pancho v.. we first tried tamales from tellez this past thanksgiving. we enjoyed them. ate them again on 12/6 at a meeting.

it'sgoodbut.... we finally tried the tamales, they aregoodbut... i'm sorry, they're not ruben's. we tried the pork and the chicken for christmas because we didn't want to wait the 4 hours at ruben's. the tamales needed some seasoning for flavor, they were bland and tasteless. (sorry, just honest)
i have gone by and sampled their tacos and again i was not impressed. call me picky, but i like the thick tortillas when eating carne guisada so the tortilla stays together instead of a hole forming and leak all over my shirt.

andrew zimmern eats here. this place is tamale king for many and has agoodreputation and following around town. come in and order a few hot and fresh to munch on or buy several dozen to go. i have done both and have been satisfied with the tamales i have tried for the most part. they are still a bit light on the meat stuffing to masa ratio, but then i use mi casa "hog legs" as the benchmark by which i gauge all tamales.

can't comment on the barbaco though. and i think i will leave the cow head consumption to andrew zimmern types.

tellez has got the traditional tex-mex version of the pork tamale down pat. perfect ratio of masa to meat with just the right seasoning. the jalapeno porks aregoodalso, especially with agoodmexican beer.

barbacoa & big red. barbacoa, corn tortillas, avacado, big red on sunday.it`s allgoodin the nieghborhood.
