the bro’kin yolk is another great spot in calgary for your breakfast and brunch needs! i ordered the vegan hash, which contained quinoa, tofu & veggies on top of potato hash and served with guac & salsa.
the dish was good, but i couldn’t help but think that i could make this exact same dish at home with more flavour and bigger serving size. the biggest drawback is definitely the location, since its located close to the edge of the city in the nw.

someone recommended this restaurant to us, and saying we were underwhelmed with our experience is an understatement. the service and environment was great, but the food was just plain terrible. my burger patty was bland and not only was the bun too small so all the inside fell out as i ate it, but as soon as i picked it up, it was soggy! the duck fat fries were incredibly overcooked (i thought they would be similar to oeb and was disappointed). the bacon tasted like overly sweet beef jerky. i'm glad to see other reviews also mention they would prefer an option for bacon that isn't super sweet. the "scrambled" eggs was just a big chunk with uncooked and overcooked parts throughout. the worst part was, it came to $60 for two people for a meal we wish we made at home. i don't write reviews often, but it was bad enough for me to log into my account after years just to try to steer people away from this place. if you like outstanding food for a little extra price, please avoid this restaurant!

was listed on dailyhive as one of yyc's breakfast places that uses locally sourced ingredients so i went to check it out. nice bright cute little space. breakfast poutine came out fairly quick but it was waaaaaaaay too sweet. i ordered it expecting a savoury dish; however the honey cured bacon totally overpowered the dish. it resulted in a very strange sweet egg hash taste. eggs were also poached medium instead of soft as ordered. won't be back. going to stick with oeb and my other 'go to' breakfast spots.

finally got to try the place. it was good but it wasn't anything that special to wait for 2-3 hours for. the service and food were about average. nothing to complain about but nothing to write home about. my favourite thing was probably the salted caramel sauce.

i wanted to give this place another try. my first experience was very disappointing- i like basic breakfast so can't speak to the bennies, waffles etc that some people gave high praise for. first visit, the eggs were over cooked so i sent them back. took awhile for replacements to come, so the rest of my food was stone cold. today, the lovely waitress suggested i order the children's breakfast as i don't ever eat 3 eggs in one sitting. the portion was generous, the latte i ordered was delicious... but unfortunately i was let down again by the quality of food. the sweet bacon was limp and cold and not even that good; the hash browns were lukewarm at best and nothing special. i'm sure those two items sit under a warming lamp for who knows how long - but you would think they would get over-easy eggs right. they were cooked properly this time, but were barely lukewarm when i got them; cook or waitress? not sure. so i will stick with my other favourites-- oeb is head and shoulders better than this... although bro'kin yolk makes a better latte.

their reservation system is so handy, in calgary it's impossible to go for brunch without waiting s very long time. i appreciate we can just call and they will text when a table is ready. i do find some of the items on the menu kind of pricey and think is odd to charge for maple syrup. the food is ok, doesn't blow my mind but it's a nice local place to hit up for brunch. the staff is very friendly and attentive, even when it's insanely busy.

one of my favourite places for brunch in the city. i've been going at least once a month since they opened. apologies to the staff, my friend and i usually go there to eat and complain about our week, so if we sound super negative it's nothing at all to do with the restaurant or food. the super homey ambiance is conducive to just talking and catching up. i've had ridiculously good service each and every time i go, one of the wait staff went through the trouble of digging through a box of condiments just to get my friend raspberry jam even though we said we didn't mind the strawberry, he just overheard her saying how she prefers raspberry. gold star, we definitely appreciated it!

i've tried nearly everything on the menu and there isn't really anything negative i can say about it. i agree with some of the other reviewers regarding the balsamic, it can be a bit overwhelming so you can ask for light balsamic or maybe on the side if you're not a fan of it. the duck fat hash has never let me down, and i am a fan of all of their eggs benedict, but my absolute favourite is probably the truffle, ham & wild mushroom breakfast poutine. it's so filling, most of the time i end up taking some home. you can also order off their children's menu ("for the littles" in the centre of the menu) and treat those as snacks/sides. i was craving mac & cheese one day and theirs is exceptional.

might be a bit biased because it's close to home and i've had nothing but good experiences and fantastic food here. :)

i as so excited to try this place because i live in the area and was eager to eat at a place with good ingredients. the food was amazing the first time i visited. i always order the oscar benny and my husband orders the chicken and waffles. we loved it the first time. the second time was equally good. unfortunately, the third time i went, we felt the quality of the food went down. our potatoes were almost cold and very dry and hard. we asked for new ones and they were very happy to do so, but the new plate for potatoes still tasted quite old (like it had been deep fried several times due to it sitting out for too long). my husband said his chicken also wasn't quite as good as the past. he said it tasted as if they hadn't changed the deep fry oil for a while because the skin was very heavy and greasy and not night and crispy like it was the first two times. the service is always pleasant, and it's still nice to have this option so close to home, but i really hope the third experience was just an odd ball one.

came here for brunch on valentine's day, and much to our surprise there wasn't much of a wait. partly because of their smart waiting list, calling in to reserve a table is so much easier!

my boyfriend had the farmer's breakfast, and he absolutely loved it! the bacon was juicy, the homemade sausages were yummy and the hashbrowns were unlike the ones we've had at other breakfast places.
i got the upstream benny. which was very good, the eggs were deliciously poached, and there was a lot of salmon, so the benny itself was already filling!

overall, great place for breakfast/brunch! we enjoyed it thoroughly!

you haven't had breakfast food if you haven't been here. the upstream benny was so delicious i had to take a moment to slow down and eat it slowly 😂😂 i also recommend the berry smoothie, it was delicious and delightful!

walked in at 10:00am and it was very crowded, busy, and loud. to increase business, bro'kin yolk has placed too many tables next to each other, in a extremely small space. a table of two is more like a table for one. you are sitting right next to strangers at less then an "arms length". the atmosphere is very lively and decor is nice. i ordered the framers breakfast, i paid 15.00 and received 3 free range eggs, hash, sausage, and bacon. the food tasted great, eggs were cooked excellent, however, the bacon was horrible. if you want sweet and candied bacon, then bro'kin yolk is the place to go. if they can give you a choice of bread, spread, condiments, etc. i think regular cooked, unsweetened bacon should be an option too. from the many breakfast joints i have tried, sweet bacon is not on the menu, i would not expect all customers to enjoy it. aside from the sweet bacon, the service, ambiance, and food was great.

shocked at the high scores. ordered the chorizo & mushroom frittata and a simple breakfast dish (poached eggs, bacon and toast) -- best way to gauge a place is how they handle the basics. being cute and putting your benny on waffles is fun but that's not the measure of a good restaurant.

poached eggs came back hard and sulphurous. by the time the next ones came out (took a while) the toast was cold. the bacon didn't come out fresh even initially; just lukewarm, floppy grocery store bacon. the hash browns are the same cafeteria ones you'd get from anywhere. if you're a serious breakfast restaurant you need to do the basics better. nothing was comp'ed as an apology.

the frittata was fine; not poor, not great. the sausage was good on both quality and quantity, and the eggs were fluffy. but nor was there anything above-average going on here in terms of taste and preparation and as stated above, it came with cafeteria hashbrowns.

the upsides: service was attentive and friendly. the coffee is excellent, both a regular dark roast and a latte. atmosphere is bright but basic.

overall, an extremely disappointing experience and not worth the drive. there are so many amazing breakfast restaurants in the city and this just didn't compete today.

great service! everyone was so warm and welcoming and the staff seemed to be a little family with each other. amazing coffee with so many refills. had a tiny waffle and nutella sauce to start (which was great!) and the breakfast poutine. the food was really good. we knew about the wait system and called ahead, but didn't have to wait because of inclement weather. i'm so happy that a trendy, cute restaurant with a local menu has sprouted out of downtown!

why do brunch places always have the best service? a warm greeting walking in, and impeccable service until we left. i love how the eggs benny are done with a belgian waffle! the hash browns were a bit underwhelming. my boyfriend ordered sausage on the side and it was $3 or so for 3 small slices of sausage. my open face avocado sandwich was decent. avocado and tomato have light, fresh flavours. they added too much balsamic and it completely overwhelmed the entire dish. ask for less balsamic if you order this! despite that, the ingredients were so fresh! worth a try if you want brunch but don't want to go far if you live in the nw! if you live near edmonton trail or don't mind driving, i would stick with oeb.
