the food wasgreat. the mussels were the best i have ever had in the city. it took a little while for my entrées but it was well worth the wait. the lady who answered the phone was kind enough to squeeze us in on short notice. our waitress jenn was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. i would highly recommend this place.

disappointed at marc. i readgreatreviews of marc and thought it would be great! i totally agree with the next reviewer when he says, "first time at the marc and really enjoyed it. nice room, sleek yet inviting, with a warm greeting from (presumably) the owner." i will add that this was the first time we received such cordial greetings.

but we were totally disppointed at tasting the lunch menu we ordered - a braised lamb sandwitch and an omlette. there was too much salt in the sandwitch, the lamb was not tasty at all, to call it or the omletter french would be an insult to french cuisine. the omlette though expensive ($12.00) was made of just two eggs, just an ordinary, small size, nothing better than you find in an ordinary restaurant where you pay less than half the price.

why is it that most edmontonians praise this restaurant so much? is it that edmontonians have no taste in good food, not to mention french menu? i thought i could get better taste from made to cook package omlette or sandwitch!

escargot, steak tartare, grilled octopus, pork belly, cornish hen, arctic char, entrecote frites, beignets, chocolate cake and lemon tart

there is some tasty dishes here that are worth eating. the escargot is served in bone marrow, persillade, horseradish, and pickled shallots. love escargot, and the combo of bone marrow is good shit. steak tartare had cornichon, pickles served with crostini. it was pretty standard tartare, good not great. grilled octopus was pretty good. served with chorizo sausage, peas, kale, grapefruit, pommes fondant and salsa verde. this dish not only looked good but tasted good. the tentacle on the plate lookedgreatand it wasn’t too tough. pork belly had manila clams, cilantro, celeriac puree, pickled apple and fennel. the crackling on this dish was unreal, so crisp and delicious. nice that the dish had clams too. cornish hen had green tomatoes, arugula, couscous and roasted pepper emulsion. hen was not bad, but the couscous was pretty dope. arctic char was delicious. cooked well and had good flavor on the skin. would get again for sure. entrecote frites was pretty good. it was a grilled 10oz. ribeye steak, foie gras butter, frites & truffle aioli. pretty good steak and had added flavor with that truffle aioli. out of the 3 desserts we had, the beignets were the best. chocolate cake was pretty good, and the lemon tart was ok too, but the beignets were bomb. fluffy and light and 2 types of dipping sauces.
the marc is just south of jasper on 106st. not right on jasper but worth a walk or drive. atmosphere was kinda plain to me, nothing really stood out except for the french cuisine. the service wasgreatand the lunch menu looks just as good as the dinner menu. gonna have to eat here again for lunch.

the marc is one of our favourite places to go for a nice meal. they have agreatselection of classic french food, while avoiding the overpoweringly rich sauces that some french restaurants end up with. in particular, their arctic char is excellent.

the service is excellent, the food is reasonably priced, and the portions aren't too small. one of the things that sets the marc apart from the other high-end dining downtown is that the wine starts at $40 per bottle rather than the increasingly common $55 - this really makes the difference when you're having 2-3 bottles over dinner.

i had the pleasure of dining here during my trip to edmonton. service and decor were great. loved the atmosphere. my partner and i both had the entrecote frites. the ribeye with foie gras butter was superb. it came with an arugula salad and the fries with truffle aoili. perhaps i am being too critical, but the salad was dry. it was tossed very lightly with fresh parmesan and olive oil. not sure if there was anything else in the dressing but i couldn't taste it. it was definitely lacking some seasoning. the fries and aoili were a nice pairing. overall, i had agreatexperience at the marc, and will be back once i've settled in edmonton.

last week i finally had the chance to try the marc for the first time. i’ve heard a lot of things about it, and i live like 5 minutes walking-distance away, so i don’t really have agreatexcuse for why it’s taken me so long to try it. i went on a nice friday afternoon to give their lunch a try.

my husband and i had dinner here to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. overall the food was good but didn't quite meet our expectations based on the reputation of the restaurant. we started off on a disappointing note as both the drinks we ordered, and the entree i wanted to order were sold out. we ordered the french onion soup, frites with truffle aioli, and the escargot with bone marrow to start. the soup and the frites were excellent. they were nice enough to split the soup in two bowls for us so we didn't have to pass a single bowl back and forth to share. the truffle aioli was perfect and i could have slathered it on anything and loved it. the escargot was just ok- a little under seasoned and the herbs unpronounced.

for the entree i had the arctic char and my husband had the lamb. his portion was quite large and he thought it was satisfying, but not the best lamb he's had. the arctic char was perfectly seasoned and prepared with a lemon caper sauce and served with lentils and roasted vegetables. overall agreatcombination of flavors.

we finished off with some beignets, which were light and crispy, but honestly reminded me of a less sweet and much more expensive version of a honey cruller timbit.

all in all a good experience, but not stellar. we thought it was funny that both tables next to us were asked if they were celebrating anything special but our waitress didn't ask us. we must have looked more like two young kids on a tinder date than a couple celebrating two years of marriage :p

oh and kudos to the waitress at the table next to us who basically did a mini photoshoot for the couple she was serving. we were so jealous. ;)

my boyfriend took me here for christmas dinner and it was the best possible place he could have taken me that night. i ordered the scallops and they were so delicious. 10/10 i would go back to enjoy that dish. the fries were really good. the dessert wasgreatas well. it was a bit pricy for the portion size, but the taste was absolutely worth it.

a gem. char croquettes - just seemed to be full of fish, greatsauce, beautiful and delicious dish.
escargot - solid
ribeye - perfectly cooked, greatsteak flavour that was perfectly seasoned, fries were a bit over salted - though i kind of like that on my fries. best steak i've had in edmonton.
flank steak - perfectly cooked and tender.
beignets - just had some a few months ago in nola and unfortunately i thought the ones at the marc were a little undercooked in the middle.

atmosphere was subdued, romantic.

service was fantastic - there only when needed.

look forward to going back....

sensational food and incredible service!. took my wife to the marc for her birthday. the atmosphere was wonderful and the service was even better. staff is very knowledgable on the menu and know what wines pair well with each entree. we had the duck breast and the braised pork. they both were very succulent and delightful. we had a very nice rhone to go with our meal.greatplace for special dates. they gave us cake on the house to celebrate her birthday. as soon as we got there we knew that the marc would be a place that we would surely revisit.

just perfect.. came without a reservation- late, one night- on a weekday. the place was surprisingly still busy, but the service was still careful and the atmosphere was calm. our server was very well informed with the menu. she knew it inside out. i had gotten the lamb that was braised so perfectly that it practically fell off the bone! food was delicious, the atmosphere wasgreatand the service was unreal. would definitely come again.

disappointed!. went here after reading some amazing reviews. nothing approached the level we were led to expect. all the food was over salted. the arctic char, although deemed to be fresh, when tasted raw simply couldn't have been. beyond that, the comments on the food were treated as one-offs, nothing to be taken seriously. even when speaking to the owner, he argued rather than trying to make things right. we had heardgreatthings about this place but you can rest assure that we will tell everyone we now, and even more people in the hotel and service industry, the the marc does not live up to its reputation!!

major disappointment. i heardgreatthings about this place. after visiting it- i'm not sure where all those people were coming from. our waitress was brusque and snippy- until dessert time [getting closer to that tip] when she turned on the charm. i really dislike that kind of behaviour.
the food was ordinary in the extreme. i had the roast chicken- with a mushroom reduction sauce. the chicken tasted like anything i could have made at home, the sauce flavourless and all on a small bed of rice. they served me the thigh and drumstick [the cheapest parts of the chicken]- so no white meat at all. that was a problem for me because i don't like dark meat. the afore-mentioned waitress told me you get what you get when ordering the chicken- no offer to bring a chicken breast. i assume they buy a bunch of thighs and legs because that is the most economical for them, regardless of what their patrons may want.
grilled asparagus on the side was gritty- we joked that it tasted like it had fallen onto the floor and been rolled around in dirt or sand. the kale with chorizo sausage was nice- but do we really need meat with our vegetable sides? this is a menu heavy on meat- there are no options for vegetarians. a big thumbs up though to the salted caramel chocolate cake. delicious and a decent sized portion. if i ever go back- it will just be for the desserts.

great new resto. service is very good.

room is crisp and clean. the white and black walls do look a bit stark where there are only a few tables.

portions are par.

i had the amazingly good beef rib sandwich last time for lunch. a crusty roll stuffed chunks of slow cooked beef rib with a side of perfect pom frittes and thisgreatspicy ketchup.

we had a few meals here and each one has been fantastic.
