in the moo'd for the local cow. hello, this is justin with grub mafia food reviews. my offering to the god of culinary delights today is the local cow restaurant. as i walked through historic downtown gresham, i noticed that many new businesses have sprouted since my absence. local cow restaurant was one of them that caught my eye, because who doesn't like a good cheeseburger? the decor is simple, and there is a pretty laid back atmosphere, which seemed to me like it would be a perfect fit for the alberta, kerns, or hawthorne districts. there is a bar there, because what goes good with a burger? a beer to wash it down-and they offer local craft beers at that. right off the bat, i was warmly welcomed, and seated-which is always a plus in my book. i just hoped that the food would be as good. when i received the menu, there was a large assortment of gourmet-styleburgersto choose from. i picked the rockwood, which is a cheeseburger with deep fried cherry peppers(kind of like onion straws, but with a kick), and fresh guacamole. the burger is served with tim's cascade chips (a local company), and their garlic fries with parmesan and truffle oil are amazing; the bun is not too heavy; the meat tastes fresh, with little seasoning-keeping the essence of that beef flavor; the cheese did not encumber the meat; and the ingredients were all local. in my opinion, this is what burger places aspire to become-making the perfect burger, but the local cow got it right. the only negative aspect in my experience, was that the burger is a bit smaller than i am used to. the food culture in the united states is always about big, but i could get used to eating a modest sized burger, because it actually filled me up, and it was delicious. definitely seek this place out, because it is worth every penny. you'll leave happy, and will want to come back for more.

i hope that this review was insightful, and helpful to the people who spend their hard earned cash looking for a great meal. my reviews are for you.

we drove 45 min across town to try out this new resturant theburgersare tasty but but small and over priced. wait staff was not attentive at all, if the service was better the price of the food would not have mattered as much.

goodburgersand fries with a brewhouse nextdoor. what more can you ask for? sit on the patio between the two and have a local cow burger and fries and a couple craft beers from the hoppy brewer ... hooah!

i had a cheeseburger ($7.50) with bacon ($2) and sauteed onions ($1) for a total of $10.50. it came with fries which were paltry and uninspiring. my friends had a burger and mount hood wedge ($9) and we got some beers from the adjacent hoppy brewer.

my burger was good, but at 1/3 pound, not particularly overwhelming and the fries were few and far between, closer to a garnish than a side. $9 for a wedge of iceberg lettuce with some cherry tomatoes, bacon bits, and balsamic vinaigrette was a tad excessive and would have been a much better value in the $5 range.

the hoppy brewer had some nice drafts, but the porter from the fridge at less than $5 a pint was awesome and $5 well spent. they were knowledgable and helpful, delivering quality brews at reasonable prices. the brews from the hoppy brewer sealed the deal, otherwise this would have been a 5 or 6 bomb experience.

combatcritic gives the local cow and hoppy brewer 7 bombs out of 10 ... more bombs are better!

seven bombs equates to: "s&g" (check my blog for military acronym definitions)

food ok/service horrible. after being left on hold, to place a to go order, for over 7 minutes i wanted to give them a chance so i called back; never got even a cursory apology but instead, from placing the order through picking it up, the waitress was rude and acted like she was doing me a huge favor. left me feeling like i was putting her out and wasting her time. the burger was ok, i have ordered from there before, but this was the last straw there are to many other goodburgersin the area to be treated badly just to get one. i won't be bothering her again nor will i recommend them to anyone else.

delish!!!. so good! i love theburgersand the black bean pattie option too. the staff is wonderful, the owner even gave me 1/2 off because i had to wait for a few minutes. the portion sizes aren't the biggest, but they are fairly priced and you don't walk away feeling too full, which is good. i pray this business prospers and stays in gresham for years to come!

not the best experience, but good food. good food, good prices, kid friendly and understaffed. our family rarely goes out because we have some people with celiac disease in our family. the local cow has gluten free buns for theirburgersand gluten free beer as well. the food was really good and the kids loved their little theatre game thing they had on the tv. however, the service was not very good. the waitress seemed annoyed with our questions, which i understand, but with celiac disease being a very serious disease we have to make sure that there is no gluten in any bbq sauce, chips etc. it was busy at the time, but there needs to be some patience when dealing with food allergies. otherwise, you can lose a lot of customers. to top it off, when our kids got their hotdogs (which we had told the waitress no buns since they couldn't have gluten either) the hot dogs came with buns. we just took the buns off (even though we should have told them to remake the hot dogs...yes with celiac you have to be that strict) but instead we decided to let it slide this time. they are understaffed there and really need to get another waiter in there. in the waitresses defense, she seemed to be doing two peoples jobs and was bussing tables, taking orders, delivering food and checking on customers. had they had enough people working, we probably wouldn't have felt like we were that annoying customer everyone hates. i really would like to see this place succeed since we did enjoy our time there and i can see it being a success, but it will be difficult for us to feel safe going there if the people working there aren't sure what's in the bbq sauce and teriaki sauce etc and then mess up our order when we have serious food allergies. other than the obviously understaffed restraunt and the food issues, it was a great place. i'm hoping if we make it in there again it will be a better experience.
