excellent meal at half the price. first time at the marc and really enjoyed it. nice room, sleek yet inviting, with a warm greeting from (presumably) the owner. waiter was professional and friendly, food was top notch and when the bill came, i was pleasantly surprised. on par with another high-end resto in town in terms of quality but much less expensive. we will be back!

great new resto. service is very good.

room is crisp and clean. the white and black walls do look a bit stark where there are only a few tables.

portions are par.

i had the amazingly good beef rib sandwich last time for lunch. a crusty roll stuffed chunks of slow cooked beef rib with a side of perfect pom frittes and this great spicy ketchup.

we had a few meals here and each one has been fantastic.

the lamb was cooked to perfection, it was extremely soft and melted in your mouth. the whole dish had the right amount of spices and flavor, everything came together very well...

excellent in every way! the tartare was incredible. the special was amazing - pork tenderloin and orzo mushroom risotto and the wine $9 for a beautiful bordeaux blend. you just can't beat this anywhere - quality and value wow!

had a great dinner there tonight. my wife and i both had the entrecôte with frites (in french denoting a premium cut of beef used for steaks. a traditional entrecôte comes from the rib area) this one was cooked perfectly to request. the frites (obviously you know what this is) were salted to perfection. my wife had a caesar salad as a starter, she thought it was lacking a bit in the dressing department -i actually liked it like that.
with my entree i also had a side of sautéed kale with chorizo (splendid). we washed it all down with the chablis they had available and it was just right.
service was on point with minimal conversation, not more not less, which tonight i appreciated ( perfect to have a good dinner conversation with my wife ).

the owner, mr. saurette; was the person who received us and departed us, both in a friendly and elegant manner.

great dinner experience all together!

not that yummy. it may seem odd for anyone other than a professed foodie to critique one of edmonton's best restaurants, but i have to say it. neither i nor my companion were thrilled with our recent dinner selections. to start the cold appetizer plate with ham and pate was blah, just plain lacking in flavour. the arctic char with mushroom sauce and bread pudding was ditto too bland for words. ane what an odd combination ! the other entree, roast duck, sat on a most unappetizing bed of lentils stimulating neither the eyes nor the palate. the desserts were pretty uninteresting as well, particularly the lemony pie.
the hard edge decor meant a very high noise level. of course the service was good, what we expected. too bad the food wasn't.

whoa, this might possibly be the best birthday dinner dish i've ever had. the duck was phenomenal. a huge portion cooked medium rare - it was seriously melt in your mouth good and i enjoyed every bite. the reduction was slightly sweet and the lentils were a great way to change up the texture.

i enjoy the ambience of the marc though some of the dishes are a bit hit and miss. the side dishes are delicious and all worth a try. ate a special today of pork bolognese agnolotti with brown butter. the pork was good but the agnolotti a bit tough and the brown butter wasn't that lovely hot foam of sizzling flavour, rather a bit oily by the time it arrived. the home made chorizo was amazing in a arise with kale however. i say worth a try but make sure you book early or late in the lunch hour as its popular and you can wait a while for food.

missed the marc on this one. i would like to start off by stating that there should be an “indifference” option. i don’t like this restaurant but i don’t dislike it either. what i do know, however, is that this place is overrated and dare i say...centered on hype?
let’s begin with the appetizers, shall we? the steak tartare is excellent in my opinion, just the right amount of garlic and onion. the spices/seasoning is great and it comes with an adequate amount of baked crostini. only negative is the texture – i like my tartare to be more of a pasty consistency like a jam. this tartare is not that – it is tiny pieces of solid beef chopped up then pounded into a unified shape.
the caesar salad priced at a reasonable $7 is good. for this price and the quantity you get, you can’t go wrong. the plate is enough to share.
now onto the mains. the arctic char is pretty tasty. it is fairly similar to its competitor, salmon, in both appearance and taste. the preparation depends on the day you come in – when i had it, it was prepared with steamed vegetables and a hollandaise sauce. the fish itself was cooked to perfection, not too dry like it is at most restaurants. the dish as a whole had flavor and was worth $22.
on a different note, the fisherman’s stew is disappointing. for $23 you’d expect to get a lot of seafood but there simply was not enough food. it comes in a steel pot so i give them props for the original presentation but inside you will find half a pot of broth with a few pieces of fish, shrimp, and scallops. there are no carbs to accompany the dish so the dish as a whole is not very filling. the flavor was below my expectations – bland and the quantity is modest.
the “entrecote frites” is their grilled 10ox. ribeye steak with foie gras butter. the steak was cooked fine and the flavor was fine. overall, it was just that – fine. not worth $29 – there are numerous places that can make a significantly better steak and frites.
in summary, the positive aspects of this restaurant are that it is locally owned and is a family establishment in the heart of downtown edmonton. the decor is fresh and modern and you almost feel as if you're not in edmonton. there are floor to ceiling windows and light music to accompany the classy atmosphere. i do believe they use fresh and local ingredients in their dishes, however, considering that, the dishes lack flavor and are not at all memorable. come to this place if you want an overall great dining experience but elsewhere if you want amazing food.
service – staff not overly friendly or welcoming. not open to modifications/substitutions unless you state an allergy. service can be slow at times. 2.5/5
ambience – a for atmosphere - chic and modern decor with both young and old professionals as the demographic. the restaurant is airy and flows well. 4.5/5
food – uses fresh ingredients but lacked in flavor appeal. portions are too small. 3/5

fantastic!. my boyfriend and i celebrated my birthday at the marc last weekend. we ordered the scallops for our appetizer and we both had the duck for our main courses. the scallops were exceptional and the duck was delcious and very flavorful. the service was good overall. we were asked to order 3 times in 10 minutes, but once we explained that we weren't in a rush she left us alone. i would highly recommend!

not for vegetarians!!!. went here for lunch today, their lunch menu is extremely limited and there was only one thing that was meat-free. it was just mushrooms on toast, with some lettuce and they charge $12 for it!!
our server was really good, but i won't be going back if the only thing veg-friendly is a mediocre over-priced dish.
