give it a try. it's a really great place. i'm surprised to see that it's only on 54% at the moment! we live locally and end up there far too often. it's the easiest place to meet people not so familiar with the area being a dominating presence in west didsbury, but also great for the numerous open fires, decent selection of real ales, great ambience, staff, wasabi peanuts... etc.
i love the way it's been kitted out, lots of nice old furniture, book cases to separate sections but also lots of space between tables in most places.
the food comes in 3 varieties i think. there's the bar menu for the day, the evening menu in the bar - i've never managed to catch this, it's something like 6-7:30pm -and finally therestaurantmenu. the food at therestaurantis great - not too expensive, good range and high quality. the specials change relatively frequently too.
i do tend to avoid it a bit on friday and saturday evenings when it always seems to be totally rammed in the bar, overflowing onto the street to be mopped up by an enormous queue of taxis..
other downside would be price of drinks, it is probably steeper than some, but not all, of the surrounding bars. perhaps this would put me off if i was going with a bunch of people for cocktails, but for a few pints etc. it's no big deal.
i have had a lot of opportunities to ask things of the staff and they have been very helpful. perhaps the only other thing worth a mention is the wifi -recently i have had trouble connecting to it when i've been down there, but it's free and helped us a lot when we were just moving in!
