food was excellent, service was ehhh.... the food was excellent at teatro, fresh and flavourful. yum!
however the service was only ok. when we walked into teatro, we were greeted by this girl who did not smile, at all. she took us to our table and that was it, didnt say anything and she looked rather annoyed & pissed off. very unpleasant. our server wasgoodbut not great. when i asked him what he would recommend for dessert, his reply was "hm.. the tiramisu and the creme burlee has been on the menu for 15 years." i asked him, "how is the red velet cake?" he said, "i don't get a lot of order of that". not that there is anything really wrong with that, but as a good/professional server, i think he could have described the tastes to me and maybe be a little more enthusiastic about the food.

unfortunately the place gets a little quiet by 830 even on a saturday which took away from the "good time" vibe i was looking for.  food and service were bothgoodi had the seafood lasagna and laura had the pollo.  drinks were also pretty good.  overall it was agoodtime but not a spectacular visit.

it's a very special place with european style architecture and decor. it looks upscale but prices are not too bad especially if you are not a big drinker or eater :) it's agoodthing that they offer two different size of paste, so that you can have more courses. potato soup with pecan and leek is tasty and creative. orecchietta with asparagus/mushroom and spagettoni? carbonara are both quite rich. spagettoni carbonara would be better without parmigiano cheese on the top in my opinion as it’s rich enough. sometimes i think they put too much efforts instead of respect the original italian recipe though. carrot soup is special with some sourness , which is quite appetite opening, haha. food were presented nicely and service was pleasant. it's agoodplace for a fine date or anniversary in my opinion.

decor and ambiance are wonderful, it was a beautiful place to dine for an anniversary. however, food was not great or exciting. we ordered a variety of menu items. we got a caesar salad to start, the meat board, mushroom risotto and chicken dinner. none of them were all thatgoodor flavourful. risotto was under cooked and had very little flavour. the chicken was a weird texture and the caesar salad came in full leaves so you had to cut it yourself. service was not great either, we had all the tables around us getting bread but not us and our waiter didn't  come to check on us until we flagged him down to get us more water and bread. overall, i'd definitely go elsewhere.

i was pretty disappointed by this place. if we are spending $80 on a meal per person the food should be nearly perfectly executed. my husband and i went here for our wedding anniversary so we wanted to treat ourselves.

so first the food tasted good. what they sought to accomplish in flavour they did. however i lower my rating because i feel like they didn't offer anything new to the food. for example the gnocchi with pesto is literally gnocchi with pesto. their wasn't really any thing all too new.
this being said, the classics are great but my major issue is... if you are going to offer the classics at exorbitant prices then you have to freaking nail them. as in, once i eat that i should be saying "dang this is some of the best carbonara i've had". but all of the pasta was overcooked. soggy floppy sad little dough. let's take the gnocchi again... they were so soggy that some pieces had begun melding together to create one super sized gnocchi. also ordered some lobster pasta (can't remember the name... might have even been a special since i can't find it on the menu) and the pasta was also soggy. some pieces will just fall apart as you swirled it around your fork. eggplant parmesan wasgoodalso overcooked. the eggplant and parmesan melded into some sort of goo. but it was tasty goo! also had the 52$ bison which was good. you only get three pieces of bison which is a bit disappointing but that's fine dining. this dish was well executed andgoodbut again nothing that stood out. nothing unique. what the menu says is literally what you get. polenta bison and rapini. no unique flavours, no unique texture.
the risotto was also undercooked. the rice was crunchy. on the plus side.... i guess that's where i got my want for texture from.

tldr: you can get better executed food for better prices elsewhere.

my boyfriend took me to teatro for my birthday dinner. we were seated in a very nice booth spot and the atmosphere was great.

we had the calamari as appetizer and it was delicious. the batter was just perfect and great sauce to pair with it. for main, we ordered the daily fish - lingcod and beef tenderloin. the fish wasn't that great, it was a bit dry and i wasn't a big fan of the potato mash pairing. the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfect and was very tender!

service wasgoodoverall but our waitress didn't seem to professional for this type of restaurant.

i had heardgoodthings about this restaurant but never tried it because i tend to be a little skeptical about fine dining restaurants. i eventually decided to go during the week of the big taste of calgary. the service wasgoodand the food was delicious. all in all what you would expect from a place this highly rated.

i've been waiting to try this place for a really long time and finally tried it today. the restaurant is beautiful on the inside, i love how it looks. i had the tagliatelle bolognese, which was good, but i unfortunately found it very salty. other than that, the duck and tiramisu were fantastic. it's definitely a place to go if you're looking for somewhere really fancy for a date night.goodexperience here.

wonderful choice for a special meal. elegant atmosphere.goodservice and great food. my scallop entree was a little piece of heaven. rob's beef was melt-in-your-mouth good, he said. the calamari and risotto are always can't-miss good. teatro is still one of our favourite places in town. prices a tad high, but agoodplace to splurge.

we visited this place about a year ago and had the tasting menu. first course was awful: it was some strange cold pea soup with eyeballs inside (encapsulated something-or-other). after that it gradually improved throughout the menu. we figured the chef must have got an encapsulator for christmas as around half the courses contained something encapsulated. the salted caramel ice cream at the end was by far the best ice cream we'd ever had, hands down! all in all it was agoodmeal but not really worth $400 for two people with drinks

food with high quality ingredients.
servers here are always pleasant and well trained.
i was happy with the 5 meal course dinner (big taste 2015).
when i came here for 8-course meal (but about 12 comes out).
first half did not taste very good.
i felt like they were testing these high end food on me to see if i like it or not.
the main courses that came after were reallygoodthough.
also the wine pairings were well done.
perfect place to celebrate a special night.
