the misfit restaurant + bar

“misfit (noun) meaning ‘person who does not fit his environment is attested from 1880.” (etymonline.com).misfitrestaurant and bar is located on the bottom floor of the 1929 clock tower in santa monica, complete with early 20th century architecture, dim lighting, classic bar, and two levels of seating.  a gem of a spot in a modern scene.

i've visited themisfittwice now with one visit being good and the other being purely awesome.

plates were ordered both visits with some the same and some differing from the previous trip. one of which was the chicken sandwich that is delicious. the mac n cheese was ordered again, this time without the chorizo...amazing!!! the chorizo is a side item i can most definitely do without because i really got to taste the flavor of the mac n cheese and pancetta the second time around. it was awesome before but without the extra topping, it was excellent.

another item is the prime rib nik niks that was just as delicious as they were from the last visit.

the atmosphere of themisfitbar is live and exciting with lots of people to socialize with while having drinks. there will be plenty more visits to come asmisfitcontinues to impress.

los angeles’taki pek meşhur turistik lokasyonlar yerine daha lokal bir restoran bar destinasyonu için sizi 3th street promade’deki the misfit’e alalım. önceden belirtmeliyim ki kapıdaki sırayı aşıp içeri girdiğiniz anda kendinizi 21. yüzyıl los angeles’ından ziyade 20. yüzyıl paris’inde hissetmeniz daha olası. ambiyans harika, kitle keyifli. mekan kokteylleri ile ön plana çıkıyor olsa da vejeteryan ağırlıklı menüsü ile sıra dışı lezzetler yaratma konusunda oldukça iddialı. ama biz yine de bulunduğumuz ülkenin anlam ve önemine binaen etten şaşmıyor, filet mignon vemisfitburger’i deniyor ve pek mesut oluyoruz.😊 amerikalıların et marinasyonu ve pişirme konusundaki know howlarından daha ilk tecrübemizde etkileniyoruz. restoran bar statüsünde bir mekanda bu lezzette bir et ile karşılaşınca, steakhouse larda tam bir gastronomik şölen yaşayacağımızı hayal ediyor, şimdiden heyecanlanıyoruz.☺

themisfitbar and restaurant in santa monica california is one of my favorite places to eat when i am being a cali girl. offering a variety of foods sourced from the santa monica farmer’s market, themisfithas some amazing comfort food you’ll want to eat again and again!

our meal was a sort of smorgasbord of items. we started with libations: washington square, n.y – bonal, lemon, and strawberries from the farmers market. i had to look up what bonal is – it is a french aperitif wine. i felt very très chic drinking this.

we started off with some avocado toasts – sourdough bread, tamai farms artisan baby tomato and burrata.

i ordered bacon wrapped dates (my mom and grandmama won’t eat them cause they aren’t kosher. ha! more for me) – smoked almonds, goat cheese, and balsamic. i could eat these all day.

shredded kale & quinoa salad – sunflower seeds, grapes, preserved lemon and manchego. i had them out the manchego on the side cause i’m not the biggest fan of too much cheese.

tamai farms grilled street corn – sambal butter and ricotta salata.

then we ordered dixie fried chicken – jidori organic chicken. it’s good, real good. only thing i don’t like about their fried chicken is that it’s boneless. i love gnawing on bones!

one really cool thing i love about themisfitis they give out their signature chocolate chip and sea salt cookies to you after your meal.

of course we still had to get dessert cause one cookie wasn’t going to cut it. we tried the strawberry gelato – small batch grateful spoon gelato made with all natural ingredients.

i think my grandmama had a good birthday dinner, but next time i’m coming here for brunch cause their menu looks killer!

imagine my surprise, as i’m walking along ultra touristy 3rd street promenade, and there’smisfitrestaurant and bar. i must’ve passed it a million times when i was down here every weekend. barely caught my notice.

now that i write about food all the time, this is a place i should have gone to a long time ago.

outside, it looks like every other southern california eatery. just a place to grab a bite, a beer, and nosh the hours away.
but you go inside, and…

…oh, man, there’s that downtown feeling washing over me.

it’s seriously old world in here. every list of old school l.a. should have this place.

triple threat- great food, cocktails and service!. love the small plates menu that makes sharing and tasting multiple items so much fun. the bacon wrapped dates with almonds and goat cheese were amazing! we also loved the iron skillet fried chicken, so juicy and crispy - just the way its supposed to be. i've had the burger before and its delicious and if we would have been more than 2 people we would have gotten that as well. the spiced red lentils were good, but next time i want to try the chargrilled broccoli or grilled artichocke. the clocktower manhattan cocktail did not disappoint and we knocked down a few. the food was great and memorable, but it was the service that really stuck out. we started the night outside and eventhough themisfitwas crowed with a 30+ minute wait, they pro-actively worked to get us out of the cold and seated in the restaurant. all of the service was prompt and attentive throughout. can't wait to go back!

themisfitis certainly the place for quality food and drinks so close to the third street promenade. i do wish they would expand their brunch menu, though i was happy with the full lunch menu (and the burgers) and the french pancake
