakfast is the most important meal of the day and upon entering the q on harris, we knew they felt this way too. the first thing we noticed was the coffee roaster that commands the room in this deceivingly large breakfast spot. it has a very relaxed and friendly vibe which made us feel comfortable and welcome as soon as we had stepped inside the door.

benji salim is hoping to bring indonesian coffee into the limelight in australia. at the q on harris, he roasts the green coffee beans he imported from indonesia. the q is also home to a cozy cafe serving an all-day menu. benji imports single-origin green beans from various parts of indonesia, working directly with the farmers to show off the coffee of each origin.

in house roasted coffee and an all day breakfast and lunch menu is what you will find at q on harris.

the inside is decorated with white and yellow subway tile which is bright and airy. our suggestions though however is to sit outside which felt like a peaceful oasis.

the big breakfast is one of the best value meals we have found - $19 will you get eggs (your choice), maple bacon, tomato, mushrooms, avocado, spinach, toast and your choice of extra protein including pastrami, haloumi, chicken or salmon. if however, you are looking for something different then the korean style veggie bowl is the go on this menu. packed with a fried egg, kimchi, pickled radish & bamboo, shiitake mushroom, spinach, carrot, bean sprouts and seaweed, you will not leave hungry. topped with spicy sauce and rice this dish is filling and delicious.

the coffee here is something to come back for. it is an indonesian roast which is creamy and something which you will not find in many places in sydney. the staff here are friendly and the menu has plenty of options to keep you coming back. on the way out you can’t go past the baked goods - you can’t!!! we were treated to a brand new creation from the chef. a matcha new york style cheese cake with green tea gnache and oreo base - wow!!! the atmosphere, food and staff will mean q on harris could easily become a regular chill spot

always friendly and happy staff. now roasting their own coffee and have batch brew and cold drip selections. can get busy at 10:30am during class break times from the nearby academy.  the food while a bit pricey is always good, try the rueben sandwich if it's still on the menu.

best in ultimo. i'm a regular and just love it. my friends travel from mosman for our weekly breakfast and it's one of their favorite cafes too.
great atmosphere, always spotlessly clean, the food is top quality and inventive, the coffees are the best in ultimo and pyrmont. love the breakfast rolls and "seasonal expressions" - always yummy. the staff are always cheerful and attentive. highly recommend - eat in or takeaway.

frequent customer. i very much like the q and the atmosphere it has. i often will relax in the well lit dining area on my laptop and enjoy a range of coffees and sandwich available.

for me it was the feedback i was able to give on the way i like my coffee, as well as them offering me to try new blends or what is available. for me this is great, because there is always something new to have as a pour over.

benji the owner even gave me a quick lesson on making my own pour over, as well as making all the bits i needed available for purchase.

if they have the chicken with caramalized onion & avocado sandwich available give it a try :)

really amateur. i've been back to this cafe (because it's in my immediate neighbourhood) a number of times, each time with the intention of giving it another chance and in an effort to support a new local business. however, i've got to say that despite once having had a 'satisfactory' breakfast (and that's being very generous!), this cafe has numerous problems and so i won't be going back.

here are a few of the problems i feel make a visit to this coffee shop a waste of time and money:

- you are never asked if you want single origin coffee or a blend (the choice is arbitrarily made for you by the barista);
- there is no sugar available on any of the tables or at the counter (instead, you are served a 'syrup' which is absolutely revolting);
- the breakfast menu is comprised of 4 or 5 very basic choices, none of which the 'chef' appears to be able to make with any consistency (warning: i have been served raw poached eggs here!);
- there are no salt or pepper cellars on any of the tables or at the counter. consequently, you have no say in whether your food is seasoned or not (and every breakfast coming out of the kitchen is heavily seasoned with salt and pepper) and on at least one occasion i was unable to complete my breakfast because of the sheer amount of garlic salt garnishing my scrambled eggs (which were notable for their overpowering taste);
- bacon and eggs is garnished with a bitter vinaigrette dressing (again, you are not asked whether you want this or not and there is no mention of it on the menu);
- after a very lengthy wait (usually about 20 minutes on average) food coming out of the kitchen is often cold;
- 'toast' is frequently not toasted (on all but one visit i have been served an untoasted piece of sliced sourdough);

the bottom line here is that these are some very young guys trying to do something unique (which is laudable) but they are too interested in being 'trendy' to be good at what they do. the 'chef', in particular, seems especially inexperienced and despite saying he appreciates feedback, is clearly full of excuses and unable to act upon it. it's often said that you can tell something significant about a chef by his/her ability to poach an egg and if that is the case, then this cafe needs to find a replacement. fast!
