situated in the basement on the clarence street, the lobo plantation is one of the many bars i like to frequent on this strip & for agoodreason ! the drinks here, although i feel a bit more on the pricier side ~$20-22, are all very delicious! the drinks come out well presented and 'instagram worthy' with little decors to match their names. came here with a few pals from the gang and all 6 out of 6 drinks we ordered were delicious and would order again. it's not common that every drink you order at a bar is both unique in taste and presentation, which is why this place deserves a lot of credit. not to forget to mention, the decor of this bar is also very latin american and sets you intogoodvibes all around. only wished that the music at this bar better suited the surroundings and decor of the place.

this is a very busy underground bar and restaurant in the city. they have a large range of drinks and in terms of food, i really liked their cuban sandwich and cured kingfish ceviche. the dining area is very dim so i don't have anygoodphotos to upload. the place also gets quite noisy but the service was excellent.

after loving the cocktails at kittyhawk, i really should have gone directly to the lobo plantation. it’s the precursor bar, owned by the same trio; jared merlino, michael hwang and eddie levy. the sticking point for me was the focus on rum…

the bar is named for the most famous havana sugar baron, julio lobo, who lived the high life in cuba. cuba’s richest man at the time, he was one of the last wealthy people to leave, a year after the 1959 revolution. on his way out, his art collection – which included paintings by diego rivera and salvador dalí – was confiscated by the state.

you enter this bar modelled on lobo’s exiled hideout through a candlelit row of potted palms, descending a grand curved staircase into a richly decorated room with hints of plantation mansion. the leather-bound cocktail menu gives agoodselection of cocktail choices with plenty of detail, from a position statement to ingredients and an image so you’ll know if your resulting drink will be long or short. the bar’s real resource however, is its bartenders, like daniel “paris” hilton on the evening i visited. they’re happy to save you some reading and create you a bespoke drink centred upon your personal predilections. they’re also great ambassadors for rum...

table service was a bit hit and miss but the surrounds and ambience more than make up for that. hipster bearded bar men dudes do the business in a quality manner. great place for a quiet catch-up, romantic or otherwise, and to relax and enjoy the joy of agoodlounge bar.

awesome place! great cocktails, professional staff who know what they are doing and aregoodat keeping track of the bar.

atmosphere is good. bar staff fit the atmosphere perfectly and are always very presentable. even if it's busy they are happy to recommend something for you and answer questions about cocktails.

not agoodplace for a date though, it's really loud and hard to hear each other, but that's only because of the large volume of people as it's a pretty popular place.

recommend if you like a strong drink withgoodtaste - nuclear daiquiri

oh this place! in love. the best seat in the house? the bar. had such agoodtime here. atmosphere is loud, packed to the brim but the food & drinks are amazing. loved the empanadas and pork croquettes. drink wise 8 cocktails were consumed (shuu don't judge it's been a long week). the drinks were perfect. fun, funky and with free rubber duckies. the staff are really attentive and you get free plantain chips (surprisingly it's salty)

rumbunctious. there is something about spiral staircases. descending into lobo plantation, with the vista of a really quite gorgeous space unfolding before you, is certainly not the worst way to start an evening. and even better when it's followed by a perfectly put together cocktail. while the specialty of the house is rum, i opted for a boxcutter, a mix of two types of gin, vermouth and sour lavendar syrup, which turned out to be a lovely smooth, refreshing drink. my fellow travellers were equally happy with their little bastard and g&t. this carribean influenced rum palace is an equallygoodoption for an after night work drink or somewhere to take friends from out of town.

i really wish the lighting was better here, photos just don't do it justice. staff are wonderful, friendly and know how to make a damngoodcocktail. as soon as you walk down the stairwell and into the latin music, you instantly feel welcomed and ready to take a seat in the super comfy couches. i had the rum & rye and ship wreck cocktail, the perfect combination, well balanced and not overpowering, exactly what i want in a cocktail.

the service and ambience truly can't be overlooked at this great little night spot.

great service and cocktails. had a delightful experience here last night! the bartenders were attentive, friendly and added to the experience. the décor of this bar is amazing! you feel like you are descending down a staircase from the entrance into a bygone cuban era.

the cocktails were also enjoyable. i like the traditional and simple style of most of the drinks with no disgusting sugary girly cocktails insight. the cocktails were fresh, sharp but very smooth. a favorite would have been the banana colada old fashioned. had a verygoodnight thank you staff!

the lobo plantation. its quite rare that i walk into a venue and within minutes realise that i really effing dig it. lobo plantation is it. like uncle ming on york, lobo is a themed small bar. it focuses on what i’d call plantation glam and its got a hidden aspect to it and loads of colonialist touches which made it feel really special. i love it and this is why you need to visit asap. so here’s the entry off that unassuming gate off clarence street. nearby is a long queue of punters waiting for the m30 whatnot to take them home to the northshore and their tellies. they have no idea this is here! down the stairs and its warmly lit and intimate and romantic with the furnishings and the greenery. i like the palette. its effusive and sort of calming. great looking space. they picked some rather fantastic pieces of furniture and the venue is just top notch. big plantation art piece on the wall. a look at their bar. unlike some other small bars, light level isgoodand you can see easily. t

the lobo plantation is definitely my kind of place, and it’ll be yours too if you like themed bars, caribbean hospitality and eats, and great drinks. oh, and rum. located in a former basement hairdresser on clarence street across from seminal hidden cbd bar the baxter inn , the lobo plantation is a rum drinker’s haven with over different 150 bottles on offer, most of them caribbean rums uncommon on australian shores. entry doors i'm a little in love with the entry foyer just past the iron gates before the white-painted doors, which is a bit like a transition space for drinkers entering off the cbd street into mid-20th centurygoodtimes in the caribbean. step down the winding staircase into the atmospheric, jovial space and the lobo pl
