overall i enjoyed my experience at the black toro...

fantastic service. one of the absolutely best places in terms of customer service. went with a friend who had an egg allergy and they could specifically cater some of the dishes to it. they would individually have a single wrap without mayo, or change the batter of another to avoid egg. the level of service was just a great experience, they would bring out dishes and explain what everything was and what was in it.

portion wise its a little small, but its just a very nice and accommodating place.

having walked past here a thousand times, i have eaten at almost every restaurant in glen waverley but here. boy was i missing out. a great venue with dishes that satisfied my picky tastebuds, i was impressed considering it was also so close to home. with tapas, it does become quite costly for a big eater like myself. between the two we spent over $100 not including a cocktail. out of everything we ordered, i did find that we could have done without the corn dish, 10/10 for presentation however. thoroughly enjoyed my first experience, must come back to try to desserts next time and definitely the perfect place to eat before a movies date!

😱lizzie’s first impression: this is possibly one of the best mexican restaurant i’ve been to in melbourne. although situated all the way in glen waverley, i think it’s worth travelling for.

🍩lizzie enjoyed: it was my first time trying white fish ceviche and it turned out to be so delicious - i loved the citrus flavours and the melon. we tried he prawn quesadillas and they were really different and nice - like a little cracker with a warm cooked prawn filling. the tacos were amazing - we tried the soft shell crab ones and it was really flavoursome.

🍅lizzie did not enjoy: the main lamb dish was a bit of a let down - i almost rather ordering different tacos instead of a diy - it needed some sauce as the slaw and the lamb just didn’t cut it.

🥇lizzie rates overall: a great place to go to for a date night or a celebration for something. i think prices are quite affordable especially for the quality

enjoyed a delicious dinner here on the weekend. we shared the corn, pulled pork tacos, lamb belly tacos & toro fried chicken. made sure we left enough room to try the coconut rice pudding also. really want to return soon and try the lamb shoulder which sounds amazing. this place has 2 sittings - 5.30 & 8pm and is a great local place. will definitely return to try and eat our way through the rest of the menu. staff and service were fantastic also.

we are so happy with the quality & taste of the food at the black toro. instead of ordering mains we ordered a few small dishes to share. there was not one dish to fault. great ambience in the restaurant. staff were friendly and attentive. we will definitely be back here again. 100% recommend this place.

food here is always impeccable.
can be hard to catch a waiter's attention after initial food/drink order, but when you do get one, they are always friendly and helpful.
this is my favourite local to take people i want to impress.

i have been here 6 times with friends and family. their menu is always changing but it never ceases to impress. staff are extremely friendly and attentive. great ambience for a romantic date, friends/family gathering or business dinner. keep up the great work!

very very very overpriced. for tiny tiny tiny portions of food. for some reason or another they are always packed... staff are friendly enough. atmosphere a bit cramped

it can get very busy and booking is a must if you have set your eyes on trying these mouthwatering dishes. i ordered the kingfish sashimi, which was light and delicious, one of the best i have ever tried, the soft shell crab tacos that were absolutely a must have, the pork belly bao that was on special and was equally as flavoursome and the deconstructed peanut butter cheesecake that was slightly disappointing compared to the other superb dishes. the pork belly was nice and sticky, a texture that i have never tried before but definitely enjoyable! i had to say i enjoyed all the savoury dishes equally as they were just as delectable as the next! i had high hopes for the peanut butter cheesecake as it sounded inviting but it wasn't as good as i expected. it was good but lacking in the impactful flavour component. still delightful nonetheless. overall a very palatable experience and would definitely come and try black toro again. only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that the servings are rather small and that the price is rather expensive!

i have eaten here twice and have not been disappointed. the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and especially patient with my grandmothers specific food requests. the food has a very unique taste, but always enjoyable and delicious. i can't wait to come back here again!

a local restaurant that always looks buzzing, we decided to check it out ourselves. despite visiting on a weeknight, black toro still had a great ambience. our table was slightly squished in as i was almost back to back with the other table and we got forgotten about a few times (our wine took a good 15 minutes to come). we managed to over order (as usual) but the positive was we got to try lots of items on the menu including the corn, croquettes, soft shell tacos and hard shell tacos, and the sliders. couldn’t fault any of the dishes, they were all stunning 😍 a new favourite local for mexican food done extraordinarily well.

been wanting to get in here for awhile, but could never get a booking. finally snagged one on a monday night. parking absolutely chockers so arrive early or build in ten/fifteen minutes to find a car park. restaurant is small but nice with a good range of food for even fussy eaters. staff were attentive early but as the evening slowed down, they did too. that being said, every time we caught their attention, they were quick and friendly to help. food tasty, and authentic, we were a table of six and there was little food left over at the end of it.

    where: 79 kings way glen waverley i have always loved the ever changing restaurant strip in glen waverley. we used to live very close by and visit there a lot. at one point i was a little worried about addiction. kings way has the best street food and dining strip in the whole of the outer south east, in my opinion. the black toro is a welcome addition. they serve new wave mexican food. kind of like the taco bill of old, but only insofar as a elvis impersonator is like elvis presley. the food is more fresh and inventive and less, well, saucy and formulaic.
