poor customer service. i've been to taste several times and enjoyed myself. taste had been a great place to meet friends and to hear comedians and live jazz. i don't plan to returned after tonight! i along with three friends were waiting for another friend. we had cocktails, ordered food, in other words spending money and enjoying ourselves. we were listening to a band from cincinnati when we were asked to move because the table was reserved. what happened to reserved signs? why did the hostess sit us there? by the time we were asked to move, taste was crowded and the alternate sitting would have been right next to the band. i've never been asked to move...ever. rude treatment. poor customer service. we will not be returning.

food is good. service is terrible. service is always terrible. have to flag down the waitress for every need. she slams food/glasses on the table. she walks away quickly that you have to holler at her to get her attention instead of her asking if there's anything else that we need. when she delivered food and we said thank you, her reply was "yup". i couldn't wait to get tf outta there. not going back ever again!

the ambiance was great, service was ok, the food was highly disappointing! i'm from dc and came to visit and ordered the cajun chicken and shrimp pasta and buffalo wings. the food was disgusting! couldn't eat more than 1 bite. the pasta was over cooked and mushy and tasted like milk. the wings were bitter for some reason too.....do not eat here! returning it now!

disappointing after several tries. when this restaurant first opened, the service was terrible, but the food was decent. however, the menu has changed and the food is not good. very salty, sometimes cold, and not a lot of options. also, i think it's very tacky to have a wine glass sitting on the back do the bar that the bartender has to use for a guide when pouring a glass. they literally won't go a cm above the line. make a good drink, people will tip well and keep coming back! i want to support this local establishment, but they need some improvements. atmosphere is great though.

classy and relaxing. i stopped in during a trip to central state with our youth camp. i started with an appetizer of collard green egg rolls, and shrimp and grits. both were excellent, and my main course was a four piece fried chicken dinner with sweet potatoes and mac and cheese. dinner meal was solid, but the stars of the show were the opening courses. service was great and the live jazz band was outstanding. i will definitely return!!!

decent food, slow service. my husband and i have been to taste twice. the first time we went for dinner. it was the friday night before new year's in 2011 and extremely crowded. i was excited to see a local establishment so busy, especially in that part of town, so the wait to be seated did not bother me. however, after we got seated it took an hour for us to get our food after we had been seated. the food that we ordered was good, the drinks were good, and the music was good, so i just let it go and chalked it up to being a new restaurant and a busy night before the holiday weekend.

so recently, we went there for lunch. it was about 1:00 in the afternoon and mostly empty. there were only two other tables that were seated at the same time as us. unfortunately, the service wasn't any faster. in fact, service was slower. we didn't get anything complicated - i got a fettucine alfredo with broccoli. my husband got jerk chicken wings. got water for drinks. they were refilled once. ordered a piece of chocolate cake to go. server was nowhere to be found. we were sitting there with empty plates and no check for 20 minutes after we had finished eating. then when he finally came with the check, we gave him the money, and it was another 15 minutes before he returned with the receipt and the change. it was 2:40 by the time we finally left. we got there at 1. that's completely unacceptable.

fool me once, shame on me. fool me twice, you've lost my business.

love it! i always enjoy every visit there! i don't live in the city but every time i'm in town it's a must that a friend & i go. it's full of class and the food is fabulous! the live band gives it a relaxed yet upscale feel to it. never stuffy but very much welcoming. highly suggested in my opinion. i live in indianapolis & wish we had something similar :)

my wedding day. i was really impressed. the food,service and the atmosphere was awesome! i would have dinner there everyday if i could. it was so romantic for me and my husband we would recommend it to anyone. keep doing what you are doing. next time we will go on a night of music which my birthday is coming up on march 16th music night.

recommend highly. opinions are like noses, everybody's got one. been to the taste on two occasions for dinner in the past month. cannot speak to their lunches, but the dinners were fabulous. items are on the menu that cannot be found anywhere else, and we found everything to be excellent. not many patrons when we were there, and its too bad, as the taste has class, and in north dayton...how does that happen? i have seen other reviewers talk about poor service or poor food, and i cannot fathom how this was their experience. the waiter was classy and polite and service was not slow. asked to meet the chef just to let him know what a wonderful job he is doing, and he is one class act himself. we hope that the community will support this restaurant, and it will thrive. the prices are moderate, so it isn't a "cheap date", but we were served enough food to take some home for another dinner. if you want cheap, go to bob evan's, but if you want to try something out of the standard boring restaurant fare, then give the taste a try. in our opinion, it's worth it.

the restaurant is very empty: there are only three sets of guests in the restaurant.
the menus are oversized and laminated (seemed like a cheap attempt to be high class)
their beverage glasses are nice looking but on an diagonal. you almost want to keep checking to see if it's going to spill.

the waiter didn't introduce himself to us at all. however, he seemed obsessed with making sure our glasses were filled and making sure we were enjoying our food.

the roasted nachos appetizer had all the chicken on the bottom!! just a big plate of nachos, weird tasting sauce, tomatoes, lettuce on top of a bed of chicken swimming in this weird sauce.

our entrees came out piping hot which is a good thing. my seafood gumbo is over spiced, flavorless, ingredients seem bought from krogers or walmart. do not order this!!! the fried catfish was very good, succulent and juicy. seasoned very well. the mac and cheese was mediocre. the collard greens however looked like a leafy oil spill!!! it tasted weird and grainy. the bourbon glazed sweet potatoes had no taste of bourbon, however they were good.

the waiter didn't know the ingredients of the dish.

the waiters like to "play around" in front of the house. chilling at the bar. and the bartender likes to text on her cell constantly. well what else do you do when you're this slow?

they don't have a dessert menu, however, the waiter knew it by heart. he begins to run the desserts with a sense of regret saying, "we only have..."

i finally figured out the name our nameless server: jerontae.

all in all, if you are looking for a mediocre place to dine with a hit and miss menu, this would be the place to go.

poor. hours are extremely inconsistent,...service is very slow. what ever you dont go there on a one hour lunch break. i took my employees & was embarrassed.

i have visited. i have been to the taste several times,..mostly when it first opened. i quit going when the hours became inconsistent. i kept driving by for lunch and dinner and the place was closed every time. i finally quit driving by,..as did most of my acquaintances. we were appalled at the inconsistency.

excellent. i went there on a first date and we had a ball. the food was delicious, the live bands and entertainers were top notch we didn't want them to stop and the atmosphere was perfect...good environment,,,love the setting makes everyone who comes in seem connected in some sort of fun way...going again next weekend with the girls...

very pleased - elegant and sophisticated. very thankful for this restaurant. first off, the bartender, kevin... wow, what a warm, enduring charming man! he was a great first experience of the restaurant. everyone was pleasant and professional and looked stunning.

they are in chef transition, so you need to be flexible in understanding that all menu items are not available as they make the transition. having said that, there were 6 of us and everyone was pleased with their food. 5 of us very very pleased and one just pleased.

the live jazz that started at 8 was really a great touch and the volume was perfect to give mood and yet not eclipse conversation. great date venue.

if you aren't on the north or west side of town, i highly encourage you to make the drive. i know i will be headed back to see what great dishes they keep and what the new chef has to wow us with.

crab crayfish artichoke and spinach dip came with some amazing and rather unique bread, all who sampled were a tad jealous of the owner of the dish... the angel hair marsala was a rave hit, i had jerk chicken eggrolls and a fabulous chicken pizza and the tilapia was reported to be excellent as well.

tropical cheesecake was divine and the chocolate mousse was one of the prettiest desserts i have seen in a long time and we almost felt like we needed to leave the owner alone with it, she was in heaven.

it wasn't crowded until about 8 pm, but then things really picked up.

looking for elegance, jazz and good food, then head to taste... they have a great thing going and i wish them many years of success.
