not impressed at all!!!!. taste 4/7/2012 @ 3:00pm

the restaurant is very empty: there are only three sets of guests in the restaurant.
the menus are oversized and laminated (seemed like a cheap attempt to be high class)
their beverage glasses are nice looking but on an diagonal. you almost want to keep checking to see if it's going to spill.

the waiter didn't introduce himself to us at all. however, he seemed obsessed with making sure our glasses were filled and making sure we were enjoying our food.

the roasted nachos appetizer had all the chicken on the bottom!! just a big plate of nachos, weird tasting sauce, tomatoes, lettuce on top of a bed of chicken swimming in this weird sauce.

our entrees came out piping hot which is a good thing. my seafood gumbo is over spiced, flavorless, ingredients seem bought from krogers or walmart. do not order this!!! the fried catfish was very good, succulent and juicy. seasoned very well. the mac and cheese was mediocre. the collardgreenshowever looked like a leafy oil spill!!! it tasted weird and grainy. the bourbon glazed sweet potatoes had no taste of bourbon, however they were good.

the waiters like to "play around" in front of the house. chilling at the bar. and the bartender likes to text on her cell constantly. well what else do you do when you're this slow?

they don't have a dessert menu, however, the waiter knew it by heart. he begins to run the desserts with a sense of regret saying, "we only have..."

i finally figured out the name our nameless server: jerontae.

all in all, if you are looking for a mediocre place to dine with a hit and miss menu, this would be the place to go.

good food with a few minor tweaks needed.. i decided to try lunch at taste and was very impressed with the food. the "chicken and waffles" was excellent and the "bourbon braisedgreensand bourbon sweet potatoes" also very tasty. the only complaints i had was re: confusion of menu items and what comes with them on the menu. the menu on both the taste website and menu in the resturant leads you to believe that all entrees come with 2 side dishes when actually some do not . the chicken and waffles and jambalya does not come with side dishes which should be clarified in writing. also the service was a bit slow and disorganized. the wait staff need to have a meeting re: soup of the day, how are items prepared and should be a bit more timely re: bringing the check and returning change. other issues are the fact they don't serve coffee or tea. i was told i could have hot water and sugar with lemon, not everyone wants an alcoholic beverage in the early afternoon,, especially not with chicken and waffles :-) we asked for containers to take the rest of our entree's with us and it was diffiicult to find them according to the waitter, the next table over from us got their to go boxes right away in the proper size and got bags to put them in. we were given two tiny containers to cram items in without bags and both of us dropped one of the containers on the way out, just because we didn't want to put thegreensin the same container with the waffles. they also could use a side salad as one of the side items and if the chicken and waffles don't come with a side then something should be provided such as fresh fruit cup in season on the side, the same size as the syrup container would be perfect, the jambalya should come with a small side salad . the meal overall was very enjoyable and i am definately planning a trip back soon.

taste. trotwood has a new restaurant - "taste" http://www.daytontaste... it is a refershing addition to trotwood's culinary options; which are none. we tried them for lunch. the caribbean crab chili was excellent; as was the barbeque shrimp. the crab cakes on microgreensw/ creole mayo sauce were some of the best we have had. very good house made bread. the service was frendly and efficient. there were a few minior faux pas - the microgreenswere actually just mixedgreensand the soup could have been hotter out of the kitchen. however, we will be back to explore the rest of the menu.
