poor service, good food. came here for brunch on saturday around 12:30pm with a friend and it was some of the worst service i've ever received in a restaurant. i arrived first and was only given one menu, but when i asked for a second, the waitress disappeared and didn't return for a solid 15 minutes, by which point my friend and i had just shared the one menu. same goes for drinks; we ordered glasses of water which took over 10 minutes to come. from what i could tell, it was only myself and my friend plus another couple dining so i'm not sure what the holdup was. i could see the two waitresses chatting behind the counter the entiretimewhich was frustrating when we had to wait so long for everything. the waitress didn't even come back to check on us after we got out food which was frustrating because my friend wanted some ketchup.

luckily the food was good or else it would have been a complete waste of time. i had the morrissey eggs benedict and they were good. the hollandaise sauce was very tart, which was different but still good. the homefries were tasty and my dish came with a ton. my friend got the skillet with chorizo sausage and hers were literally amazing so i'd probably go for that one if i were to ever go back.

secondtimehere.  firsttimereviewing.

finding a place to park around here can be a bit of a challenge, but if you can get in the lot directly to the west, it will only set you back $4.  a bargain by london standards.

the restaurant is set in a turn of the century house.  decor still has some of the original millwork and fireplaces.  it can get a bit crampt, and loud (depending on the crowds) but overall is clean and pleasant.

the food is delicious, reasonably priced, and of good proportions.  the schnitzel is about the best i've had.  2 giant pieces, tender, and lightly battered (not oily).  the ribs are fall off the bone.  although not the best ribs i have had, they are very good.  homemade side potato salad was excellent.

then there is the beer.  there are 18 beers on tap.  15 of them are ontario craft beers, 2 are ontario craft ciders, and the other being guinness.  great variety that is constantly being changed.  decently priced too.

overall this place has it all.  great food.  great beer.  large proportions at a decent price.  if you can't enjoy eating here, you cannot be pleased.

came here after a finance exam (which was horrible) and it was the perfect pick me up. i got the curried chicken salad wrap, which was extremely filling and very generous in portion. though i'm not a fan of mayo, the mayo here was quite low key, which i loved. the curry, however, was mostly on the sweet side - though i loved the almond bits within. the carrot ginger soup was absolutely delicious... very creamy and the slight spice was an amazing kick.
my friends loved their meals too, and we had a greattimetogether.

one of the first patio days we moved from the patio inside because of wind. our server was fantastic and very accommodating. we ordered two way shrimp to start which was devoured quickly. 3 sandwiches which were amazing and then the twix pie which was the best dessert i've had in this city along with the carmel crunch gelato. channing, our server was very warm and efficient. i can't wait to come back and tell all my friends the greattimei had. thank you for the experience!

gave it another shot....still pretty lacklustre sadly. gave it another shot....still lacklustre!

after a few years of saying no i decided, after reviewing the new menu and beer selection, that another try was warranted-a big mistake.

- no parking. an issue almost anywhere near the core in london but it is especially expensive and sparse in this area it seems. the pay parking rates are now $10 if you want enoughtimeto sit and have a relaxed meal without fear of a ticket so be ready for that.

- menu/food. i was excited to see gone is the same tired old pub menu, replace by decent appetizers and mains which was nice to see but failed to impress. my girlfriend made the mistake of trying the lamb vindaloo. yes, its a pub but that doesn't mean they can't make a decent indian dish right? wrong. all the pieces for a great vindaloo were there: loads of lamb, vegetables, potatoes, spices and naan bread but....no sauce. sauce, the essence and entire point of this dish and it was dry!!

- service. service was pretty base model but what was really the kicker is that when we mentioned(politely, in a conversational tone) "this is good but really dry unfortunately." the server answered "well you should have ordered more sauce" seriously?! before i could even answer that she then added "this is more of an 'americanized' vindaloo" what is an "americanized vindaloo"?! we weren't looking for a freebie or an apology we just wanted to give a little feedback but what a gong show.

in conclusion, there are far better places with a better menu and prices that offer the same range in local beers to tempt your palate. due to the hotel trade this place will always have a firsttimecustomer base but as for recurring visitors i for one will not be bothering.

a little effort and courtesy go a long way.....

my favourite place to eat!. since my girlfriend and i moved to the downtown area, morrissey house has quickly become our favourite spot to go eat cheap. we're both students and can't afford much but morrissey's prices are spot on. i love the fish and chips, everytimei've ordered them they were perfect; and the fries, my god the fries! i'm not sure what they put in their fries to season them but they are amazing!
the staff is always super nice and cool. i love how the atmosphere is so chilled out and i always feel like the staff really enjoy their work. the atmosphere is definitely one of the main reasons (besides the food, of course) that we keep coming back. we always feel comfortable at morrissey's, never rushed, never feel like the staff is trying to get us out the door or rush our dinner along, none of that. it feels like a home away from home that i can get some good food or some beers with the mates and watch the match. can't wait for rugby season to start!!

synthetic. not too bad at first, a few employees politely greeted myself and a few friends as they passed us near the entrance to serve their customers. we waited about 5 minutes before someone finally decided to take us to a table - wasn't busy at all.

another 10 minutes before we received our menus. waitress seemed impatient and cranky and i felt uncomfortable eachtimeshe would come to take plates, or when she would ask how it was, as it was very inauthentic.

another 10 minutes later, she came back to ask if we were ready to order. i had the fish and chips. let me tell you, it was the worst thing i have ever had to eat in my entire life. it was something like eating deep fried bread. fries were dry and nearly burned. very greasy and tasteless dish overall.

clearly an amateur kitchen all the way. fish and chips are a simple dish, and this was terrible.

dirty cutlery - good thing i could use my hands for what i did eat. plates had some food or something on the bottom of them as they were clearly not cleaned properly. though i did not notice this until i was finished.

i was pretty damn unimpressed overall and will not go back. and that's only my review. i'll let my friends write if they choose.

morrissey house. we had a great time, my fish and chips was bang on with a generous portion of fries that were cooked to perfection, coleslaw and not too much batter on the fish added to the authenticity of this pub staple. my english dinning partner had the lamb shank dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes, "like she had never left england", slow cooked for that fall off the bone texture, very impressive. they not only promote local small breweries, they have an extensive knowledge of beers and all there nuances to help you along in your selection. the pub itself is a treat to the eyes, in a very old building with high ceilings and beautiful wood trim and doors it certainly adds to the experience. you can sit on the patio(not the most attractive section of dundas street), pop inside for that just eating in a bar feeling or continue around the corner and perhaps, just for a moment expect to see friar tuck sitting at a table! modern music, not too harsh also adds to the casual laid back experience, all in all a greattimethat i hope to repeat!

cheers,

pablo
