poor service, good food. came here for brunch on saturday around 12:30pm with a friend and it was some of the worst service i've ever received in a restaurant. i arrived first and was only given one menu, but when i asked for a second, the waitress disappeared and didn't return for a solid 15 minutes, by which point my friend and i had just shared the one menu. same goes for drinks; we ordered glasses of water which took over 10 minutes to come. from what i could tell, it was only myself and my friend plus another couple dining so i'm not sure what the holdup was. i could see the two waitresses chatting behind the counter the entire time which was frustrating when we had to wait so long for everything. the waitress didn't even comebackto check on us after we got out food which was frustrating because my friend wanted some ketchup.

luckily the food was good or else it would have been a complete waste of time. i had the morrissey eggs benedict and they were good. the hollandaise sauce was very tart, which was different but still good. the homefries were tasty and my dish came with a ton. my friend got the skillet with chorizo sausage and hers were literally amazing so i'd probably go for that one if i were to ever go back.

cheap tip?. hi, i was at the morrissey house a while ago and i was drinking a pint of beer, which costs $4.75 and i left a small tip, i guess too small a tip for the server, because when she picked up my measly .75 cents, she said " i'll give this to someone who needs it ".
i haven't beenbacksince.

we went to this restaurant at the recommendation of our hotel concierge. lamb vindaloo was fantastic. extensive list of local craft beers on tap. large variety of wines by the glass. great value and very good service. we wentbackagain for dinner two nights later and again had a great experience.

second time here.  first time reviewing.

finding a place to park around here can be a bit of a challenge, but if you can get in the lot directly to the west, it will only set youback$4.  a bargain by london standards.

the restaurant is set in a turn of the century house.  decor still has some of the original millwork and fireplaces.  it can get a bit crampt, and loud (depending on the crowds) but overall is clean and pleasant.

the food is delicious, reasonably priced, and of good proportions.  the schnitzel is about the best i've had.  2 giant pieces, tender, and lightly battered (not oily).  the ribs are fall off the bone.  although not the best ribs i have had, they are very good.  homemade side potato salad was excellent.

then there is the beer.  there are 18 beers on tap.  15 of them are ontario craft beers, 2 are ontario craft ciders, and the other being guinness.  great variety that is constantly being changed.  decently priced too.

overall this place has it all.  great food.  great beer.  large proportions at a decent price.  if you can't enjoy eating here, you cannot be pleased.

went to this place for dinner before the lightning basketball game and were very pleased overall.
wife had the fish and seasoned fries and i had the pork rib lets with a light but tasty honey garlic seasoning. both meals came with a generous serving of cole slaw.
the fish was lightly breaded with a home made beer batter and both it and the home made fries were served pretty hot.
i had 3 large portions of ribs and the meat literally dropped off the bones. the honey garlic sauce was light enough not to be overwhelming but enough to be noticed. other signature meals are meatloaf, pork schnitzel and steak. also well known for beer selections.
very friendly efficient staff made diners feel welcome and checkedbackseveral times during our meal.
restaurant was smartly decorated and is located on the large main floor of a house.
a great place that we will return in the future.
only challenge here is finding parking nearby but a short walk to this place is worth it. one of london's finest.

november 2017.

revisited for brunch and found it outstanding. only offered saturday and sunday.
had the chorizo skillet and partner had the eggs benedict and added coffee. there were so many other unique choices that we have to gobackto try them out. hot food, good service, reasonable cost, and ample servings. what's not to like? top 10 london restaurant.

one of the first patio days we moved from the patio inside because of wind. our server was fantastic and very accommodating. we ordered two way shrimp to start which was devoured quickly. 3 sandwiches which were amazing and then the twix pie which was the best dessert i've had in this city along with the carmel crunch gelato. channing, our server was very warm and efficient. i can't wait to comebackand tell all my friends the great time i had. thank you for the experience!

birthday girl. this is the spot i choose for my 22nd birthday dinner. my guests were between 19-40 and each of them commented on the layout of the seating! the beautiful christmas music was heart warming. severed a bottle of wine in a iced vase. i loved my ribs that i ordered, the special was sold out, so ill bebackagain just to try that! they didn't mind my specific menu choices i cant each french fries so they substituted the garlic mashed & seasonal vegetables with it at no extra cost. i was not only dubbed an ace host but all of my guests said they would bebackon separate occasions! im already planning my next visit, thanks so much kitchen staff & the ladies who made me feel so welcome! - a happy birthday girl. dec 2014

the morrissey house is near my hotel and the receptionist at my hotel recommended it. when i went there just after 9pm, the place was jammed as it was trivia night, which was just wrapping up. i got the only spot left ... a seat at the bar. i've never heard of forked river brewing company so tried their blonde, which was on tap.  it was good. i ordered wings with coconut/curry sauce and fries. there were seven wings to a pound and they were big. though they were tender, i found the skin rubbery and the sauce (which was good) didn't stick to them ... so they were kind of bland. all i could taste was the charring from the grilling. the fries were good ... crispy! it had a good vibe and i'd goback(and try something else on the menu). serena was my server ... she was friendly and helpful.

great pub food!. party of three, we made reservations and were seated quickly (saturday night ~8pm). we'd checked the menu prior to going, but what stumped us early on was what to drink with dinner! decided on mixed drinks for two and wine for one.
dinner was prompt and consisted of a savory cottage pie (similar to a shepherd's pie but with less mashed potatoes) topped with parsnip chips (very tasty, and i tend to dislike parsnips as a rule) and a house salad which was crisp but a tad too much dressing (mine was a swimming a little).

the other main was the pork schnitzel which was described as a 'meat pancake' and while thin, there were two and they covered most of the plate. a side of mashed and some nice green beans finished the plate.

service was prompt and attentive and the food was tasty. the atmosphere was typical pub-style, louder than a simple restaurant and the building itself had its own charm, as it was an old victorian separated into smaller rooms with a bar area with tvs and seating areas for dining.

we enjoyed ourselves so much, we forgot to mention our 10% discount coupons we'd been given for the film festival we were visiting. the food was still worth it! definitely comingback- now that its starting to get warm (x-ing fingers), i think we'll try the patio.

synthetic. not too bad at first, a few employees politely greeted myself and a few friends as they passed us near the entrance to serve their customers. we waited about 5 minutes before someone finally decided to take us to a table - wasn't busy at all.

another 10 minutes before we received our menus. waitress seemed impatient and cranky and i felt uncomfortable each time she would come to take plates, or when she would ask how it was, as it was very inauthentic.

another 10 minutes later, she camebackto ask if we were ready to order. i had the fish and chips. let me tell you, it was the worst thing i have ever had to eat in my entire life. it was something like eating deep fried bread. fries were dry and nearly burned. very greasy and tasteless dish overall.

clearly an amateur kitchen all the way. fish and chips are a simple dish, and this was terrible.

dirty cutlery - good thing i could use my hands for what i did eat. plates had some food or something on the bottom of them as they were clearly not cleaned properly. though i did not notice this until i was finished.

i was pretty damn unimpressed overall and will not go back. and that's only my review. i'll let my friends write if they choose.

0 stars.

morrissey house. we had a great time, my fish and chips was bang on with a generous portion of fries that were cooked to perfection, coleslaw and not too much batter on the fish added to the authenticity of this pub staple. my english dinning partner had the lamb shank dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes, "like she had never left england", slow cooked for that fall off the bone texture, very impressive. they not only promote local small breweries, they have an extensive knowledge of beers and all there nuances to help you along in your selection. the pub itself is a treat to the eyes, in a very old building with high ceilings and beautiful wood trim and doors it certainly adds to the experience. you can sit on the patio(not the most attractive section of dundas street), pop inside for that just eating in a bar feeling or continue around the corner and perhaps, just for a moment expect to see friar tuck sitting at a table! modern music, not too harsh also adds to the casual laidbackexperience, all in all a great time that i hope to repeat!

cheers,

pablo

everyone's taste. you could be forgiven for walking past morrissey house, a drab facade setbackfrom the street, unaffected by a mural of sir winston churchill on a side wall, but if you are looking for well-cooked food and a home-like atmosphere please stop by.

the menu has something for everyone's taste, from sandwiches and burgers, braised beef short ribs, lemon pepper pickerel, jambalaya, etc. it was my intention to try the fish and chips - i am unsure if this restaurant wishes to become famous for its fish and chips but, for me, this dish is second to none ... especially if accompanied with a good lager. very grateful for mark's helpful advice regarding the draft and micro-brew beers. the samples provided were a useful education ... and i chose the mill street organic lager.
