lousy service cancels out good food. i have been to the fountain twice. the first time, in may, i took a friend there for lunch. the grownup grilled cheese sandwich and city salad that she ordered were divine. my egg salad sandwich was very good (but didn't taste the capers). service was spotty to slow, but i overlooked it because the place is so charming and the menu so fabulous; i couldn't wait to return. i guess i should have. i took my husband there for an early bite to eat saturday night before circus flora. it was not terribly busy, but just try to find someone to take a drink order! once we finally did, we had to follow up with her to find out why it was taking so very long for our drinks to arrive; she said the bartender was all backed up (there were maybe 10 people in the place). ok, whatever, the cocktails were yummy. the food just ok. and in the end, the service was just so frustratingly unprofessional (we were seated by the hostess station and endured her repeatedly thumping her knuckles rhythmically on the wooden station - she said she did that when she was bored) that it just killed the whole experience. st. louis is full of dining options - i'll go see what else is out there.

great drinks, good food, fun atmosphere. i've been to the fountain twice and have been impressed each time. most recently i went during lunch on a saturday and was surprised to find the place full (but we were still seated right away). my husband and i ordered the mushroom soup (special soup of the day) and the la picada appetizer. both were amazing and i would highly recommend them. we both ordered cocktails and both were made well (not like the watered-down sugary drinks you get at some places....these were real drinks).

the atmosphere of the fountain is very fun with a vintage, art deco feel. there is a huge bar in the center of the dining area and it would be the perfect place to go during the evening, sit at the bar, grab some food and sip cocktails all night.

an ice cream coma awaits you!. my fiance and i stumbled across the fountain for the first time after i did a "nearby" search filtered on "desserts" on my urbanspoon iphone app. how in the world did i not know about this place?

upon entering the ambiance immediately captures you. the whole retro ice cream parlor vibe isn't something you see these days and they pull it off perfectly. you can definitely get lost in the intricacies on this place.

we split a sandwich, the blackhawk. i normally wouldn't rave about a cold roast beef sandwich but the flavors were spectacular. the goat cheese spread they use on it could be spread on most anything and make you smile. i also tried the toblerone martini, one of their ice cream martinis, and was impressed by its sweet flavor.

but the highlight of our first visit was the ice cream. my fiance is an ice cream fanatic and accidentally finding this place on her birthday was like something out of storybook. she went with the three coins in a fountain and i choose the bearcat. you can look them up on their online menu for the details, but let me just say that as a person that typically doesn't get too excited about ice cream i found that i was racing myself to the bottom of this delicious treat in a bowl. who won that race? i did.

for the time being the fountain has knocked bailey's chocolate bar out of the top spot for my favorite dessert place in st. louis. as my fiance said, there is no reason we shouldn't visit this place at least twice a month. looks like i should request a frequent diner's card.

great addition to the neighborhood!. it is one of my favorite lunch spots in the area! the menu is unique and refreshing. i would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to try something new and would suggest the adult grill cheese. they have a great atmosphere- the only downside is they are closed on monday.

i think of all the restaurants on our twelve in ten list, this was the one i was most looking forward to. after all, it's an ice cream parlor, and my love affair with ice cream is no secret! the fountain on locust has won several awards in st. louis for t

just lovely.. no one can argue with the following statement: women like to nag. with my girlfriend, it's always, "you always take me to jack in the box on saturdays." me: " well, i do take you to different locations, remember just last week we went to the valley park location. you loved it!" you: " whatever."

as you can see, this is a classic case of nagging. to save myself the headache, i took the lady to the fountain on locust. they did not have bacon cheddar potato wedges (recently voted the unhealthiest potato wedges in america) nor did they offer jalapeno poppers or sourdough jacks.

she got some type of tomatoey soup, it was creamy and perfect, bold flavors. she paired it with a cold layered roast beef sandwich smothered in a goat cheese, garlic, and olive oil mixture. pretttttyyy tasty.

i had a hot roast beef sandwich, pretty simple, but filling, and i liked the carmalized onions. it was accompanied with house made potato chips, crisp and bold, with a touch of garlic.

we each got phosphate sodas, like regular soda, expect more expensive.

the decor is just precious, blue and gold all over, cool chandeliers, and other stuff, i'm not sure, i was too busy checking out my date. she looks good hungover.

service was kind of sloppy, sorry bud, how many times can you run into that chair? i counted three.

the fountain is not for me and my family. not only is the service little to be desired, the food took forever. while i we were waiting, my car window was smashed and 2 dsi's were stolen along with my gym bag. i will never go back again.

the staff are lovely and the food is great but the icecream is heavenly. only thing i do not care for is their cherry soda which tastes like tylanol.

a delight. i took the kids for lunch and a treat, and couldn't have been more pleased with the decor, the service, and the food. the space that the owners have created is a playful as the menu. our server was attentive (and patient, considering the company i was keeping) and our lunch, while simple, was nicely prepared and presented. each of our handmade sodas were fresh and crisp (and available sugar free, another plus), and the ice cream finish was perfection. highly recommended!

disappointing dining. it took more than an hour from ordering until we received our food. then the sandwiches were soggy and the pasta and soups were luke warm. we tried again for dessert and had sullen service. sundaes were just ok.

good food, but the service is lacking. the first time i went for lunch, it was ok to somewhat slow, but we weren't in a hurry and didn't mind all that much. the second time i went out with six friends for a birthday. no one got to eat at the same time. they proceded to bring out our ice creams one by one over the course of two hours, saying they were "slammed" when in reality they were understaffed and only at 50% capacity on a saturday night. there's something wrong when you have to wait around and beg for a check so you can go. it was way too loud to boot.
