versatility is a double-edged sword– execute well, you are demonstrably multi-talented; execute poorly, you obviously bite off more than you can chew. at a first glance, the menu of the q on harris is ambitious to say the least: southern american-style fried chicken on waffles, korean-style vegie bibimbap, japanese-style teriyaki rice bowl, and french-style smoked salmon tartine. is there any cuisine that q won’t dare to attempt?

lovely cafe serving great brunch food with a japanese twist. their matcha cheesecake is to die for - smooth, intense and goes perfectly with their buttery oreo biscuit base.

today's brunch venue of choice was a place that's been on my list for a while, and after seeing so many grams of the famous matcha cheesecake, i was excited to check it out!

the q on harris sits on a nice little corner, and inside has an almost european feel as the sun streams in the windows. this place like to diy, they smoke their own meats, roast their own coffee and make their own cold drip.

the menu has a cool asian twist on brunch which is a refreshing change from the avo on toast norm! instead they have a range of tartines, as well as classic faves like bircher and bacon and egg sangas. but we opt for the more unique choices.

1. kabuki waffle - fried chicken, honey lime dressing, cabbage slaw, wasabi mayo. i'm not usually a huge fan of chicken and waffles but as one of their signature dishes i had to try, and i'm glad i did. omg the chicken!!! cooked to perfection and the flavours just pop!!! went down so well with the waffles and the freshness of the slaw.

2. smoked pastrami sandwich - pickled cabbage and cucumber, dill, swiss cheese, dijon mustard on sourdough. we also added haloumi coz i'm obsessed! this one is a tasty towering monster. the thing i couldn't get over is the caramelisation on the bread where the cheese was dripping out. omg i live for this, it just made the whole sandwich. the pastrami was smokey, and the cheese ratio so on point.

dessert time! yassss! as soon as you walk in you spy the glass cabinet lined with desserts and get immediately excited!

3. matcha cheesecake - i'm going to make a confession, please don't hurt me. i'm not a matcha fan. i've tried so hard but my tastebuds refuse to keep up with the matcha trend. luckily my dining companion is matcha crazy, and highly rated this insta famous dessert. oreo cookie base, and the smoothest, greenest cheesy cake.

4. chocolate caramel tart - now this is my jam people! omg you could almost see your reflection in the chocolate glaze!!! the pastry was thin and delicious, the chocolate and caramel so smooth and rich, and inside there's a treat! popping candy! i demolished the entire thing.

overall a delicious brunch here this morning! the service is a little slow, so if you're in a rush save this one for another day perhaps. but if you've got time to enjoy a leisurely brunch (and dessert!) in the sun, then this is the spot for you! thanks to the lovely staff for looking after us, can't wait to come back and try the other menu items! that mushroom tartine is calling!

great little cafe with an asian/american twist. it has japanese, korean & american influences to the menu which make it fun & interesting compared to the usual cafes around this area. it wasn't too busy when we arrived and managed to get the bench with the coffee drip on the table.

the outdoors section although it looked nice was a tad bit too warm to be sitting out there comfortably due to the weather.

ordered the avocado & kalamata olive tartine, my partner enjoyed this dish. they also slice the sourdough so it is easier to cut without destroying the dish and making it look messy. i ordered the kabuki waffle - chicken was nice and crisy although coated with the honey dressing. the waffle could have been cooked slightly more but it might have made it look more brown. it had a good amount of crunch as you cut it and bite into it.

a few tips - i was not aware it was a spicy waffle, it would be good to mention this on the menu (i couldn't eat too much of it as it was too spicy for me) & have a little pot of the honey lime dressing to put on the waffle. i don't think they served the wasabi mayo with the dish, it just looked and tasted like normal mayo (japanese style) - which i don't mind but would've been nice to try with the dish as advertised.

ordered a cap & iced coffee, both were good.

we shared a double matcha cake after our meals, this cake is amazing and a must try if you love matcha (green tea). we unfortunately could not finish all of it as we were full but am glad we tried it out. i would definitely come back for this.

service was a bit non existent at times but was able to flag down someone to bring our matcha cake and more waters after our meals.

it is a cute little cafe which isn't too busy and is relaxing, only thing i would say is the tables are a bit close to eachother so if you have people that talk loud next to you it can get a bit annoying.

matcha ninja!!

the matcha cheese cake was my lure to this place but surprisingly the food here were good. apparently they have a new chef and he is doing an amazing job!!

top favourite is of course the matcha cheese cake, waffle and fried chicken and surprisingly the bibimbap which was vegetarian friendly and has good taste.

well worth the visit and cant wait to see what else he can make, also the best thing is that they try to make everything in house. from smoking their meat which takes about 5 days to making their own cakes, 80% of the things in this cafe is hand made.

until next time .... keep eating!!!

due to most of sydney being booked out for the night i needed to be there, i ended up staying in ultimo. rather than facing the hotel breakfast i wandered down to this funky cafe that i saw the night before. thank god i did. the staff greeted you warmly and upon taking my order, which i wanted to deviate from the menu she promptly checked with the cook. it was no trouble and the cook came out to ensure that he received the changes correctly.
breakfast was delicious. the eggs were just how i asked, the bacon with maple syrup was crispy, sweet and salty and the mushrooms perfect.
now to the coffee- divine. my piccolo latte was perfect (both of them) but i also had the pleasure of watching the barista training a new person. he went well beyond just showing her the machine. he was teaching her about balance, acidity, what difference the length of extraction has etc. if i am ever in the vicinity again, i will definitely be back!!

hidden away near the powerhouse museum is the unassuming the q on harris, a gem of a cafe that also roasts their own indonesian coffee beans on site. popular with uts students since the university’s many city campuses are nearby, the q on harris is a modern cafe which serves up a range of classics as well as some more interesting japanese fusion dishes.

japanese inspired cafe with some amazing food . we tried the healthy salmon tartine aka open sandwich which had some lovely house smoked salmon with toppings of fennel, cucumber, pine nuts & dill which was perfect with the extra tanginess of lime.
the kabuki waffles had perfectly done crispy fried chicken which was an absolute delight to have. we ended our meal with the oreo matcha cheese cake which just melted in our mouth . in all it was a very pleasant experience & would definitely recommend this place.

q on harris prides itself on authentic indonesian coffee and cafe food with a japanese twist. their food is generally more affordable than normal cafes in sydney, and is suitable for uni kids too, where uts is just right around the corner and usyd is nearby too. for dessert, their homemade matcha cheesecake was delicious, the perfect way to end our meal.

groovy asian fusion eatery the q on harris should be a priority on all brunch to do lists.

the salmon tartine was exquisite. i am a die hard smoked salmon fan but this was really something special. smoked in house and you can definitely taste the difference. its light, fresh and melt in you mouth delicious. the delicate toppings work together perfectly and that dill cream is spectacular. this is a really moreish dish and, although appearing small on the plate, is definitely filling (but the good sort of filling, the brunch sort of filling).

the japanese inspired take on fried chicken normally comes on top of the kabuki waffle (the go to dish at q, our waiter informed us) but served a fantastic accompaniment to eggs. the flavour combinations in the honey and lime coating are spot on – the perfect balance of salty, sweet and a little bit of a spicy kick.

it’s a lovely set up at the harris street location. sit indoors or in the beautiful outdoor setting to enjoy the sunlight. ample on street parking is a definite plus.

i had such an enjoyable experience at the q on harris. the courtyard is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the delicious food that's on offer. the chicken waffles were fried with maple syrup and served with a punchy wasabi mayo. we also tried the mochi muesli which is a great alternative to a classic bircher muesli. an absolute must is the matcha cheesecake. it's a classic style cheesecake topped with matcha cheesecake and oreo base. it's indulgent and definitely to be shared but it is so creamy. would go back any day for that cheesecake.

this cafe is located in ultimo near the power house museum. as you walk in you are welcomed by the friendly staff. i love the ambience here. it feels very relaxing, airy and has different seating options inside and outside in the courtyard. this place roasts their own coffee beans sourced direct from local farmers in indonesia. another unique thing we were informed about from the staff, is the fact that they smoke premium meats in house. i will need to try these on my next visit. the highlight for me is the honest food they serve made with love and the unpretentious atmosphere. coffee and food are great. #saksrecommends

we were kindly invited to the q on harris on the weekend. a friendly korean fusion cafe approximately 10 mins walking distance from central station.

i had the veggie bowl (bibimbap) it was extremely filling and an array of vegetable topping. the rice i had in my veggie bowl was fresh and cooked well. just fyi - the red sauce to be mixed into your veggie bowl is quite spicy. it was quite similar to the bibimbaps ive had previously. i think the price of the veggie bowl is slightly higher than what i would usually pay for my bibimbaps, from.memory it was close to 20$ but since we didnt pay for our meal its difficult for us to form an opinion. but you know what, we are on a budget so in all honesty, we probably would not pay more than $15 for a bibimbap. nonetheless it was still a good vegetarian dish.

sam had the salmon tartine, he said it was a fresssssh light meal. he loved every elements of it and recommende this for those who are looking for a light healthy lunch.

for drinks sam had juice and i had a chocolate milkshake and it was pretty big!!! very very satisfying!!!

we couldnt leave without having their signature matcha cheesecake. this is the best matcha cheesecake i have had thus far, it has a layer of citrus ganach and an oreo base, definitely a highlight.

as for the rating, we were a bit conflicted, i wanted to give a 3.5 and sam wanted to give a 4.5... at the end of the day, food was decent, chef was very friendly and we had a good time.. so we shook hands and settled on a 4. would we spend our own money here? yes will be coming back for the matcha cheesecake.
