one of the best meals i have had in great britain. we hadn't booked but they happily fit us in for a quick dinner on a table booked for a little later.
we ordered the scallops to share, and a pot of their 1 kg mussels with whisky, cream and bacon and some bread to mop it up, plus the 3 extra big prawns on top. this was plenty of food, we walked away satisfied. thefoodwas amazing, particular the mussels- big, juicy mussels in a delicious sauce which was mopped up with crusty bread. great comfortfood!!

one of my favourite places in edinburgh to come for lunch as the lunch is served until 5pm from fri-sun. so you can have a lazy day and always pop in for a nice meal. the staff is very friendly. they remember your face and always treat you like a friend. the place is busy most of the times but you can usually be seated without booking. during summer they have an outside seating which is great as grass market is well guarded from the wind. so you can sit there for hours enjoying thefoodand drinks. their seafood is my favourite, especially the mussels. while i tried the steak many times i think it's good but sometimes they could pay more attention to how you want it to be cooked. it happened to me twice that it was medium or medium well instead of medium rare which i then decided to return and they had no problem giving me a new steak. the second time it always came right. i also enjoy the starters. the brie tart  with cranberries is a delicacy while the soup of the day is always  home made and fresh. overall i recommend this place if you want to have a lazy lunch and spend at least an hour enjoying your meal.

going to scotland i was hoping to try some scottish cuisine - arbroath smokies, neeps and tatties, cock-a-leekie...but not haggis! i didn't get the chance to try any of these, but we did have a very enjoyable experience at the mussel and steak bar. a few colleagues at work mentioned that this was the place to go for greatfood- certainly when you google the msb there are consistent rave reviews. the exterior has a nautical feel to it, while the interior is modern but nothing too fancy or contrived. for entrees, i had the queen scallops with gremolata. i was quite sure the menu said that the scallops would be wrapped in pancetta, but what was presented didn't have them. it was no matter, as i find that bacon/pancetta overpowers the delicate flavour of scallops. instead, a very crispy parmesan cheese and parsley gremolata kept the fresh scallops juicy. the lawyer had the very morish duck liver pate with shallot jam. the pate was rich and had a wonderful mouth feel. the crunchy toast and
