taste gallery is a good restaurant to share your meals. they have a good range of meals. the dumplings are tasty as are the main meals.
it is not as crowded as the other restaurants in market square. this could be because it is slightly more expensive. our average cost per person is approximately $25.
service can be a little hit and miss. worth trying if you have a larger group and wish to share meals.

that’s right, the dumpling craze has spread from myself to my wonderful colleagues! moahahahaa. anyway, this fateful friday we headed down the highway to sunnybank to try out taste gallery. the dumplings were great, particularly the xiao long bao. really juicy and the wrapper wasn’t too thick. we had the fluffy pan fried pork buns, pan fried beef dumplings (interesting they don’t do pork?) and the wonton in spicy sauce.

food was bad, service was worst. we had a booking and turned up on time to no tables. made to wait for another twenty minutes before we were sat down at a table which was not cleaned. waited for another twenty minutes to have our orders taken (we tried flagging the wait staff and was told to hold on, hold on). food took a while (i may have misjudged the length of time the food took to come because at that time we had already waited for more than 40 minutes). never going back again.

its the only place chinese place that the food is consistently good. best fresh yumcha. live their fresh steamed pork buns. hands down great honey chicken i normally hate honey chicken its either too much batter or soggy. theirs is so crunchy. their combination satay is good abither typical dish i dislike but this place does it right.

another place to have an asian breakfast at sunnybank market square.

the restaurant offers congee buffet, pay for a bowl and you get to eat as much congee as you want. this includes the stick fried cake, sauces, as well as coriander leaves, cut dried seaweed, and tiny dried shrimps.

i came here and tried the chicken congee, and also the lamb congee. the congee has some shredded meat inside of it. sometimes the meat also accompanied with egg. both were tasty, but for the more delicious combination, i recommend you to get the tiny dried shrimps and a bit of soy sauce.

also ordered the pan fried pork bun. it has soup and minced meat inside but crispy on the outside.

the soybean milk was hot and taste too bland for me.

will come back here again to taste delicious congee and pork bun.

have been before can be inconsistent with service sometimes good sometimes food does not all come out at once must depend on how busy they are. the food is okay depending on what you order. not sure if we will return.

booked for a table for 9 + 2 babies in prams and they had the space for us! we ordered the banquet for 8, one of the guests cancelled, and there was enough for everyone to feel overfull. we were pleasantly surprised when the yummy food arrived quickly despite it being a huge order. very important to book for a table because the place gets busy. the only down side but i suppose a quintessential aspect of a chinese restaurant that it was hard to talk to the waitstaff because of language barriers. will come again though.

after my somewhat less than satisfying meal at ithai i continued hunting in market square for better sustenance, and dumplings were in my sight.
the 'crystal prawn' dumplings were very good, nice thin skin, nice firm dumpling filled with prawn meat.
unfortunately, the first teochew dumpling that i bit into was a bit frozen on the inside. to her credit, the waitress offered me a replacement when i pointed this out.
the second round of the teochew dumplings was hot as it should be and tasted alright. this is probably more due to my taste preference, than the quality of the dumplings.
i finally ordered the peking duck rolls to end my meal. they were rather thin and unsatisfying with the hoisin sauce a bit too sweet.
overall, not too bad, but not great.

visited taste gallery for dinner this evening, and after reading some of the reviews i really wasn't expecting much but decided to go in with an open mind. i was very pleasantly surprised!!

i started with steamed pork buns and combination dumplings for entree. they were both delicious. the pork buns were fresh and juicy however weren't big with flavour. however in contrast the combination dumplings were just delicious. juicy, fresh and full of flavour.

for mains, sizzling schezcuan chicken (excuse spelling) and sizzling beef with pepper sauce both were delicious and fresh. the portion sizes were generous also.

the service was very good and the staff very polite and helpful.

all in all a great experience, great food at reasonable prices. will be back again.

shanghai dumplings (xiao long bao) are the cornerstone of taste gallery's existence, thus it was only natural that i would start my meal with this dish and then progress to the pan fried shanghainese pork dumplings. i then chose the stewed pork belly with quail eggs in sweet bean sauce to complete the experience.

the xiao long bao were thin and delicate - no chopsticks here. they bursting with soup, but they were also very bland. in this day they rate a 3.5.

the pan fried pork dumplings looked impressive, but the dumplings were really thick and chewy. these rate a 3.

the stewed pork belly with quail eggs looked impressive and had good flavour. the amount of pork belly, the number of quail eggs and the volume of bok choy was impressive. unfortunately the pork belly was riddled with bones. i forgave the first few bones, but virtually every bite was interrupted. the quail eggs were also overcooked and a bit rubbery. the dish was a 2.5-3.

good service, but they ignored my request to hold the spring onions on the pork belly.

overall, on this day i'd have to give them a 3.

customer service is shocking!!!!
girl at the counter was so rude!
asked for fresh pork buns and she points to buns that have been out all day and goes these are fresh ones!! we said no like can you make em now. she goes yeaaaa no they are fresh. we said oh ok well how fresh? she goes oh from early this morning, keep in mind it is 6.30pm, she then continues to say they are fresh trust me. we're like are you kidding? lol. we said no please we would like fresh. then she started with the attitude and raising her voice and pressing her screen really hard. then when the buns were made she basically threw them at us over the counter. it was disgusting! never everrr coming here again. ever! ever!

they specialize in shanghai style dim sims (eg xiao long bao, dumplings) and they also do some traditional chinese dishes . i think they do okay but slightly below average in every aspect (taste, portion, service, value for money) .

lea. come clean. anyone who has eaten here would know that there is an alterior motive behind you review. we eat at this restaurant 3-4 times per week. need i say more. anyone seeking good food at realistic price ignore this review and do yourself a favour. try for yourself and you will see who is telling the truth
a bit disappointing. we were asked to leave (21/01/17) because they were busy and we didnt spend enough. funny, our money is good enough on other days
