disappointed at marc. i read great reviews of marc and thought it would be great! i totally agree with the next reviewer when he says, "first time at the marc and really enjoyed it. nice room, sleek yet inviting, with a warm greeting from (presumably) the owner." i will add that this was the first time we received such cordial greetings.

but we were totally disppointed at tasting the lunch menu we ordered - a braised lamb sandwitch and an omlette. there was too much salt in the sandwitch, the lamb was not tasty at all, to call it or the omletter french would be an insult to french cuisine. the omlette though expensive ($12.00) was made of just two eggs, just an ordinary, small size, nothing better than you find in an ordinary restaurant where you pay less than half the price.

why is it that most edmontonians praise this restaurant so much? is it that edmontonians have no taste ingoodfood, not to mention french menu? i thought i could get better taste from made to cook package omlette or sandwitch!

escargot, steak tartare, grilled octopus, pork belly, cornish hen, arctic char, entrecote frites, beignets, chocolate cake and lemon tart

there is some tasty dishes here that are worth eating. the escargot is served in bone marrow, persillade, horseradish, and pickled shallots. love escargot, and the combo of bone marrow isgoodshit. steak tartare had cornichon, pickles served with crostini. it was pretty standard tartare, goodnot great. grilled octopus was pretty good. served with chorizo sausage, peas, kale, grapefruit, pommes fondant and salsa verde. this dish not only lookedgoodbut tasted good. the tentacle on the plate looked great and it wasn’t too tough. pork belly had manila clams, cilantro, celeriac puree, pickled apple and fennel. the crackling on this dish was unreal, so crisp and delicious. nice that the dish had clams too. cornish hen had green tomatoes, arugula, couscous and roasted pepper emulsion. hen was not bad, but the couscous was pretty dope. arctic char was delicious. cooked well and hadgoodflavor on the skin. would get again for sure. entrecote frites was pretty good. it was a grilled 10oz. ribeye steak, foie gras butter, frites & truffle aioli. prettygoodsteak and had added flavor with that truffle aioli. out of the 3 desserts we had, the beignets were the best. chocolate cake was pretty good, and the lemon tart was ok too, but the beignets were bomb. fluffy and light and 2 types of dipping sauces.
the marc is just south of jasper on 106st. not right on jasper but worth a walk or drive. atmosphere was kinda plain to me, nothing really stood out except for the french cuisine. the service was great and the lunch menu looks just asgoodas the dinner menu. gonna have to eat here again for lunch.

sal says: just eat it (4/5)

the marc is a semi-formal-ish restaurant with excellent service and decent food.

i went with some friends for dinner a couple of days ago. we had a reservation and were smoothly seated at our table. our wait staff were attentive but didn't hover at the table. in all, the service was excellent.

the food at the restaurant was not asgoodas the service. we went during their "tour de alsace" promotion. i tried the tour menu. the main course was reallygood(choucroute). the appetizer and dessert i ordered (tarte flambee and tarte alsacienne, respectively) were decent but not at the level of the main course. overall, i was satisfied but not thrilled by the food at the restaurant.

a verygoodfrench resturant, the quality here is top notch. i ordered the cornish hen, very fresh and finely cooked chicken, tender juicy and well seasoned. it was spectacular, the portions are small but you pay for the quality and tasty food you get. entrees are high 20s to low 30s appetizers are high 10s. id come here again for special occasions.

my husband and i had dinner here to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. overall the food wasgoodbut didn't quite meet our expectations based on the reputation of the restaurant. we started off on a disappointing note as both the drinks we ordered, and the entree i wanted to order were sold out. we ordered the french onion soup, frites with truffle aioli, and the escargot with bone marrow to start. the soup and the frites were excellent. they were nice enough to split the soup in two bowls for us so we didn't have to pass a single bowl back and forth to share. the truffle aioli was perfect and i could have slathered it on anything and loved it. the escargot was just ok- a little under seasoned and the herbs unpronounced.

for the entree i had the arctic char and my husband had the lamb. his portion was quite large and he thought it was satisfying, but not the best lamb he's had. the arctic char was perfectly seasoned and prepared with a lemon caper sauce and served with lentils and roasted vegetables. overall a great combination of flavors.

we finished off with some beignets, which were light and crispy, but honestly reminded me of a less sweet and much more expensive version of a honey cruller timbit.

all in all agoodexperience, but not stellar. we thought it was funny that both tables next to us were asked if they were celebrating anything special but our waitress didn't ask us. we must have looked more like two young kids on a tinder date than a couple celebrating two years of marriage :p

oh and kudos to the waitress at the table next to us who basically did a mini photoshoot for the couple she was serving. we were so jealous. ;)

greeted by the owner upon arrival. sat down around 745 and ordered an appy and 2 main courses pretty quickly. the steak tartar was quitegoodbut warning for those who are scared of eating raw food as this is completely raw. i think we waited for over an hr after we sat down until we got our main course..the wait was quite long and cold as the ac was quite strong and cooled down my tea quickly. our waitress jenn was quite nice and checked in on us occasionally. my partner ordered the steak+frites which was good. i ordered the cornish hen which came with cabbage+bacon and potatoes (its nice for those who want something light). we ordered beignets for dessert - it tastedgoodbut its similar to a chinese dimsum dessert and i think  i find that one better. i'll prob come back...but hopefully the wait isn't as long next time

an excellent spot. sporting an impressive, french cuisine genre, menu, bare that in mind because french cuisine is very rich (agoodrule of thumb when cooking french is, if it doesn't tastegoodyet, add more fats) but richness is indeed delicious, and the food here is certainly more than just decadent faire. our server was excellent, a very sweet woman who was very patient with our special dietary requirements and indecisiveness.
i would consider the marc to be a "fine dinning" experience, which i find is a term i reserve almost exclusively for ludicrously expensive (but hopefully worth every penny), hoity-toity haunts, but in the case of the marc there was every ounce of the high-on-the-hog veneer that i expect in a fine dinning experience but at a more reasonable price point and with reasonable portion sizes as well. oh, don't get me wrong, its still an expensive place to eat, but honestly i feel that given the quality and nature of the experience it was more than reasonable.
a note for the more conscientious eater; if you are anything like me, there are certain meat items that you cannot bring yourself to eat, no i'm not vegetarian, but i care how my food was treated in life, and with the specials and a few regular menu items including things like veal a foie gras it did start to feel a little like my selection was limited. i imagine they could do some substitutions if you were put off by certain ingredients but still anted a particular dish, but just a heads up.
excited for my next excuse to go again.

love love love! i've been to the marc many times and i leave very satisfied every time! the atmosphere is great, the servers are friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is delicious! the only dish i didn't love -- frittes with truffle aioli. the fries weren't anything special... reminded me of plain old diner fries. the aioli wasgoodthough, you can't go wrong with truffles!

wife and i came here for the first time for a saturday date night. we arrived about 15min early for our reservation (at 6pm) and were seated right away. we were immediately given a drink menu and a set 3 course meal menu and were told that as soon as two regular dinner menus were free they would give use some to review as well - which was a bit odd but not really an issue. in the meantime we ordered drinks. after about 10min we got the regular dinner menus and decided on arctic char croquettes to start, braised pork cheeks and encrote and frites (ribeye steak as fries) for me and my wife to share as we both wanted to taste each of the entrees. the arctic char croquettes (2 per order) were small in size one being about a bit smaller than a medium sized egg but they tastedgoodand the sauce and greens it was seved on wasgoodas well. the pork cheeks were tender and had little to no fatty parts plus the peas and cabbage served on the side were delicious and really made the whole dish. i would have loved more of the sauce it came with as the fingerling potatoes left my mouth dry while eating this. the steak and fries was amazing with the expectation of the large amount of fatty gristle - now i order ribeyes almost whenever i can so i know it is fatty but this cut specifically had a lot more fat/gristle than i have ever had. the foie gras butter really kept the steak moist and tasty and the fries, truffle aioli and even the arugula parmesan salad were top notch! will definitley order again next time. we wrapped up with the beignets which weregoodand actually reminded me exactly of a fresh chinese donut (the sugar coated ones you can get at dim sum). the whole bill came to just under $100 (before gratuity) for two drinks, one app, 2 entrees and dessert - which to me was well worth it. will definitley be back the next time we get a craving for french fare done well!

the service was fantastic. loved the caesar salad and the whip cream on the baileys and coffee. main coarse was smaller in size, however agoodfit if you like appetizers and dessert on your outing. we left feeling full but not as though we over ate.

2 home runs, 2 strikeouts and some olives.. the marc has been at the top of my must-do dinning spots for a long time. them being closed sundays makes it quite tough to make it in.
we ended up getting a reservation on a friday for 7 people with no reservation and at the very end of the night. however or whoever made that happened, thank you, it was very much appreciated.
since it was quite late, we ordered mostly appetizers. one couple split a salad and one of us had the cornish game hen.
the absolute highlight was the cornish hen. cooked perfectly, seasoned just right, the veggies matched the protein nicely and the pan jus brought everything together in perfect harmony. the steak tartare was the main reason we went. a few of us love tartare and they did not disappoint. a classic done just the way it should be. the escargot was nice as well, very nice presentation, but i felt it lacked the richness i enjoy with escargot. that might just be a personal opinion though.
on the other end of things the rillette did not impress. there really wasn't any balance. the texture was something like rendered fat(i know it contains rendered fat) and canned tuna. the flavour wasn't much different. the port figs just felt like heavy on heavy and provided no reprieve to the fatty rillette at all. needless to say, it was quite a let down. the other dish that didn't make the cut was the octopus. the spice on the octopus was a pasty flour texture, so much so that i couldn't taste much else. this stung a little as we really enjoy octopus and most of the meat remained untouched.
two things other i wanted to address, firstly, the wine list is small, but awesome. we had a spectacular wine with supper and that always makes for better meal. the second is the service. our waitress was to say the least very accommodating to us, even though we were a bit of a handful. her knowledge of the menu was perfect and it wouldn't have been the same meal without her. one more mention to whoever got us the table, that went a long way with us.
overall, you really can't get much better service and the food, although maybe a little inconsistent, had some really reallygooddishes. i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place, but i'd likely hint at passing on a few dishes.

excellent meal, nice atmosphere. we went to the mac last night for our anniversary dinner and it was a wonderful choice. the service was good, no problems at all and had as nice short chat with the owner as we left. the atmosphere is quite nice and the decor is simple but fresh. plate presentation was very good.
we had appetizers of the pate and cheese which were very tasty. for entrees we had the lamb and the arctic char which were both excellent. dessert was a reallygoodlemon tart. along with a bottle of wine and coffee the price was $125.00 which i think wasgoodvalue for the quality of the meal.

the jury is still out, and may not return. for some reason despite all the praise we never rushed out to try the marc, it came up in conversation, but never got the nod. finally, we decied to give it a shot. it checks off all the boxes. decent quality protiens, interesting options, pleasant environment, nice (although small) wine list, and i think reasonable prices on everything. we enjoyed the french cooking style, which we don't often do. so, obviously there was some salt/butter tones on almost everything. service was good. but...it didn't surprise, delight, or impress. my guinea hen was a little dry, and would have benifted from more than just a teaspoon of the reduction sauce, which was very tasty. frites and truffle aioli. meh, fryer oil was obviously very clean, and fries made fresh in house, aioli was (my guess not house made) mayo with truffle oil. nothing really to write home about. char was pretty good. service was great.

overall, everything was pretty good. to be honest, the part i enjoyed the most was the wine. i think our visit was our 'aloha' to the marc, becuase i don't think we'll be back. i certianly wouldn't avoid it, you will most likely have agoodmeal there, but there's a couple other places in the same price point i'd take any day instead. although, i think it's pretty silly to suggest you could get a better meal at earls.

mediocre to low quality food, high prices. we ordered the fries upon the servers recommendation, seriously underwhelming for "the best fries you will ever have". i searched fir the green beans in my tomato and green salad and found a couple of bits. the steal was over cooked , the rocket salad was dry and yellowing. we had 2 applies three mains three sodas two coffees and two desserts for 170$ with 20% tip. i could have done better at earls with better food and better prices. on a minday night it should have been way better.goodservice

awesome!. you know i'm one of those who is completely guilty of using this site, always trying new restaurants and never writing reviews myself. well the marc has finally got me to write one! my husband and i booked here last minute saturday night and it was soooooooooo worth it! we had both the steak tartare and the escargot to start. the tartare was awesome, and the escargot weregoodas well. we like the steak better. my husband also had the ribeye which he was very impressed with (that means a lot coming from a steak man like him) and i had the seared scallops which were to die for! prices were also reasonable, by no means is it a 'cheap' restaurant, but hey if you are a foodie it was well worth the money to us. you pay for what you get! best meal i've had in awhile, came out nice and hot!! will be back soon, as i was craving it as soon as we left!
