this is one of my all time favourites. 

the food is unpretentious and always delicious. 

the waitrons are well trained and friendly, they know the menu well and will refold your napkin every time you leave the table. i have never been caught with an emptywineglass, and they often throw in an added extra in the form of a palette cleanser or truffles.

as it's name suggestions it is located in an old barn, which has high ceilings and loads of natural light during the day. the decor is very welcoming and homely. 

if you don't live down south, this one is definitely worth breaking out the passports for.

i saw that the food barn had a very high rating on zomato so i had to make a plan to try it for myself. 

what a great restaurant which stays true to the produce they use, without creating too much of a fuss around it.

my group opted to share a table salad as a starter, this salad is huge – easily enough for four people & so fresh. for mains we had the risotto with prawns, the cannelloni and chef’s pan bagna…not sure if i spelled that correctly. the latter was the best choice; great flavours and fresh trout. the risotto and cannelloni were also yum but less memorable! all dishes come with suggested wines and the chardonnay i had was fantastic. it’s great when a knowledgeable person has done the thinking for you. the waitress was super friendly, maybe even a little bit too much; she was giving us so much information on the different dishes that i imaged the next line would be how the lettuces were plucked from this mountainous range or that the fish was called chris and had a fantastic life. you get the picture. but, on the other hand, it’s great to hear from someone with a passion for what they do. 
next time i save up for the tasting menu withwinepairing!

the menu is in two sections -winepairing and a la carte and for lunch during the week the a la carte menu is half price, making it a rather pleasant surprise. limited in choice though but i do compliment the chef, the food is divine. service is very attentive and the ambiance is lovely.

how fantastic! meeting with long time friends who are locals but for us a bit if a drive was made worth it by the exceptional service & tasty food. deciding on the 3 course pairing menu, we enjoyed the cannelloni starter, beef fillet & pannecota dessert. winepairing was perfect. thank you for a great evening

a hidden gem ✨ although overpriced with meagre servings. their menu is seasonal, and they cater for vegans. the mushroom ravioli is unbelievable!!😍 it undermines every other dish, except for their desserts! which not only look delicious, but taste so!

food elegance at its best. i've always loved dining at the foodbarn. i believe the chef used to work at la colombe and then started working at this restaurant. it's a lot more relaxed than la colombe but the food quality is fantastic. it's kid friendly and they have a play area outside for kids. they have a greatwinelist and many different phenomenal dishes to choose from. all the ingredients are fresh and you can taste that a lot of love went into every dish

we went for dinner and all opted for the tasting menu. very good decision! we started with a terrine of fish tartare. yellow fin tuna. absolutely out of this world! one of the finest dishes i've ever tasted.
this was followed by a rabbit confit spring roll . then onto grilled line fish-superb. and lastly a compte of grilled goat cheese and roasted figs- also delicious.
each dish came paired with a very decentwineincluding one from spain which whilst delicious did not, i think, compare with our local tipple.
my only minor suggestion would be that all wines were white and it would have been nice to have perhaps had a red with the rabbit for variation.
service was professional and discreet. decor is minimalist but you don't go to the food barn for that.
this is a top notch venue and i urge you to try it.
warning parking can be difficult.

exceptional. the food was literally to die for. every bite was perfect. excellent withwinepairing. i would recommend the cheese balls for starter and the prawn risotto for mains. outstanding on every level. my friends and i loved every minute. restaurant has a good ambiance too. very light and welcoming. treat yourself - this place is a gem!

superb food and a well thought out menu, the foodbarn is truly noordhoek's hidden jem!

you have the option of ordering from the a la carte menu or opting to do the tasting menu. we wanted to try dishes that weren't on the tasting menu, so we went a la carte withwinepairings.

for starters, we had the ravioli, the goats cheese beignets and the tartare. all three dishes were amazingly presented and tasted devine, each with their own unique taste. the wines matched perfectly with the dishes - my personal favorite was the newton johnson chardonnay that was paired with the ravioli - not your typical chardonnay, but worked so well with the food! my favorite starter was the goats cheese beignets - crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside... delicious!

mains included the linefish (sea bass), beef fillet and prawn risotto. once again, all three were superb taste sensations! the sea bass was soft and juicy with a crispy skin and a mouth watering sauce. i loved the sauce that came with the fillet - sort of a cinnamon taste to it. but the standout dish was definitely the risotto - absolutely delicious! i could not fault it!

for dessert, we had the belgian chocolate, which was just as delicious as the other two courses and not as sweet as chocolate desserts usually are. it was also quite light, despite looking like quite a generous helping of dessert.

the food was perfect, but unfortunately the service was very poor. out waitress seemed to completely forget about us after the first course. i felt like the foreign guests around us were being given priority over us. in fact, i bet we could've walked out of there without paying an no one would've noticed. when we complained, the manager was very apologetic, which was nice, but our waitress seemed to develop quite an attitude. it's a pity that this spoiled what would otherwise have been a top class meal!

this place is incredible! my boyfriend and i have been to noordhoek a few times but had never tried the foodbarn. we had dinner there spontaneously on our first night for our december holiday and i didn't know what to expect. my taste buds were blown! our waiter was an exceptionally friendly gentleman who made several recommendations regardingwineand food. i advise that you listen to your waiter because they definitely know what is best!
to start we had steak tartare, mains were the karoo lamb and sirloin, followed by the poached apricot dessert. our meal was accompanied by a hartenberg merlot 2012. delicious!!
i wish i could relieve the entire evening. my boyfriend and i shared the mains and the only thing that i would change would be to both order the karoo lamb. it is delicious. the gorgonzola creamy sauce is not too strong for those of you who fear gorgonzola. i highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting cape town. it is worth the drive!

being slightly outside of town and lacking any formal "top 10" ranking, you'd be forgiven for thinking the foodbarn was just a casual restaurant in noordhoek. you'd also be greatly mistaken, as the chef here also used to be the chef at la colombe when it was ranked in the top 50 restaurants in the world. the food here is absolutely ridiculously delicious, packed full of flavour and old school french technique. i had a really hard time choosing what to eat which is always a good sign. to start i had the ravioli with fresh peas and asparagus, served with a buttery truffle sauce, very elegant and light but every mouthful was a treat to be savoured. for mains i had the fresh tuna served on bean and porcini mushroom puree which was delicious. i also tried the risotto of celeriac with prawns which in my opinion was the dish of the day. for dessert we had the marshmallow and fruit, and the chocolate dessert which were excellent.
the friendly waitrons were all very clued up on every item on the menu and were happy to cater to particular dietary needs. excellentwinelist with many options to go with the brilliant food. i can't recommend the foodbarn highly enough.

hosting was impeccable. waitrons and hosts were friendly and knowledgable. the food was beautifully prepared and perfectly seasoned also presentation was appetizing. housewineis delicious.

we had the most amazingwinepairing lunch here that lasted about 5 hours. the food was outstanding and got me to eat frogs legs for the first time (very good). the food was paired with wines from groot constantia and we have had the winemaker personally presenting the wines with each dish together with chef dangereux explaining each of his dishes. what a treat!

the food here is absolutely fantastic! make sure to make a booking as it can get very busy. we had the three courses withwinepairing which is such great value for money. each course was hearty and beautifully presented. thewinewas also fantastic and went well with the food! we also had an apple and cinnamon sorbet which was delicious. you won't leave here hungry.

we had the privilege of dining at this great establishment on friday eve. we opted for the mooiplaaswinepairing menu. we were all blown away by the food. innovative, tasty, beautiful food. excellent, friendly, unobtrusive service. the atmosphere is warm, smart but totally unpretentious and we found the prices reasonable. the food experience of the decade for all of us around the table. it's a pity we are from jhb as this is a place you can go back to, time and time again as they have perfected the complete dining experience.
