we dined here last night just for a quick bite. the customer service was excellent. the waiter that looked after us was a gem. we were waiting for our last course for a while but did not mention it to anyone as we were enjoying the company. the waiter checked up to see how we were going. we mentioned about the last meal, he even remembered what we ordered. the meal then came out with apologies from the waiter and the manager. when we went to pay for our bill they kindly gave us a discount. we were shocked as we weren't expecting it. the prices were quite expensive but other than that everything was great. thanks for an enjoyable meal guys! ps the waiter that served us had a tattoo on his neck. great job to him :)

delicious dinner. had the chefs choice banquet tonight and absolutely everything was super tasty. we had a selection of tapas and it was hard to choose which was my favourite... maybe the croquettas or the pulled pork tacos. too hard to pick! so nice to try something you might not normally choose, give it a go, you will enjoy the experience of fresh and tasty food. won't be long till we head back. kudos to the chefs. service was great too by the way!

amazing!. came here last night for the second time with a friend. i have very severe allergies to eggs, nuts and seafood and nothing was too much trouble for these guys - they even did the fried chicken in an egg free batter so i could eat it. pulled pork taco, fried chicken and corn cobs all incredible. the wait and kitchen staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgable.

they also cater very well to gluten intolerances. i will be back soon!

sorely disappointed. have been in love with this place recently however tonight was a total miss. came in with a party of 9 and was told the banquet is the only thing we're allowed to have. made 2 requests to be included in the entrées to which the waiter agreed to however they never came?! the night ended with a humongous portion of a dry, tasteless lamb dish which we couldn't even take home for the dogs (not allowed); and 9 unhappy customers.

honey i shrunk the sliders. gone are the amazing beef sliders that i had previously enjoyed so much, now replaced with pork belly sliders that only come in novelty size. great taste but shockingly overpriced.

you'll want everything on the menu. i'm a local and had never noticed this place before now. fantastic food and service. i'll be going back to try every single thing on the menu. we ordered three plates between three, and could resist ordering another three. flawless. a bit on the pricey side for the family but perfect for a date night - or double date night and get the large serving plates!

yum. had a small lunch with a friend the other day. ordered the pulled pork taco and triple cooked potatoes with paprika salt.

pulled pork was divine! taste-wise, it seemed more south-east asian than mexican - kind of reminded me of the dishes at red spice road, though i'm not complaining.

the potatoes were good, though i found it quite salty and must've downed 5 glasses of water during the meal.

overall, great experience and would love to go back to taste the other dishes.

amazing food! great service!. been here a few times now and the food has always been amazing, perfect place for a quick lunch/dinner or something a little more intimate. the $45 and $65 banquest are also a great option if you're like me and find it very hard to decide on what to choose as they do have a lot of things on offer and definitely worth the price as you get so much food! crab tacos are a must have!! although some of the flavours seem more asian then mexican, it's sort of expected in an area such as glen waverly. props to hayley and julian and the rest of the wait staff, always offering drinks and clearing plates as needed, very friendly and professional aswell. overall great restaurant and would 100% recommend to anyone that wants to try :)

loved it!. in short, we've been there several times now and the service is great, the menu is very unique and interesting, the food quality is remarkable and consistently good, and overall a great dining experience. been there today with my fiancée and parents and they too loved every meal. special thanks to chris our waiter.

unfortunate service, reasonable taste. the food was reasonable and with expected flavours. it was strange to have asian flavours in mexican (?) dishes. a bit awkward i thought. although food was good and dessert were ok, i personally could not force food into my mouth in a short amount of time. the staff were nice, but very rush and pushy. i like to be left alone when i eat and don't like to be pushed to have dessert ordered when my friend is still trying to eat the remaining pieces of pork and chicken.

the black toro is my "go to" place.
when i want to take someone somewhere special with really great food this is where i go. my fave item in the menu is the cured salmon so delicious that i crave it sometimes. although most of the dishes are a hit the best way to eat there is the banquet option cos you get to taste multiple dishes for great value. staff are friendly and make sure you book in advance they do get crazy busy on the weekends. love it!!!

pricy but worth it!

i often visit the black toro with my wife for dinner and we have taken friends there on different occasions. everything about this place is of the highest standard.. you won't be disappointed!! i do get extremely annoyed when i read reviews like the one that was posted by simon casey. people like simon have obviously never run a food business or probably never even worked in one for that matter. complaints about restaurants/cafes not splitting bills should be banned on this site/app. i'm fed up with it, what do you expect them to do? give you the bill with a calculator, pad and pen because your afraid you might pay an extra $10 that your friend should have paid for? it's so hard to keep people happy these days!! to the staff, management and owners of the black toro, keep up the great work. we look forward to celebrating my wife's birthday there in december.

hard to get in but worth it.. had the set menu, which is always a good start as it is like a sampler of the restaurant's quality, this changes every day and is at the chef's discretion. the food was delicious, atmosphere was good and the waiter was excellent and explained the dishes well, very friendly with good and quick service. not as iconic as mamasitas but well worth it and you won't be disappointed. remember it is a tapas style restaurant and so there are lots of small servings but the lamb shoulder was superb.

been here twice and never disappointed. would be one of my favourites. a little crowded but the quality of the food and service makes up for that.
