taggart's grill

ridiculous policy, poor customer service. my wife and i received a gift card to taggart's grill for christmas (2013), and although we had never eaten there, everyone we know said it was a great place for a juicy steak. the only problem is we live 45 minutes away, and our work and family life rarely takes us near morgan.

until tonight (1/29/14).

the food gods placed us within 15 minutes of the joint, and the timing couldn't have been better. just a week before i'd had my tonsils removed, so my raging meatlust was at fever pitch at the prospect of *real* solid food.

so we looked up the menu, found what we wanted, and called for takeout; since i was still bedridden and generally reacting to the pain like a teething infant, takeout was our only option.

my wife called, placed our order, and just before hanging up she notified the taggartses that we would be using a (taggart's grill) gift card for payment.

at that point, the evil taggart's staff member told us that they don't accept gift cards as payment for takeout. no exceptions. no discussion. take it or leave it. "it's restaurant policy."

apparently, taggart's grill is okay with taking my family members' money (for the gift card), but they'd prefer not to provide a service in return. they're also okay with losing my business and word-of-mouth advertising, before i ever got the chance to try their grub.

you have been warned.

bad reviews are biased. okay folks, let's get real for a minute. morgan is a place where people are either "in" or "out". being the nearest city, that's where a lot of the labor comes from. and while not all the reviews here are bogus, i think the vast majority, esp, the ones that are talking about the bad staff, are from former employees. probably ones that didn't have a fantastic run there. as far as the owners go, there's one who i wouldn't go to for grief counseling. the rest are great.

and the food? how could a place literally in the middle of nowhere stay open? the food is fan. tas tic. if heaven doesn't have taggart's desserts, i'm not interested in going there. i have never had a bad experience there, even with the man eating peacocks that supposedly will do you in. if it's busy, it's just like anywhere else that's busy, and places that such aren't busy. taggarts is the place to go.

this place is amazing. the owner's, tuttle's, can be rude from time to time, but the food is worth the hassle. i love the burgers, the chicken enchilada, ham and apple wrap, cobb sandwich, halibut augratin. it's all so good. the carrot cake is to die for. and the retro cookies are yummy.

as long as i have lived here i didn't know that this place existed. it is a nice clean place, the little bakery front has a lot of good looking desserts. plan to try as many of them as i can. the meal was good, many fresh ingredients are used. this is going to be on my "return to" list.

loved it. my soon to be daughter in law asked to go here for her birthday. my husband, son, and i had never been, although we have passed it many times on the way to ogden. this was the first time i have ever seen my husband not only eat but love a chicken enchilada. i thought he was going to lick the plate! the kids both had the taggart burger, my son gladly helped his honey finish so they could shard a chocolate cheese cake for dessert (her 3/4 him 1/4). i had no room to talk cuz i was dieing to try the lemon poppy seed cheese cake, so i took over half of my main coarse home. i loved it so much i have been dropping hints everywhere that i would love another one for my bday later this month. the wait staff were very friendly. the atmosphere was romantic but still gave the feeling you could bring your family. i really couldn't complain about our bill after ordering bread, meals, drinks, and dessert it was less than $80 for the four of us.

disappointing sunday brunch. last sunday i took the family out for brunch. taggart has always been a great place for lunch or dinner so i knew we weren’t taking any chances on a good meal. we have been frequenting taggart from the time they first opened.
last sunday was the most disappointing meal we have ever had. i splurged on the steak and eggs. this was the worst piece of meat i have ever tasted. could not finish it, took the rest home for the dogs. best part of the breakfast was the eggs. another member of our party had the eggs benedict, he was unable to eat the ham due to odd flavor and concerned with its quality. i mentioned the problem to the waitress expecting the chef to respond to us be nothing happened we were just told the chef apologizes. i watched another couple across from us who returned both their meal for some reason. i regret this visit to the taggart; i am very disappointed in the food and the response to my concern about serving unhealthy food.

great restaurant. taggart grill is a fun little restaurant located away from civilization. they are into the canyon a ways, but definitely worth the drive. have experienced some of the problems mentioned before, but overall i have been pleased. i heard they are going to do a promotion on http://www.healingdeals.net soon!

wort host ever. my wife and i were on our way to park city to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and decided to stop at taggart's grill for dinner. our initial wait was 30 minutes. as our waiting time drew to an end my wife decided to walk up to the front and ask the host what our status was. the host rudely replied "2 hours, so sit down and shut up." thanks for the warm welcoming. my first year anniversary was spent wiping the tears off my wife's face thanks to that jerk.

don't. regular for years, and food's been ok. recently took a medium-sized party (8) for a niece's b-day. called ahead, just to be sure, but they got the number in the party wrong so we had to wait a while for the table to be ready. as we waited, a fellow on the way out said, "food's ok, but they're out of everything." should have listened. service was slow and irregular, soups and appetizers arrived cold. drinks were less than carbonated. baby spinach and salmon salad had little salmon and almost no spinach. when asked about it, we were told that it comes that way because it was a "mixed green" salad. check the menu for yourself - no mention of iceberg in the description. tried to be pleasant about it, but no improvement or even apology. one of our party asked to speak to the manager (owner, i assume) but he seemed particularly uninterested and walked off without acknowledging a problem. after his visit, the waitresses began to avoid our table. tab was just under $100, but they must not need that kind of business. based on our experience, we won't be back. it's a shame, but i suggest you give this one a miss.

not to good. i decided to make the trip from salt lake city to try this burger. the place is very nice and clean. i ordered 2 burgers, the taggart and the bacon cheese burger. i asked for the taggart well done and the bacon cheeseburger medium. they both came out overcooked and dry. the service was fair to say the least. they had plenty of servers but i had to ask to have my drink refilled twice. being not very busy i would have expected the burgers to come out rather quickly. after 23 minutes i got my burgers. as i stated above not cooked to order. i will say the bun was great along with the fries. the fry sauce had a hint of horseradish which made the taste so unique. the burger was just another overcooked burger that had flavor based on the sauce that was drizzled on it. make the drive for the fries and bun, not the burger.

innovative comfort food at its finest. i love the fact that this family-owned restaurant is completely out of the way, and yet is always full of people who are willing to make the drive to enjoy what taggart's has to offer. we went on a saturday evening, and they were expectedly slammed. steve (the owner) was busy working the front of the house and greeting and seating guests.

our server seemed a little frazzled, as if she had a few too many tables to handle. when our food arrived, she realized that she forgot to place my meal in the computer. while the kitchen rushed to make me a plate, i looked on as the rest of the party enjoyed their meals.

but the wait was well worth it. i had the chicken enchilada, which was seasoned perfectly (albeit the chicken was a bit dry). the white sauce on the enchilada was lovely, and the meal was fantastic. our server made up for forgetting my meal by comping me a dessert, which was appreciated. definitely check out their dessert selection (it's hard to miss--they strategically place their display case prominently in the waiting area :)

worth the drive. check it out.

a restaurant? here?. i have this great idea: take an old gas station and bait shop hidden away up a canyon 25 minutes from the closest city and turn it into a fine dining establishment. put some vegetarian entrees on the menu ('cause those morgan county dairy farmers love their garden burgers and veggie pizzas), add some signature dishes such as taggart's salmon, tenderloin steak, or halibut au gratin, then wait for the crowds to show up.

nah, it would never work.

right. i eat here 10-12 times a year and i would drive twice as far for their spinach enchiladas alone. don't even get me started on their desserts. whether it's a friday night dinner date or a sunday brunch, the quality and service at taggart's is superb, the location breathtaking, and the price is reasonable.
