at last a visit to bro’kin yolk!  before this visit, i’ve gotten many odd looks when i told people i have yet to visit this lovely spot for brunch.  some of the footage from our venture is on the vlog! #yolkporn. upstream benny- smoked salmon, pickled red onion, wilted spinach, basil, hollandaise

beautiful little restaurant! love the interior! greeted by the most friendly and hilarious host! service was attentive, refills and ketchup were replaced continuously. the food was delicious, my plate of chicken and waffles looked slightly bare though. a little pricey for the amount you get, but everything you do get is super delicious 😊😊

best breakfast place i have tried to date in calgary! it tasted amazing and the portions were very filling. make sure you call ahead of time to put yourself on the wait list as it can get quite busy (i went on a long weekend and the wait was about 1.5 hours). the server was very cheerful and served us very quickly. overall, i had a very enjoyable experience and would recommend this place to everyone!

the bro'kin yolk is by far my favorite brunch spot in yyc! the atmosphere is nice - very homey! the servers are lovely and the food is delicious!

i've been here numerous times and what always brings me back is their chicken and waffles! they are the best in town! the waffles are fluffy, the chicken is not dry and the two sauces that come with the dish are perfection (especially the white gravy). another gem on their (kids) menu is the mac and cheese! you can tell it's been made from scratch, it's super cheesy and delicious. though this breakfast joint is a little pricey (ranges from $14-$16) imo it's totally worth it given the portion size and the quality! would highly recommend calling the restaurant in advance to be put on the waitlist (especially on the weekends) as the wait is normally 1-2.5 hours long. would definitely recommend! 🙂

let me tell you about my struggle to get to the bro’kin yolk.  the first time around my sister and i drove around the creekside shopping area for ages. finally, in frustration we left and went somewhere else to eat.  my phone gps kept saying we were there and that we needed to make a u-turn.

a couple of months ago we decided we wanted to have a nice breakfast out.  after looking through reviews and seeing how much others enjoyed this restaurant we thought we'd give it a try.  upon arrival we found it to be jam-packed to overflowing which was a good sign, with a 20 min wait for the bar or a 1hr wait for a table.  we chose the bar, which gave us a good view of the cooks.

the atmosphere was a bit chaotic but it was busy so that's no surprise.  the wall nearest the entrance had writing all over it and some of it was hard to read, but the place overall looked very clean.  our seats were announced via text which was great because we wouldn't have heard our names called over the din.

after perusing the menu we ordered chocolate milks (because we saw someone else's and they're huge).  derek had the upstream benny and i got a house cured bacon breakfast poutine with the eggs scrambled because i don't like poached (runny) eggs...

it was a little bit of a wait, so we were halfway done our delicious, enormous chocolate milks by the time the food arrived but i'd noticed something interesting.  the first time the eggs were done and put on top of the hasbrowns, he spied something that he took out of the dish, along with the eggs, and had them re-fired.  i really appreciate that he caught whatever it was and replaced the ingredients before it could be brought to me.

now the dish itself...  the duck fat hash on the bottom was divine...honestly anything cooked in duck fat has such rich amazing flavour that it just made the potatoes perfect.  the eggs were well-done just the way i like them with a dusting of something i think might have been paprika...the roasted garlic hollandaise was really creamy and blended great with the eggs and giant chunks of bacon.  part of me wanted more sauce, and part of me kept saying "no way, this is rich enough!"

it was so delicious i can't wait to go have it again, when i'm hungry enough to handle it.  the portion sizing had us leaving full, without any need for extra sides.

as we were paying the bill the waitress let us know that their text-based table notification doesn't just work when you get to the restaurant, you can call in advance and they'll let you know in time to drive over.  that's so fantastic i wish more restaurants offered that kind of notification service.

we will definitely be going back.

not much for flavour- each dish was hospital bland... even the chorizo was bland (more similar to a hotdog than chorizo).

service and coffee were both good.

went to the new signal hill location and it was pretty good. called ahead and was put on the wait list and got a table at the promised time. the food was good and the service was excellent. the only drawback to the new location was the size of the table for 2 people. it was very small. i’m a larger individual and i pretty much just fit. overall, not a bad first visit and i would come back again to try some more of their dishes.

*this review is about signal hill location

bro’kin yolk is a breakfast food restaurant. it’s open every day 7:30-15:00 and they serve breakfast type of food all day.

i have tried spanish chorizo bowl, chicken and waffle and very berry french toast.

chorizo bowl was almost like jambalaya with sausage. which was very different from what i expected from menu description and i was expecting chorizo to be spicy but chorizo i got was very bland sliced sausage and that was also not what i imagined. one egg was served runny, the other egg was almost cooked all the way. i overall was not a big fan of the dish, could be just because that was not what i thought it’d be, but to me it was not very tasty and texture was all they same soft texture.

however chicken and waffle was good. i liked the waffle, it was light and crunch outside. chicken was also crispy out and juicy inside. it was surprising that they charge you extra 1.25 for white meat. also, they drizzle tiny a bit of syrup on the waffle and if you need more, it’s extra 50 cents. same goes to sauce and gravy, it comes in a tiny cup which is almost too small to dip chicken in and if you want more, it’s extra 50 cents. i like to eat my waffle with a lots of syrup so i’d need at least 3 orders more of syrup...

french toast was ok. it is nothing special, i won’t order it again.

price was very reasonable. i like oeb and oeb increased their price while ago, compare to oeb, brokin yolk is still very reasonably priced. also, less waiting time, which is a plus.

also, i’d like to say service here is nice and friendly. i ordered drip coffee and they came to top up my cup like 10 times! it’s amazing and i’d like to say thank you:)

overall, i liked this place but my food wasn’t very good, i’ll have to visit again and try different dishes!

you have better choices out there...try diner delux. if you like great food and resonable prices then this place is not for you. management is always dragging people down.

this small restaurant has a brilliant system for their wait list which is great because the restaurant is small and always crowded. as mentioned in other reviews the service was extremely friendly and efficient. once we finished eating however, they were clearly anxious for us to leave, repeatedly checking in on is and bringing the bill right away. i understand this (again: small restaurant, long wait list) but i enjoy visiting with friends over coffee after breakfast and dislike feeling rushed out. i ordered the bacon benny which was delicious. their bacon has a sweetness to it that was a happy surprise for me but my friend didn’t like it so that’s just a matter of preference. everyone raves about their duck fat breakfast potatoes... i thought they were good but certainly nothing that stood out over something similar i’ve had at other restaurants or even made myself. or perhaps i just don’t appreciate the nuances of duck fat flavour. this was an enjoyable breakfast to be sure, it just didn’t stand out to me as being head and shoulders above other breakfast places in town (which admittedly are few and far between outside of downtown!) i would happily try it again but have others on my list i might choose first. (i would give it 3.5 if i could)
