worth trying thats for sure. i really like sushiya; i know this is one of my little brother's favorite spots to eat which is adorable because he is ten. the atmosphere is quaint and comforting and gives life to this little strip mall. so i love their bento box lunches that are really affordable actually, so when i saw the bento box sashimi lunch i had to try it. the sashimi actually were pretty big chucks of the usual tunas, and salmon, accompanied by seaweed salad, vegetable and shrimp tempura, rice, and a few pieces of a california roll. i thought mine was more than a generous portion andfreshmy grandmothers salmon sashimi did taste a little funny but besides that this bento box was a real treat for lunch. the wait staff was attentive maybe too attentive. the waiter did stay over his welcome talking about his childhood and family which didn't seem like a conversation well suited for a casual lunch where he is the waiter and you're the patron. nice place with some nice food definitely worth trying or making it a frequent spot for some lunch or dinner.

unexpectedly tasty. went here for a switch up from our normal place that is getting old. surprised by thefreshtaste of their sushi, not heavy with cream cheese and a ton of sauces etc. prices were good and i didn't feel bloated and tired when i left. everything was delicious, will be returning soon!

but i won't go back again. the sushi rolls and the general tso's were bothfreshand delicious, but the price you pay for the amount of food you receive makes it undesirable. if we go to sakura on wyoming we get sushi that is just as good, but the rolls are three times as big and our check is $10 - $15 less.
i'm glad that i tried it once and i'll recommend it to others, but with the aforementioned warning.

fresh, subtle taste. the food was made withfreshingredients, and with their own subtle touches that made it taste a little different than usual and very delicious. i highly recommend the bento boxes for lunch.

best in albuquerque. service: excellent. staff is very friendly, and recognizes when you are a returning customer. have never had bad service there.
food: amazing. sushimi is alwaysfreshwith generous, beautiful cuts of fish. rolls are creative and fun. no california rolls for us (who wastes stomach space on ca rolls anyways) love the hard rock, sister loves the tnt. be daring and try the chef's roll, have never been disappointed and look forward to what will surprises us with. highly recommend monkey balls (tried because the chef sent them out on the house) and calamari .
sake, beer and wine, with some decent choices.
overall, fresh, freshsushi. the only place i go to eat sushi and believe me i have tried 90% of all sushi places in albuquerque.

father's day sushi. eating out on father's day is always a little tough. my first choice is always sushi. it just makes me happy. raw fish and a sapporo beer. unfortunately it seems that most sushi restaurants in albuquerque are closed on sunday, so we tend to grope for the ones that are open for the sunday holidays like mother's and father's day.. this year we tried sushiya for the first time.

on arrival, i was disappointed to learn that sushiya doesn't currently have a beer and wine license. it is in the works. their green tea is very tasty but i did miss my beer. also, on a hot albuquerque day a portable swamp cooler on one side of the room didn't really do the job.

that aside, the service was just right. there was a fair crowd, but everything seemed to arrive with no unreasonable delays. the green tea really was delicious with just a hint of sesame perhaps. the squid salad was very good. one of the best in town. hot & sour soup was neither too spicy hot nor too vinegary. well balanced. the egg drop soup was dense with egg.

my son had a pork dish with xo sauce. he came to like xo when in hong kong and liked this version. the sample i had was a bit too heavy on star anise for my taste.

my wife had shrimp with candied pecans. this is a dish described on the on-line menu as having prawns with veggies and pecans in a mango sauce. her dish had sliced oranges, but no veg (which it really could have used). without vegetables this generously sized dish just becomes too sweet for one person to consume.

i had the chirashi. the 14 pieces of sashimi werefreshand delicious. the last time i had chirashi was at samurai. the price is the same at both places. there might be a few more pieces in samurai's version, which may be because it had some sweet omelet (tamago). i give the honors to samurai only because it came in a larger bowl. sushiya's presentation was in a bowl about the size of a paperback book. it was beautiful, but was packed so densely that the eating was more difficult than it should be.

the meal came out to just under $20 per person before tip.

short and sweet. all that i can say is everything i have ever ordered has been beyond epic. i called in for the first time on nothing but a whim! if you do decide to order fom sushiya try the "sushiya" it is just what chef wants to do at that moment and every time it shows up at my door it has been, again, epic! also try the squid salad, if you are a fan of superblyfreshand delicious seafood. i tried it for the first time and it was epicly delicious. i will enjoy all that they have to offer over and over again!

yum yum -best sushi in abq ive found!. i am a big time sushi lover, and since moving to abq a year ago, i had given up on trying to eat quality sushi, just assuming it doesn't exist here.
tried many places, including azuma, pacific rim, all edible but not quality sushi. nodas , till today was the number one spot in my opinion forfreshfish, but too far away for me.

this place, though unassuming in a albertsons shopping strip, is rather cute inside .
but the sushi is amazing ! veryfreshfish and quality rice, great presentation. ( we got energy roll, buddha belly and geisha , philly roll was fantastic ) service was very good too. this will be my new spot. good sake list!
not many people in the restaurant on a sat night, go eat there and give it a try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

awesome!. i have been trying for years, rather unsuccessfully, to find "my" sushi place. i finally found it in sushiya. since my husband and i discovered this place about 5 months ago, we haven't been anywhere else for sushi, or any asian food, for that matter.
chef william does an amazing job. everything is superfreshand tastes it. let him go crazy on the sushiya roll and you won't be disappointed. the buddha belly roll is to die for, and the energy roll is a nice take on a tempura tuna roll. for the purists, there is a great selection of nagiri and sashimi. if you have a non-fish eater in your group, everything from their kitchen is just as good as their sushi.
i would highly suggest sushiya to anyone who wants a new, awesome sushi experience in albuquerque. no matter what you get, make sure to get the hot and sour soup. it is killer. also, the house sauvignon blanc goes well with all the rolls and other fish dishes. highly recommended.
