just what i wanted. after reading so many mixed reviews on here i thought it would be worth sharing my experience. all i wanted was a juicy cheeseburger with fries. i have been craving it all day so when my boyfriend got home from work we walked over to morrissey house and without really looking at the menu i told our server i just wanted a classic burger with cheese, tomato, lettuce and onion andfrieson the side. was i ever in for a treat! the burger was cooked to perfection with a hint of pink in the middle, i had a great slab of tomato and plenty of melty (not processed) cheese. thefrieswere crispy and delicious. all and all i was very impressed. the service wasn't fantastic but for a girl simply craving a burger on a friday night i was extremely pleased with my impression of morrissey house and will likely be returning to try a few other mouth-watering menu items.

first sign was a menu that was too long. staff was friendly but food a let down. i still need a good dining place in london. steak ordered at the table was quite ok. pulled pork ordered at table fine enough but not outstanding. mussels andfriesunfortunate - mussels overcooked and broth was very boring. didn't seem fresh at all although thefrieswere really great. risotto balls nice but lacked flavour.friessuper tasty and crispy but the mayo that i had to ask for turned out to be sour cream - again staff very nice and were happy to accommodate chairs not comfy. this is a pub and it should promote itself as such - great place for beer and nachos etc. wings were ok but again not great. nothing stood out which was quite sad as nice spot and nice people.

went to this place for dinner before the lightning basketball game and were very pleased overall.
wife had the fish and seasonedfriesand i had the pork rib lets with a light but tasty honey garlic seasoning. both meals came with a generous serving of cole slaw.
the fish was lightly breaded with a home made beer batter and both it and the home madefrieswere served pretty hot.
i had 3 large portions of ribs and the meat literally dropped off the bones. the honey garlic sauce was light enough not to be overwhelming but enough to be noticed. other signature meals are meatloaf, pork schnitzel and steak. also well known for beer selections.
very friendly efficient staff made diners feel welcome and checked back several times during our meal.
restaurant was smartly decorated and is located on the large main floor of a house.
a great place that we will return in the future.
only challenge here is finding parking nearby but a short walk to this place is worth it. one of london's finest.

november 2017.

revisited for brunch and found it outstanding. only offered saturday and sunday.
had the chorizo skillet and partner had the eggs benedict and added coffee. there were so many other unique choices that we have to go back to try them out. hot food, good service, reasonable cost, and ample servings. what's not to like? top 10 london restaurant.

what i like about the morrissey house is that it's great for casual hangouts with people who have different tastes in food. there's something on the menu for everyone, and even the pickiest eater will find something on the dessert menu that they like (i think the twix pie is a winner!). fish & chips, meatloaf, teriyaki salmon are all a+, however the cottage pie is a little salty, their jambalaya doesn't taste creole at all (even asking them to make it hot as hell spicy doesn't save it) and theirfriestaste like costcofries(crispy but bready, you know?). but, they have good desserts and that makes everything better. i recommend the twix pie!! it's not really chocolaty but it does taste exactly like a twix bar. the double chocolate brownie is a warm, gooey deliciousness and the cherry pie is tart but flaky. overall i would eat here again but only for a group social of some sort.

birthday girl. this is the spot i choose for my 22nd birthday dinner. my guests were between 19-40 and each of them commented on the layout of the seating! the beautiful christmas music was heart warming. severed a bottle of wine in a iced vase. i loved my ribs that i ordered, the special was sold out, so ill be back again just to try that! they didn't mind my specific menu choices i cant each frenchfriesso they substituted the garlic mashed & seasonal vegetables with it at no extra cost. i was not only dubbed an ace host but all of my guests said they would be back on separate occasions! im already planning my next visit, thanks so much kitchen staff & the ladies who made me feel so welcome! - a happy birthday girl. dec 2014

the morrissey house is near my hotel and the receptionist at my hotel recommended it. when i went there just after 9pm, the place was jammed as it was trivia night, which was just wrapping up. i got the only spot left ... a seat at the bar. i've never heard of forked river brewing company so tried their blonde, which was on tap.  it was good. i ordered wings with coconut/curry sauce and fries. there were seven wings to a pound and they were big. though they were tender, i found the skin rubbery and the sauce (which was good) didn't stick to them ... so they were kind of bland. all i could taste was the charring from the grilling. thefrieswere good ... crispy! it had a good vibe and i'd go back (and try something else on the menu). serena was my server ... she was friendly and helpful.

like a lot of people have said, the fish is great. the batter is salty and light and just right. house salad also very nice. thefriesare not hand-cut and are covered in pepper -- in fact, the kitchen staff has a very heavy hand with the pepper shaker. it's a bit much. decent craft beer selection. the modest outdoor patio is ok -- you can smoke if that's your thing -- and you get a colourful, noisy view of dundas street which is...good and not so good. overall it's a decent pub for this part of the world but not particularly special -- except for the really good fish and chips! just...not the chips so much.

my favourite place to eat!. since my girlfriend and i moved to the downtown area, morrissey house has quickly become our favourite spot to go eat cheap. we're both students and can't afford much but morrissey's prices are spot on. i love the fish and chips, every time i've ordered them they were perfect; and the fries, my god the fries! i'm not sure what they put in theirfriesto season them but they are amazing!
the staff is always super nice and cool. i love how the atmosphere is so chilled out and i always feel like the staff really enjoy their work. the atmosphere is definitely one of the main reasons (besides the food, of course) that we keep coming back. we always feel comfortable at morrissey's, never rushed, never feel like the staff is trying to get us out the door or rush our dinner along, none of that. it feels like a home away from home that i can get some good food or some beers with the mates and watch the match. can't wait for rugby season to start!!

synthetic. not too bad at first, a few employees politely greeted myself and a few friends as they passed us near the entrance to serve their customers. we waited about 5 minutes before someone finally decided to take us to a table - wasn't busy at all.

another 10 minutes before we received our menus. waitress seemed impatient and cranky and i felt uncomfortable each time she would come to take plates, or when she would ask how it was, as it was very inauthentic.

another 10 minutes later, she came back to ask if we were ready to order. i had the fish and chips. let me tell you, it was the worst thing i have ever had to eat in my entire life. it was something like eating deep fried bread.frieswere dry and nearly burned. very greasy and tasteless dish overall.

clearly an amateur kitchen all the way. fish and chips are a simple dish, and this was terrible.

dirty cutlery - good thing i could use my hands for what i did eat. plates had some food or something on the bottom of them as they were clearly not cleaned properly. though i did not notice this until i was finished.

i was pretty damn unimpressed overall and will not go back. and that's only my review. i'll let my friends write if they choose.

0 stars.

morrissey house. we had a great time, my fish and chips was bang on with a generous portion offriesthat were cooked to perfection, coleslaw and not too much batter on the fish added to the authenticity of this pub staple. my english dinning partner had the lamb shank dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes, "like she had never left england", slow cooked for that fall off the bone texture, very impressive. they not only promote local small breweries, they have an extensive knowledge of beers and all there nuances to help you along in your selection. the pub itself is a treat to the eyes, in a very old building with high ceilings and beautiful wood trim and doors it certainly adds to the experience. you can sit on the patio(not the most attractive section of dundas street), pop inside for that just eating in a bar feeling or continue around the corner and perhaps, just for a moment expect to see friar tuck sitting at a table! modern music, not too harsh also adds to the casual laid back experience, all in all a great time that i hope to repeat!

cheers,

pablo
