bro'kin yolk is a local diner ran by two brothers who decided that the north needed a brunch place of their own. their menu is supported locally, and offers traditional breakfast items (such as egg bennies, frittatas, hash, waffles, etc). i ordered the bacon benny and felt a little mixed about it. the hash side it came with was quite tasty and flavourful, but the benny itself was average in taste. one thing that might help is if the server was able to ask how i would like the eggs to be done, as i do like them on the softer side. if you're going during busy times, you're able to leave your number, or hang around and wait. the service there was incredibly friendly, and you can tell that it is a positive atmosphere with the staff being so friendly and helpful. this place has only recently opened, so it would be interesting to see how it does in the long term, and if there are any adjustments made after considering customer feedback.
update:
came back a second time after the restaurant had been open for a few months, and i thought there was a pretty good difference between my first experience and the second. it seemed like the brothers have taken some of the reviews to heart, and i could see that they had made some adjustments to the menu items and everything looked amazing. the waffles were definitely thicker and bigger than before, and i could hear a lot of positive feedback from the other diners too. i tried the bro'que madame, and i thought it was done quite well, with a nice soft consistency to the bread, which went well with the egg and sauce. i would suggest giving this place another shot, especially if you were feeling discouraged by earlier experiences!
