excellent sushi. we are regulars and this is the bestsushispot in town and one of the best we've ever tried.

william and heidi are the owners and very nice. it's kind of hard to find in the shopping center, but once you get there, you won't be dissapointed.

great sushi. my wife and i visited here looking forsushiafter moving to abq. we visited at 2 pm, and were understandably the only customers there. we received excellent service, our glasses were always filled, and our orders arrived promptly, but we also never felt like we were hovered over. we ordered shrimp tempura, salmon asparagus tempura, and tuna rolls. all were outstanding in appearance and flavor, it was quite obvious the ingredients were very fresh. we were also very impressed with the appearance of the restaurant, it had the traditional feel of a well kept oriental place, with slightly dimmed lighting creating a nice quiet feel.

we have since tried anothersushiplace, which had similar qualitysushiand a large variety of specialty rolls, but at higher prices. if you want good, fresh, traditional sushi, at good prices, give sushiya a try.

great. the bestsushii've had in albuquerque out of the places i've been (10 or so). there is a lot of variety in the rolls and they are all excellent. the atmosphere is very nice and the service is friendly and competent.. compares favorably to sakurasushithai & laoation cuisine (which i would call a close second).

big mistake. i've been to sushiya twice. the first time was for the almond chicken. i'm a big fan of leftovers and i didn't take leftovers home that night. however, i tried sushiya again with the benefit of the doubt given thatsushiwas just their forte. i was also persuaded by all the positive reviews.

big mistake. it was the worstsushii've had in my entire life and i've been eatingsushifor a decade.

i ordered a simple salmon roll and a shrimp tempura roll. the salmon was clearly not fresh. it was so dry and wrong-tasting, it might have been frozen salmon. the tempura tasted so strange, like powdered sugar. it was chewy instead of crunchy and left a disgusting aftertaste. even thesushirice tasted off...

i ordered mysushito-go and the one positive here is when i walked into the restaurant, mysushiwas ready within two minutes. very quick service. honestly, i hate to leave such a bad review but i feel disrespected that i was served such a glaringly low-quality meal. apparently, the former owner, william, recently sold the place and it's gone downhill from there.

missing william. this place used to be superb. the former owner sold it, and is no longer involved. and it shows. thesushichef we had was friendly, but not very professional at all. the presentation was not near as beautiful as we're used to here. all of this could be forgiven if the quality was still the same. sadly, it wasn't. everything we ordered was smothered in sauce, to the point that we couldn't taste the fish. i got some tuna sashimi, and i immediately tasted why all the sauces were on everything else. the fish tasted old, and smelled off. needless to say, we will be looking for a newsushiplace. dies anyone know where chef william has gone?

always excellent - some of the bestsushiin the duke city. sushiya is a gem that i now place among new mexico's finest restaurants. the menu blends a variety of tastes and the atmosphere and service are both top notch.

however, chef william's impeccablesushiis the best part of all. i have been to sushiya forsushia couple times a month for the past year and have never left disappointed. i usually don't trust a whole lot of places to make excellent nigirisushi(simply vinegared rice with raw seafood and a seaweed wrapper), but at sushiya i actually recommend it over american-style rolls. that's not to say that the rolls won't be extremely satisfying (i recommend the dragon or rainbow roll if you want to get one of those), but the seafood selection and masterful preparation of thesushilend themselves to the purity of nigiri or sashimi. the slabs of fish are fresh, juicy (but not soggy), and delicious. the rice is spongy and has just the right amount of tart. william preparessushias a master and albuquerque is better off for it.

but i won't go back again. thesushirolls and the general tso's were both fresh and delicious, but the price you pay for the amount of food you receive makes it undesirable. if we go to sakura on wyoming we getsushithat is just as good, but the rolls are three times as big and our check is $10 - $15 less.
i'm glad that i tried it once and i'll recommend it to others, but with the aforementioned warning.

best in albuquerque. service: excellent. staff is very friendly, and recognizes when you are a returning customer. have never had bad service there.
food: amazing. sushimi is always fresh with generous, beautiful cuts of fish. rolls are creative and fun. no california rolls for us (who wastes stomach space on ca rolls anyways) love the hard rock, sister loves the tnt. be daring and try the chef's roll, have never been disappointed and look forward to what will surprises us with. highly recommend monkey balls (tried because the chef sent them out on the house) and calamari .
sake, beer and wine, with some decent choices.
overall, fresh, fresh sushi. the only place i go to eatsushiand believe me i have tried 90% of allsushiplaces in albuquerque.

yum! thesushiis outstanding. the quality of the fish is definitely above par. we also ordered the monkey balls appetizer and it was fantastic! the servers are extremely nice but seem to be a bit spaced out. we had to remind him about our appetizer and the service was courteous but slow. it's a great place and we'll definitely be going back though.

father's day sushi. eating out on father's day is always a little tough. my first choice is always sushi. it just makes me happy. raw fish and a sapporo beer. unfortunately it seems that mostsushirestaurants in albuquerque are closed on sunday, so we tend to grope for the ones that are open for the sunday holidays like mother's and father's day.. this year we tried sushiya for the first time.

on arrival, i was disappointed to learn that sushiya doesn't currently have a beer and wine license. it is in the works. their green tea is very tasty but i did miss my beer. also, on a hot albuquerque day a portable swamp cooler on one side of the room didn't really do the job.

that aside, the service was just right. there was a fair crowd, but everything seemed to arrive with no unreasonable delays. the green tea really was delicious with just a hint of sesame perhaps. the squid salad was very good. one of the best in town. hot & sour soup was neither too spicy hot nor too vinegary. well balanced. the egg drop soup was dense with egg.

my son had a pork dish with xo sauce. he came to like xo when in hong kong and liked this version. the sample i had was a bit too heavy on star anise for my taste.

my wife had shrimp with candied pecans. this is a dish described on the on-line menu as having prawns with veggies and pecans in a mango sauce. her dish had sliced oranges, but no veg (which it really could have used). without vegetables this generously sized dish just becomes too sweet for one person to consume.

i had the chirashi. the 14 pieces of sashimi were fresh and delicious. the last time i had chirashi was at samurai. the price is the same at both places. there might be a few more pieces in samurai's version, which may be because it had some sweet omelet (tamago). i give the honors to samurai only because it came in a larger bowl. sushiya's presentation was in a bowl about the size of a paperback book. it was beautiful, but was packed so densely that the eating was more difficult than it should be.

the meal came out to just under $20 per person before tip.
