great food and service. we had never been here before, but we decided to try it due to an advertisement on groupon. best mediterranean food that we've had in the kansas city area so far. their salad is to die for, but their lamb kabobs are also totally delicious. plus, theirricepudding is like heaven in your mouth. will be back.

authentic mediterranean now available in kansas city. even if you don't know if you like mediterranean food, you probably like: beef, chicken or lamb over yellowricewith warm pita bread with excellent salad and hummus. yum! at first, the basha is easy to miss. but head to d'bronx pizza on metcalf and 105th. drive drive left hugging the building. you'll see the small sign and it's facing the walmart neighborhood grocery. whether you've been to the mediterranean and want to be reminded of the great flavors or you just like to try new foods, you will like labasha. not spicy, just flavorful. prices are great. it's very clean and easy access from your car in a strip mall. walk right up. very friendly staff. wonderful egyptian owner.

gateway cuisine. note: not easily visible from metcalfe or 105th. on north side of strip mall behind pier 1.
dined with a very elderly companion who has a light appetite and who has become fairly unadventurous in food choices. getting a bit tired of the johnson county chain chain (even some of the nonchain restaurants seem standardized here) i gambled that a middle eastern restaurant would have enough familiar choices (most people would eat bits of chicken with rice, right?) that it would please both of us.
basha did. we shared an appetizer combo, added some tabbouleh and a chicken schewrma. i thought all dishes were quite acceptable and some very good. companion ate quite a bit by her standards, the salad/tabbouleh, hummus/pita,riceand chicken were successful. she cautiously tried the falafel and decided it was a concept. she avoided the baba ganoush and dolmanthes which meant she missed some of the nicest spiced dishes. myricepudding was excellent and she was happy with ordinary ice cream. she did miss being able to have a glass of wine but understood why it might not be available.
service was thoughtful, ambiance a happy medium between the undercapitalized and worn look of some ethnic restaurants and the slickness of chains.

i wouldn't recommend to a friend. the food is not bad (with the exception of the fact that they will serve you a pound ofricewith 2 ounces of chicken). nevertheless, it is tasty. however, the way the manager treats his customers is unbelievable. he bends the rules and has no shame of being unfair to his customers. i have never seen a restaurant business behaving like this.

very disappointed. perhaps it was a bad night for the chef and we did have a large table (10+). everything except for one bite of chicken and thericewas over cooked and terribly dry. the sauces were watery which didn't help the situation. even the turkish coffee which we both drink often had no coffee flavor, just a hint of cardamon.

in fairness one of the members of our party enjoyed lebanese nights and i didn't hear anyone else in our party complain. so perhaps it was our taste buds which were off.

great food, price, decor, service!. i was with a group of 10, and we had great service. server gave just the right amount of attentiveness; very helpful; cheerful. decor great too. got the shawerma chicken, since it was one of the items that got the most great reviews. it was well worth it...so good that it may make it hard to try something different next time. the hummus was really good. was going to order it, but the server was kind enough to say that it came with the meal...so no need to! and plenty of food for a very reasonable price - will enjoy half tomorrow! the egyptianricewas very good...very different from the swedishricecustard that i make (and like better)...but i would still order it again. though creamy, it still seems light enough not to be too decadent! looking forward to my next time, and to trying some other interesting things on the menu.

i agree with the negative about finding the location. i'm 5 minutes away; familiar with the area, so i could find it. but it is not in the shopping center in the directions...it's across the street; and the directions from my house were way off. if i hadn't known that, i wouldn't have found it.

fantastic! the food was wonderful! rice, gyros, kabob...everything! i have never hadricepudding like the version they serve at the basha and now no otherricepudding will be enough! still can't get over the texture and flavor of the hummus. the dessert selection in general is wonderful. had the opportunity to speak with mo, one of the owners and was blown away by his sincerity and friendliness. will be back. will bring friends.....i forgot to tell you about the salad dressing! i usually dont like salad, but i would eat this every day if i could. obviously can't say enough about the basha. check it out. you won't regret it....oh and the prices are unbelievably reasonable! ok i think that covers it.

great food. the food here was really good. we eat at a lot of mediterranean places and this is one of the best.
the flavors are a little different than most places, most noticeably in the dolmades, which we loved. you can get them with or without meat which is very nice.
the portions are quite generous as well. the mixed grill came with a ground lamb portion, chicken kahbob and steak kahbob. the chicken was some of the most tender and well seasoned i've ever eaten. speaking of well seasoned, is their hummus. it's actually got flavor, which most don't seem to have. if there was any mis-step with the food it was that the beef was a tad tough, and a tad salty.
desserts were really good as well. if you don't like rosewater tastes, your choice is limited to the baklava andricepudding.
now, the service on the other hand, that would be their biggest downfall. the wait staff could use some more training about efficiency, manners, and organization. the owner (?)/ manager was very nice as well. they might need to step up to help if it looks like service is going slow.
we will be back for sure, and hopefully with a more competent or less frazzled server.

delicious, great value, friendly!. this place is great, helen (one of the critics) has no idea what this cuisine is all about. i had the chicken shawarma and my husband had the kefte ( lamb) kabobs. they were both sensational. i am going to bring my entire family here. the service was fast, friendly and they had answers to all of our questions. we have had all manner of mediterranean , middle eastern and indian foods. this is really tasty and authentic. great value too! we had 2 drinks, an appetizer (dolmades, which are grape leaves stuffed withriceand spices yum) 2 entrées and a desert (om ali) all for $40. i'm in heaven!!

possibly the best mediterranean food in town. i've been to most of the mediterranean places in the kc area, and this place definitely can compete with the best of them. the beef shawerma was delicious. thericewas flavorful and not too dry. the hummus and tahini were top notch, and the falafel were as good as i've ever had. we also got a taste of thericepudding dessert that was fantastic! i need to go back to try everything!
