teatro intro. we purchased the taste of calgary menu at teatro's which was a good way to be introduced to their food. a 7 course dinner. the ambiance is one of the best i've been in in calgary. it is upscale and the setting is a beatiful in an old bank so the columns, very high ceilings and dimmed lighting make it quite romantic. i also liked the choice of music. there seemed to be a lot of male waiters - more than necessary with at least 2 if not 3 "managers" waiting around. after each item we were served we were fitted with fresh cutlery which i thought was a bit over done and quite interupting. the food is prepared fresh and in an open kitchen. i do find it somewhat surprising that they classify themselves as italian - not really in my opinion although they do serve pasta. i had booked the reservations a solid week in advance and at the time of booking requested no pork (i don't eat pork) several hours prior to our meal i called and also requested no mushrooms for my partner. when we arrived they were un-prepared. first the waiter did not know until after presenting us with their regular menu that we were there for the taste. secondly, we waited extra long as fresh pasta without pork needed to be prepared for me. they seem to want to pull off being a very high end resturant so if they actually were - i would have expected them to know we were there for the taste and staff should have been notified of our preferences - which we gave plenty of notice for. it was expensive so save this restaurant as a "special night out" which we did (celebrating a very very big promotion) so it helped when we got the bill for over $250 which included 2 glasses of wine and 3 highballs. when we rated the meal - califlower soup, pickled beats, squid ink and/or mushroom tortallini, scallops (which was the first time i ate a scallop - i don't typically like sea food), strip loin steak with 3 peices of various vegetables, a very small sampling of beaufort cheese and a cake with carmel ice cream topped with black salt our top three were the beats, pasta and dessert. the servings were quite small but presented very nicely and once all 7 courses were devoured we were quite full and satisfied. we did notice that other patron plates were quite large in portion size and we were there for a "sampling." overall we would recommend teatro.

i love the food, the atmosphere and the service has always been great! this is one of the only upscale restaurant that i have been to where being a vegetarian doesn't mean requesting the chef to make a special meal for me. i love this restaurant, i just wish i could afford to eat there more often!

tough to beat teatro. teatro is a cut above most restaurants in calgary. excellent service, incredible flavors (the foie gras was amazing), cozy ambiance. the most surprising aspect of my dining experience was when i received the bill, very affordable.

another one of calgary’s conscious choice restaurants, teatro also attempts to source all their food from local operations. all in all, great service, soft ambiance, consistently-great food, and reasonable wine selection, make this place one of my faves.

no chef's menu saturday before v-day?. teatro's has always been one of my favorites. this visit was no different. the food was great and the service was outstanding. the rabbit and bacon ravioli was one of the best menu items i've ever had here before.

the one major downfall was on the saturday before valentine's day (typically the secondary date that most people celebrate valentines day) there was no choice of the "chef's tasting menu" due to a party at 10pm. i found this quite shocking as this is the only reason why we chose to go to teatro's on the saturday night before valentine's day. make sure you call ahead to confirm they are offereing chef's menu before booking. should have been notified ahead of time that was not an option.

teatro's has a major parking issue. there is none anywhere near. especially if there is a show playing in the near vicinity. paid $9.45 for parking by jack singer.

wonderful atmosphere, great food,. we've eaten at teatro 4 times in the last 2 years. they've always been good about letting us in without reservations.

the food is always good and often excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful - it is hands-down the best place in calgary for ambiance and unlike some other restaurants, you're not crammed in, sitting right next to some stranger. it feels spacious and this is helped by the very high ceilings.

our only complaint is the service. it's been adequate only, and the last time we were there it could only be called poor. what is poor? our arrogant male server barely checked our table. we were left waiting for 15, 20 minutes wanting water or coffee. compared to a few of the other restaurants in calgary, their service is sub-par. our server managed to make us feel quite unwelcome unfortunately.

we will return, and hopefully have somebody else wait on our table. the hostess was very polite, the bartender was good, but our actual waiter didn't deserve the hefty tip we left (i always tip because i know the server is only one person out of a large team of people).

great restaurant, but no parking.. my wife and i dined there one cold winter evening. there may have been an event around ther area as i could not find parking anywhere. i did not notice valet service either. food was good, service was ok, but for the price, i expect more. but, the ambiance makes up for the shortcomings!

why can't they all be like this!. when it comes to many restaurants in calgary you usually get one of the following: good service, good food or good ambience. teatro has all three! this was my third time eating there and i continue to be amazed at how much effort the staff puts in to make my dining experience a memorable one! oh and they have an amazing wine selection as well.

try the alberta bison tartar, grille polenta, gnocchi or pappardelle..they are all worth every bite!

food=awesome, server=sucks!. i and my boyfriend always want to give a try this place.
on my boyfriend's birthday, i took him here, and we were so happy.

we has cold octopus salad.
it was interesting, but i and my bf didn't love it.
for entree, i got duck dish, and my bf got rabbit ravioli.
both of they were sooooo great.

however, we were upset when we left there because we were abandoned from our server.
i believe our server looked down us because we are young.
most of time, he joked around with other tables where older people were sitting, and he explained about food.
but he literally threw plates on our table, and he walked away without saying anything.
everytime, whenever we wanted to ask something or order something, we had to try hard to get his attention...
the server was the worst one in my life...
i left 15% tips instead of 20%, but i even regret that i paid tips for him.
his name is really common name. i wish i can write down his name here.
i hope you guys get other server.

ok food, awful service. we had the unfortunate experience of suffering through the service of the same waiter that others here have complained about... what a piece of work he is! the food was ok (i had the beef carpaccio to start followed by the duck entree) but not anything i would rush back for.

because of the service we received, we won't be darkening their doorway again anytime soon. after reading a few other reviews, i'm a little relieved to see that it wasn't just us, yet disappointed that a restaurant like teatro with a seemingly good reputation would continue to employ someone who is so off-putting to their clientelle. it's rather disappointing.
